I apologize in advance if this comes across as a silly n00b question.
I only started playing (and subscribed) yesterday, even though I learned about EVE more than two years ago. So far, I found the game quite awesome - the graphics, the ship designs, and the mysterious objects in space.
However, the shaky, grey tunnel animation is making me SICK. I get a dull headache after doing 5-6 jumps, and feel slightly nauseous. I feel the same from some FPS games, which is why I *never* play them. Is there a checkbox to turn off the tunnel?
I would love to continue playing EVE and explore everything it has to offer. However, if I cannot turn this off, I will just let my subscription run out and move on.
Once again, I apologize if it is a silly question - but nobody in Rookie Chat could help me.
On another note, I just wonder if there is another MMO where I could play a "bad guy" (that's why I came to EVE). Any advice on this? |

I know you are not trying to be nice.
But believe it or not, I DID try to close the ol' blinkers. Problem is, I don't know when the tunnel effect is over. And when I open my eyes right at the moment the next system appears, the effect is positively vertigo-inducing..
As in, I almost lost my dinner.
Sorry, this is a non-solution for me |

I guess you play without World Sound ? You can hear when the transition is over, because it makes a distinct noise at the end of it ... |

I do, from certain movies (shot handheld or with steadicam), or FPS games.
Interestingly, my father is exactly the same way, so I guess it runs in the family. My gf does not have this problem, but she hates being in the back seat of the car (for almost the same reason) :) |

The part I only even notice any more is when the ship and gate align and the exit sequence when the other system appears. No motion sickness here.

I play with sound off. Don't like headphones, and don't want to wake half the house at night with a loud whoosh :) |

WHOA - that is one LONG thread!
So am I right in understanding that:
* other people feel sick from this? * there is no "off" checkbox so far?
I know there is a new point release coming on Tuesday... Is this going to be fixed by then? |

i've had motion sickness before, sure. but, for me, that's always been when i've actually been moving. like on a watercraft. a fair ride. that terrible mission to mars experience at disney epcot center in orlando...(which ironically i did 3 times even though i wanted to puke every time).
i don't get the same feeling from a non-moving screen. especially if i'm just sitting in front of it not moving myself.
i feel bad for you. it must suck =p |

Thanks... It most certainly does SUCK.
Which is why I decided to post here to maybe find a solution...
IRL, I every time I go scuba-diving, I take antihistamines, because I know it won't be fun if I don't take them. But I can't do that every time I play EVE :))) I would just be too sleepy, and popping these pills every day can't be good for me.

Suggestion.
Play in windowed mode, drag the title bar to the top (win7) so it fully extends. Open another window like ... explorer and resize it so you only see the top few cm of your EvE client.
Every time you jump, you alt+tab to the other window. By looking at the top few cm, you can clearly see when the jump is over and can easily switch back.
That's better than nothing. |
