I was going to do my first level 4 mission in a raven and was wondering if people had any tips in the new RMR environment for someone that is not mega rich so can't afford to lose multiple ravens or equip myself with the best most expensive mods. Here is the setup I was thinking would work best and is based on my personal experience from lvl 3 missions plus extensive readings of ship builds in this forum..
---high--- 6 Cruise Missiles 2 heavy nos ---mid--- 2 hardeners T2 specific to rats 1 Invulnerability T2 1 XL booster 1 Shield Amp or Large shield extender (not sure which to use) 1 Target painter ---low--- 3 PDS T2 (or maybe 2 PDS and 1 Dmg Control) 2 WCS
TIA for any advice and tips.

lose the painter - another hardener, or a cr2

Does nos effect rat performance now? I haven't missioned in a while and thought it worked differently on NPC. Meaning with a PC a Nos with run them out of cap to a point where they cant run mwd, etc. Is the same now true for NPC? Can you nos an NPC into futility like you can a PC?
I might experiment with that some. Personally I'd rather have a couple sm/md lasers onboard the to take out the frigs. I say lasers because they have fast ammo switch out.

Edited by: ro prefect on 05/01/2006 19:00:30 I have platinum insurance. I can afford 1 raven death, but not two so if I lost this one I would have to wait on lvl 4 missions for a while.
I use the NOS mainly to keep my cap up so I can keep using the Shield booster. Though I would hope it would also drain the cap of an NPC frig that is scramming you.

Anyway
A decently fitted BS can easily complete any level 3 mission.
A well fitted BS requires personal skill and tactics on some of the level 4 missions.
The raven might be different, but my machariel has at least 3 different set-ups for level 4 (and only 1 for level 3).

Good to know. Thanks.
Yeah, like he said, you'll probably need a couple different setups depending on the mission/stage.
Sometimes you'll want anti-frig, others anti-BS, other mega-tank. It's really trial by fire until you get to know the different missions, and what they require.

Should be warned that cruise missiles will have a hard time on some of the harder tankers. ----------- STFU Macromoaners |

You'll need 2-3 ballistic controls to be effective with cruise launchers. I'd suggest to lose your warp core stabs for couple of bcu2's. And fit heavy cap booster with 800 charges instead of target painter.

I am worried if I lose my WCS and get scrammed in hard mission I'll be dead. Not sure how common warp scrambling is. The heavy cap booster is a good idea, which I meant to mention in my first post as a possible altnerative to the target painter.

How about 4 cruise and 2 torpedos? I can use torpedos, but I have never actually used them as Ive only done lvl 3 missions where I don't even use cruise missiles. If I should use torpedos, any recommendations on what type or is that all dependant on the rats?

I know about using Thrm vs Kin and so on, but torpedos are unguided. Does that mean I have to be really close to use them and only against large and slow moving ships?
