Just did read in a norwegian newspage that WoW have banned over 18 000 accounts more or less 200 accounts a day....

Righto.
WoW has 5 million subscribers.
200 / 5,000,000 = 0.00004
0.00004 * 100,000 EvE subscribers = 4 accounts.
So CCP need to banning 4 accounts a day to keep up.
Not so impressive anymore, eh? |

Yes, that's probably the same amount relative to total accounts as CCP bans per day on average, why ?
Blizzard has somewhat more cash to spend on it. And I can assure you that as soon as they see a way to stop spending all that money on GM's without it resulting in half their playerbase running away in disgust they will do so. _______________________________________________

WoW can afford to ban so many accounts because it has many more subscribers - CCP can't.
Eve only has 80k accounts and I'd hazard a guess that a sizeable amount of those 80k belong to macroers. Banning macroers in large numbers costs CCP revenue. Don't keep kidding yourself that CCP has the players bests interests at heart. If they wanted to get rid of macroers, they could. They wrote the damn game and all its code, don't you think they could come up with a way to get rid of (if not severly impact) macroers?

There are far fewer macroers than players, but at the same time those macroers cause far greater server load and cost CCP much more due to the fact that they're on 23/7. I would not be surprised if they actually costed CCP money once you added it all up. I'd also not be surprised if there were below 1000 total farmers/macroers.
If CCP could ban them automagically, they would
CCP did not start EVE for the purpose of making millions of dollars. They started EVE for the purpose of creating a game with an ideal. If they wanted to make loads of money, they would have made a more mainstream game like World of Warcraft, not a niche game like EVE. - Proud member of the [23].

Eve is a macroers paradise.
Its got to be the easiest game ever to macro in.
Heck, mining in itself is virtually an afk activity - especially Ice mining. Macorers are even protected by the mechanics of NPC corps and no spawns to worry about in high-sec systems.
Why, after all this time and after hundreds upon hundreds of posts and petitions is the macro-menace still on the increase?

So?
That's blizzard, not CCP.
Two completely different companies with two completely different market strategies, revenue dependencies and company policies.

well blizzard is banning random people, several of my friends accounts has been banned for no reason at all. they then had to petition to reopen their accounts and the response was basicly "yea, sorry about that, unbanned it now" two weeks later...

Blizzard doesn't ban people for farming.
This will get you banned in WoW:
1. Racial comments (instant ban. Don't even mess with this. Even being reported for this-- whether or not it's actually true will get you suspended) 2. 3-rd party program botting (AFK leveling, etc) 3. Haxoring (speed, warp hax, etc.)

They ARE reported! Thats the whole point! Nothing seems to be done. The same old characters, mining away 23/7 MONTHS after being petitioned!
Hence, the underlying point is either;
1) CCP are grossly understaffed and cannot cope with the sheer number of petitions, or
2) CCP chose to ignore the vast majority of macro petitions because banning them all would put a severe dent in their monthly income.
We got ONE post from a GM in the summer stating a whopping 80 macroers had been banned! WOW! a massive 80... six months ago - and not another word since.
At this rate Eve will be macro free in no time

CCP's inaction is intolerable. I'm so frustrated with this game at this point. I will never get ahead by playing by the rules. The macrominers just busted the market for glacial mass in Metropolis... and they're still there in Elgoi, nonstop.
I hope that the only players CCP ends up with are the macroes. They'll have 2000 individuals running 20,000 characters simultaneously, and CCP will probably be HAPPY.
"Congratulations to us, we had 30,000 players on at once last night...." Bull! You had 1/3 of that legitimately.

I reported like 30 of them in a petition the week before christmas. they said they were escalating it to a senior GM and there were no further replies even though I added another 30 or so since then.
the ming1-ming23 group was a hot topic on the forum a couple months ago, but they're still macroing.
why bother petitioning if nothing ever happens?

but they ARE macroing.
find a farmer group, notice how they mine continuously with no gaps due to cargo filling and lasers turning off.
then bump them off the belt or pop their can, notice how they sit there doing nothing for up to 20 minutes before the macro operator looks at that client and moves his miners back to the belt or makes a new can.

