Just did read in a norwegian newspage that WoW have banned over 18 000 accounts more or less 200 accounts a day....
CCP ... take notice !! ---------------------------------------------- "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child: now that I am become a man, I have put away childish things." 1 cor. |

Righto.
WoW has 5 million subscribers.
200 / 5,000,000 = 0.00004
0.00004 * 100,000 EvE subscribers = 4 accounts.
So CCP need to banning 4 accounts a day to keep up.
Not so impressive anymore, eh? |

Yes, that's probably the same amount relative to total accounts as CCP bans per day on average, why ?
Blizzard has somewhat more cash to spend on it. And I can assure you that as soon as they see a way to stop spending all that money on GM's without it resulting in half their playerbase running away in disgust they will do so. _______________________________________________

CCP ban peeps all the time, they just dont let us know the stats unless deemed important.
I would like to know the stats myself.

WoW can afford to ban so many accounts because it has many more subscribers - CCP can't.
Eve only has 80k accounts and I'd hazard a guess that a sizeable amount of those 80k belong to macroers. Banning macroers in large numbers costs CCP revenue. Don't keep kidding yourself that CCP has the players bests interests at heart. If they wanted to get rid of macroers, they could. They wrote the damn game and all its code, don't you think they could come up with a way to get rid of (if not severly impact) macroers?

There are far fewer macroers than players, but at the same time those macroers cause far greater server load and cost CCP much more due to the fact that they're on 23/7. I would not be surprised if they actually costed CCP money once you added it all up. I'd also not be surprised if there were below 1000 total farmers/macroers.
If CCP could ban them automagically, they would
CCP did not start EVE for the purpose of making millions of dollars. They started EVE for the purpose of creating a game with an ideal. If they wanted to make loads of money, they would have made a more mainstream game like World of Warcraft, not a niche game like EVE. - Proud member of the [23].

Eve is a macroers paradise.
Its got to be the easiest game ever to macro in.
Heck, mining in itself is virtually an afk activity - especially Ice mining. Macorers are even protected by the mechanics of NPC corps and no spawns to worry about in high-sec systems.
Why, after all this time and after hundreds upon hundreds of posts and petitions is the macro-menace still on the increase?

if they were banning people, why do we see the same sweatshop characters macro mining all day every day for the past 2-3 months?

So?
That's blizzard, not CCP.
Two completely different companies with two completely different market strategies, revenue dependencies and company policies.
I fail to see your point.

well blizzard is banning random people, several of my friends accounts has been banned for no reason at all. they then had to petition to reopen their accounts and the response was basicly "yea, sorry about that, unbanned it now" two weeks later...

Blizzard doesn't ban people for farming.
This will get you banned in WoW:
1. Racial comments (instant ban. Don't even mess with this. Even being reported for this-- whether or not it's actually true will get you suspended) 2. 3-rd party program botting (AFK leveling, etc) 3. Haxoring (speed, warp hax, etc.)

They ARE reported! Thats the whole point! Nothing seems to be done. The same old characters, mining away 23/7 MONTHS after being petitioned!
Hence, the underlying point is either;
1) CCP are grossly understaffed and cannot cope with the sheer number of petitions, or
2) CCP chose to ignore the vast majority of macro petitions because banning them all would put a severe dent in their monthly income.
We got ONE post from a GM in the summer stating a whopping 80 macroers had been banned! WOW! a massive 80... six months ago - and not another word since.
At this rate Eve will be macro free in no time

An other thread got just locked by an intelligent ISD member, referring to a 3 months old post that "we are doing about things, just banned whole 200 or so". It's just not enough...

CCP's inaction is intolerable. I'm so frustrated with this game at this point. I will never get ahead by playing by the rules. The macrominers just busted the market for glacial mass in Metropolis... and they're still there in Elgoi, nonstop.
I hope that the only players CCP ends up with are the macroes. They'll have 2000 individuals running 20,000 characters simultaneously, and CCP will probably be HAPPY.
"Congratulations to us, we had 30,000 players on at once last night...." Bull! You had 1/3 of that legitimately.

I reported like 30 of them in a petition the week before christmas. they said they were escalating it to a senior GM and there were no further replies even though I added another 30 or so since then.
the ming1-ming23 group was a hot topic on the forum a couple months ago, but they're still macroing.
why bother petitioning if nothing ever happens?

Because they're not macroing, they're farming. Which is not against the rules. Unless you can show a link between them and Ebay/similar then there's nothing CCP will do about it.

but they ARE macroing.
find a farmer group, notice how they mine continuously with no gaps due to cargo filling and lasers turning off.
then bump them off the belt or pop their can, notice how they sit there doing nothing for up to 20 minutes before the macro operator looks at that client and moves his miners back to the belt or makes a new can.

This is CCP's game. They own all rights, all accounts, characters, and items within it. We, as players, have no rights to anything at all. If CCP wanted to ban an account, they don't owe any one of us an explanation as to why its being banned. This is in their own R&R.
The fact that people are farming and not afk macroing shouldn't make any difference to the ethics of it. We all know (including CCP) where that farmed ore/isk ends up.

Math should be banned....except for when you use it to range your guns, then it's cool.

Actually the sound of CCP banning 4 accounts a day sounds pretty good to me.
At least then we'd know SOMETHING is being done - no matter how pitiful

Do you guys just call anyone who has multiple accounts a macro miner? If they are at the keyboard and responding to people who talk to them then there is not much a GM can do. It sounds like it is next to impossible to find out if the person is putting the money on E-Bay or other isk-selling places.
