TO those discussing how there is a ring shaped explosion, the torpedo is traveling at more than a thousand meters a second, and each one has a decently large mass. The energy is going to be enough to punch a small hole is the armor plating. Then, once it is inside, a ring shaped charge has a chance of ripping the ship in 2, rather than having all of the energy applied to nearby supports. What we see is the shockwave carrying bits of a ships armor and hull with it. |

Torp-splosions need to be smaller, yet have heat-distortion, blur, bloom, lens flares and little comet trail bits to compensate. |

Good luck penetrating a 1600mm (about 5' thick) titanium plate with something like that.
1600mm is about 63 inches. there's 1,000mm in a meter. |

are you trying to correct him? because he's right, 1600mm is just over 5 feet, your math kinda proves that.

BTW, please remember that the new Caldari T3 BC, the Naga, will have 8 siege missile launchers!
Seeing as it might be used as an anti-drake ship, I dare you to imagine the torpedo spam.
This effect would then in turn spoil the beautiful new nebulae, and really who would want that?

Nice find. I was about to say S/AAMs. You beat me to it. I can further elaborate in that this blast pattern is most relevant as a proximity fused detonation, as direct hits are typically pretty much sure kills. In the case of a proximity detonation, its the rod fragments ripping through the aircraft that causes the damage, rather than heat/explosive/plasma damage.
Cone-shaped detonation patterns are popular as focused energy is more effective for penetrating armor plates, ala anti-tank missiles and some IEDs employed by certain radical groups.
