Goodness. Reading a thread like this makes me despair of the future of Eve with a playerbase like this.
Even Stavr0s is acting like a carebear :p

c'mon Stavros you are better than that - no need to try to claim what Roark is doing is greifing.
It's no more greifing than the pirating mOo or SI does every day.

I heartily approve of what Roark is doing - it doesnt' depend on if he is in the right or wrong.
He is trying to use in game methods to accomplish something, rather than whining on the boards or petitioning CCP to give him back his money. If you've got a problem with someone, blow them up. If you can't do it, pay other people to blow them up for you. This is how problems should be settled.

Roark has every right to put such a huge bounty on James. James had every right to take the money, and has every right now to keep it, and thumb his nose at TTI and tell them to do their worst.
Conflicts like that are what makes the game INTERESTING. I can't believe all the poor sports out there who think Roark should take such a huge loss laying down. Goodness.

James saw an opportunity, moved in, and took it. Kudos to him for thinking quick and being fast on his feet.
Now TTi is applying in game methods to get their money back. Kudos to them for actually seeking revenge in game, and actually DOING something, rather than sitting around whining or petitioning CCP to get it back.

All of you who claim what TTi is doing is greifing just sicken me. Could you be any more carebear? Is what James did Greifing? What he did was perfectly acceptable by game mechanics.
So is what Roark is doing. You seem to want to be able to steal money from someone and then not have to accept the consequences!! Grow some balls!

That would be like me robbing a trader, and then running to the forums and crying when their corp declares war on me, saying how unfair all this 'greifing' that they are doing is.

James effectively robbed TTI of 100 million. He did it in a perfectly acceptable way. Heck, it would be perfectly acceptable if he'd blown up Roark's ship and looted 100 mill from his cargo pod.
TTI wants revenge. And thus the stage is set for a bit of fun.

One of the guys in our alliance robbed a guy of 40 million: He agreed to buy 48 million of megacyte. The trader shows up, and puts in the megacyte to trade window.
The buyer put in 4800000 isk. The trader clicked accept. The buyer gleefully informed us he'd just made about 43.2 million :)

Now is this any different than what James is doing? Not really. Our guy knew the trader wasn't really wanting to sell all that megacyte for 4.8 million, just as James knew TTi wasn't really wanting to buy one unit of Tritanium for 100 million.
But both were able to take advantage of a moment of inattentiveness on the part of the seller and robbed them blind. Good for them.
To then claim the seller is 'greifing' when he comes back to reclaim what he lost is extremely childish. Tell 'em to do their worst and live with the consequences. Or cut a deal somehow.

I think most of you are letting your envy and hatred of TTI get in the way of a rational view of this matter. It's perfectly fine to hate TTI and to cheer James on for taking themoney. Just at least have the maturity to not try to weep and wail about 'greifing'. Stop asking CCP to hold your hand and protect you from your choices in game.

"Yea but... James didnt rob anyone. It was all legit."

No, it's still robbery. It's just legimate robbery. Just as in this game we have legitimate piracy and legitimate murdering. ;)

Or think of it as scamming as you will. Scams aren't quite robbery, as the person AGREES to give you the money. It's perfectly legit.

However, they don't get what they thought they were getting. You take advantage of a mistake on their part.

I hope no one is going to be foolish enough to suggest that going after scammers is 'greifing'.

Stavros - taking someone in under your wing just to generate more fights is a perfectly acceptable desire :) There's no need to try to dress it up by claiming you are protecting him from greifing :D

"He did not scam, he fullfilled a legit buy order? Where is the scam in that?"

Where is the scam in how our alliance member tricked the trader into selling 48 mill in megacyte for 4.8 mill? It was a legit trade! The guy *agreed* to it!

All scams involve 'legit' transactions. You are merely taking advantage of the mistakes of others (in being too trusting, in being too hasty to double check the trade amount, etc) for your own profit. And yes, James deliberately took the money from TTi - it wasn't some honest mistake where he then gave the money back. He didn't inquire and say "Hey, I see you guys have 100 mill for 1 unit of tritanium. Did you mean to do that?" Nor should he have. :) He should've swooped in and grabbed the money, which he did. However it's naive of him (or anyone else) to assume TTI won't be at least mildly annoyed and come looking for some payback.

Whether or not James scammed/stole or not is rather irrelevent however. James is free to keep the money, and TTi is free to go after him for it.

James needs to be willing to live with the consequences of his money grab. He seems to be doing a pretty good job of it. I haven't heard him complaining. It's all the other people screaming "OMG GREIFING! TTI! PIRATES! WAAAAH!" that are annoying ;)

terrorfakt: comparisons of this game to real life are completly pointless, as being a murderer or a pirate is not an allowable profession in real life, but is supposed to be in EVE.

In EVE I can shoot someone and take his stuff. CCP is not going to make me give it back. You think I can do that in real life?

Which ones James, Viceroy and Trap? :D They're the ones that like to get into the spirit of being a pirate the most :D

"(gotta love pathetic threats from people who try to scam you first then threat you even though they have no idea where you are)."

I wouldn't be too sure of that. Our corp has access to agents who can locate people, and we've used them before quite a bit.

Lots of people probably have access to these agents.

That's funny Sutty, when I read the thread, all I see are petty TTi haters in James anus!

James, on the other hand, seems to be handling the situation fairly well. ;)
