Opt in/out option via if you talk in it or not.
NO way of scanning a system for people not in local (look at map for activity in system)
This would allow ambushes to be properly setup, create a lot more intresting combat. It would make low sec haulers and miners require proper protection with backup on call ect ect. |

covert ops has nearly no place at all in eve because of local.
Miners can go low sec (where its supposed to be dangerous!) without escorts and not worry cos they just monitor local.
Haulers can take shortcuts through low sec without worrying if they have a buddy or alt to scout and say local is clear.
LOW SECURITY systems are supposed to be that! DANGEROUS.
Local ruins the whole atmosphere, u enter a system you immediately know everyone thats in there, what a crock!
FIX IT PLEASE CCP (u only show in local if you say something in local)

Originally by: Mnengli Noiliffe If people were invisible in local only when they arrived using jump drive, it would make large fleet engagement possible - you build a titan, fill it with your fleet and jump into system unnoticed.
cant jump drive in high sec :(
all these module ideas and stuff just complicate the issue when its actually really simple.
you only show up in local if u chat in local = better eve for everyone

Also lets face, fleet battles are cool. When was the last time you saw one in empire or even anywhere. Why are fights nearly always at gates?
without local telling u everyone in system, mining ops would need escorts which would make it a mining convoy. Pirates would need to travel in gangs, corps would need to have a small fleet on alert to respond to attacks on their convoys.
Now all of a sudden one game mechanic has made all these players reliant on each other and you'll see a lot more team work and player interaction. |

Originally by: Nyxus Local is frustrating for me because of what seems to be one reason.
With the uber intel of local allowing for the exact count of numbers anywhere in a system (and alts at SS's allowing the exact count of nearby systems) most FC's will avoid fighting unless they are absolutely sure of battlefield dominance.
This extreme avoidance of risk usually ends in engagements where one group is outnumbered 2:1 before anyone has the guts to warp in. Even then it's rarely at close range, but rather at extreme range which is very very tiresome after a bit.
Removing local and and utilizing constellation would at least allow more effective baiting tactics and require more active covert ops, so I could say something like "Oh look, you brought 20 people at 15km to attack our 5 person gang sitting on the gate. Well let me show you the other 10 ships we had hidden as they land on top of you while I eat your face."
TBH it gets really old to sit at a gate or SS waiting....and waiting.....and waiting for the other group to have enough ships more than you do so they will feel "safe" engaging. To me, it's not about trying to attack with blobs, it's trying to get people to fight with reasonable numbers or trick them into fighting with even numbers.
I do see your point though. Anything that can be done to trick with even numbers can be used to blob till the servers cry. And the last thing I want to do is encourage any of these "pvpers" who log off in a mining system, log in and gank one person only to SS and then log back out. It's a lame tactic and at least local lets you frustrate them by making sure possible targets are out of harms way when they log back on 3 hours later.
Jeez. All I want is a chat system and the ability for more tactical warfare options and a more active and effective role for covert ops pilots. Why does that seem so hard to create? Can't we have the old release "radar" system that autoscans for "blips" coming out of warp or something? Local just feels like an all-seeing eye like the old uber map was.

Originally by: Maya Rkell If you want to hide from local, let's introduce NEW systems to ADD ON the ability to do it, with appropriate counters. This I have said before. MANY times.
while i feel no need to convince you of anything :p what you suggest i see as a happy compromise. For example if a module was introduced that allowed you to hide from local this would be a start. I think what you would find is EVERYONE would have this module fitted if they were going to 0.0, EVERYONE would agree that these modules are a waste of a slot and we should just goto the original idea of you appear in local if you start chatting in local :D
PS CCP where are you? please respond to this thread already! i am gonna keep posting on it so it stays on the front page until A. a dev responds, B it gets a sticky, C both A & B occur :) But your idea would be heaps better than what we have now so i am in full support of it. |