This is CCP's game. They own all rights, all accounts, characters, and items within it. We, as players, have no rights to anything at all. If CCP wanted to ban an account, they don't owe any one of us an explanation as to why its being banned. This is in their own R&R.
The fact that people are farming and not afk macroing shouldn't make any difference to the ethics of it. We all know (including CCP) where that farmed ore/isk ends up.

Do you guys just call anyone who has multiple accounts a macro miner? If they are at the keyboard and responding to people who talk to them then there is not much a GM can do. It sounds like it is next to impossible to find out if the person is putting the money on E-Bay or other isk-selling places.

LOL. I agree... well on the first bit anyway.
I think CCP should give us weekly updates as to how many have been banned. They had a big news release and fanfare about it many months ago when those initial 80 got the bullet so its not exactly against their policy to keep us informed.
The fact that theres zero news on this despite the many many posts and petitions does lend credence to those that think CCP are now putting $ signs ahead of the concerns of the legitimate playerbase.

nice, didnt know that :p

Don;t kid yourself, not banning botters costs CCP revenue also. As players get fed up with every asteroid field being empty, fed up trying to climb the hill on inflation to buy basic t2 items etc... and over all sick of cheaters in the game period.
They destroyed lineage2, there destroying eq2.... They will destroy Eve also... you see they are never content they do the msot effective way to make money.... Wait till they are skilled up enough and start clearing out the best complexes and farming them to the second...... Right now it is macro mining because it is easy but soon they will want to control the rare market to drive up thge rpice which in turn imposes the need for ISK which in turn leads people to buy the ISK from them off ebay or thier website...
This is big buisness for them don;t be naive and think it is some pimped faced kid in china making a little extra dough, these pro farmers run extensive buisness models and are very agressive they do NOT care about games just money they can make through the games.

well tbh I am sure there's a differene :p
and I misspell there constantly, always typing tehre(guess that has something to do with coordination :p) ah well
also, langauge changes over time, nothing you can do about it really. take *** for example, about 60 years ago you could say "I'm happy and ***" and people would think you were very happy. now if you say it people wil think your homosexual(and probably risk getting bashed as well depending on where you say it :p)
edit: funny, g a y gets blocked out, but homosexual makes it past censoring check :D and to the moderators, I appologize about having to move past the censoring, but my point would probably not come trough otherwise ;)

True, the system is easy to abuse, however put the should-be-implemented macrominer reportsystem should only react if enough people report. hence a minor group of muppets can't abuse it.
AND if they report more than say 10 people a day, they get hunted by concord instead. Rather easy

I'm no programmer, but surely there its only a matter of coding to detect tihrid party macroing programs running in the background.
As far as multiple accounts, well I think the whole idea is stupid as hell, and only a total loser would pay for multiple accounts, but EVE kind of encourages this behavior in its more hardcore users by making alts fairly pointless. Anyway, CCP wins because they get more sub money. I'd wager there are only around 7,000 users online when it says there are 19k. EVE wouldn't survive if the uber-nerds weren't so addicted to friggin video game that would for more than one account and spend real $ for ISK, jsut to get an edge on other players in a non-existant world.

CCP just gave all players a nice new toy (module) to mess with macro miners. The Tractor Beam - simply tractor the ore can out of reach of the miners while the tugging operator is away - no place to put the ore - they stop mining. Just go through the rings of a system tractoring the cans away and soon enough the operator will think something is wrong with the macro, or get the hint that it is just not working and quit.
Oh and of course put in a petition (system name, time, macro miners names) I have sent in many of these, it seems to work, but only until the next one starts up. It is getting rather disgusting to find all of the high security systems with rings of Veld and nothing else. Even the macro miners are pickey mining now. When was the last time you saw a ring that had plag or pyro over 400 let alone any omber or kern in a .6 or above?
