Quote: Ok here is a thought for all player.
Who would like to see all gates protected, to stop gate campers. OK yes will admit that once into a system you take your chance. But at least let players get in to them and not get killed dead as soon as they come through a gate. A lot of the time you do not even get a chance to try to lock a target, let alone shoot back.
So lets see who agrees with this thought.
Uhh.... this is going to hurt, here goes..
First of all, jumpgates to empire space (choke points) are basically the only place you can pirate.. sure you could chase people around but they tend to warp away before you can do anything, you only catch lazy/slow/stupid people that way. You can't catch people midwarp, you can sometimes catch them outside stations (some people think they can dock before you destroy them).
Secondly, EMPIRE SPACE IS A TOTAL CAREBEAR LAND AND COMPLETELY SAFE SO SHUT UP. You can freaking AFK travel, and go region to region with the super highways..
If I go to empire space, I die. Concord comes and warpscrambles, webs, and owns me. If i get past Concord, sentry guns own me doing 500dmg a hit. If you don't like pirates, stay out of 0.0 space.. it's not supposed to be "safe" out here. ------

Looks like every Pker in the game showed up for this one. So far there answers seem to be the same:
1. If I can not greif at gates were can I.
Where is it written that PKers have the right to annoy anyone? Gates should be kept clear for so many reasion. Even in freelance they understood this and there the gate guns start shooting as soon as the "baddies" are in range.
2. But,, but PKers add spice to the game...
That isn't spice, it what the dog did in the yard and you stepped in it. PKers add nothing to the game and only pkers and pkwanabees beleave that it adds anything for anyone other than their own enjoyment. Stop ****in on our boot and tring to tell us it's raining. If you want spice then put guns on all gates and have them start shooting at you as soon as you get within range. That will get your hart pumping.
3. Gate camping is not PVP. The sooner CCP does away with it the sooner we can get some real PVP (Corp battles) going.
4. Removing gate camping would kill pirates..
You say that like it would be a bad thing. No it would not kill the real pirates only the lamers that do not want to work for their isk. With the exception of Can theives everyone else in the game works for their isk, it's about time the DEVS started making pirates do the same.
OH and case you have not noticed, the Devs know this is a problem that detracts from the game (when you have a group that adds nothing of value) and will eventually have to do something to resolve the PKer plague.

gate camping is lame. game mechanics still favor the camper drastically.
perhaps one day well see a patch that levels the playing field and gives us some decent gate pvp.
until then we get to hear idiots on both sides of the coin ***** and moan. yay

Actually they don't. Blockades only catch the stupid, slow, and lazy. Smart people that can't get through pay a toll, or know how to get around them. It's not hard, you only actually kill maybe 5% of the people that try to pass you, usually. ------

Sorry this would make for a very lame game as you would see it. Its not about corp wars I'm afraid. There is no money in corps wars the way the game is currrently set up and eliminating gate campers will not fix that.
Here is the problem with your world. You want all the isk's but none of the risk. As it is today you already have very little risk. You can for the most part fly you indy anywhere and be safe. Well IMO a indy should never be safe when flying alone. And don't give me any crap about threats from NPC pirates, they are not a threat.
You already have 90% of space safe. What threat do you have in empire space? I swear I think we have a few people that only want a mining sim.
Go read any SCFI novel that has space pirates in them. They ply there trade in the shipping lanes. In eve that is around gates. I'll stop camping gates, something I rarely do, in a heartbeat if you give me a module to pull you out of warp.
Or better yet change the way Concord protects the carebear systems. Make the gates safe but at the same time allow us to raid you in the belts.
But no you don't want that. That means you have to be at your computer and pay attention to your surroundings. Geez, why play a game to begin with. If you want to sleep go to bed.

You have 10 seconds to warp away, 99% of people that approach blockades, do. How does that favor the camper?
Unless you are using a 486 computer you shouldn't have any problems warping away from a fight you don't want to be in.
And yes I agree I want more PvP playing fields too. I don't like the fact I have to sit at a jumpgate to be a pirate, but that is the only viable way to do it, so that's what I do. ------

Andrew Gunn.. you obviously have no idea what that name actually means. Do not confuse a non-williness to fight with an understanding of what lamers can and have done to a game.
Anyone that knows me will tell you I am one of the best PVP you will ever meet. I'm the one that uses a DE in CS just to get the other team a chance (if i don't just knife them). I'm the one that would mortar APCs in Tribes (If i did'nt just snipe the driver and strand the heavys) Im the one that used to shoot off all the ememys weps and let them live in SS (so they were out till they repaired) I'm that annoying person that would shoot your leg off in MW4 before you had a chance to turn around.
No I love PVP and look forward to it. But what you don't seem to get is that the PKers are distracting everyone from the devs that have to stop adding content to patch the loopholes to the players that can not get big enough to afford a war because some lamer is too lazy to work for themselves.
PC Pirats in eve are like that one annoying player in CS, the one that kills the hostages the runs and hides in a tower with an AWP and uses wallhack to shoot anyone (Ts and CTs) than comes in view. Until that player is kicked the game can not continue, and that player will also claim.. I'm adding spice to this game. But in reality, until that guy is kicked the game can not continue. By the same token, because the Devs have to stop and plug all the loop holes EVE can not continue.
Just think where we would be and what would be in the game if the Devs had not had to stop and fix all the loopholes (will not call them exploits yet) that the pirats have used. If a Dev has to take the time to code gate guns or secure cans then that time taken away from implementing/codeing content.
I'm going to repeat this becuse most of you seem to miss it:
If a dev is distracted from adding content or fixing bugs because they have to plug a loop hole a pirat is using then that just moves the important things farther back. This is a bad thing.
When every one cries where is the content, where is the black market, where are the drug runs.... The answer is, sorry we had to stop working on that to fix(patch) the latest Pirate problem/exploit.
So next time you are complaing about nothing to do or nothing added make sure to thank the pkers, not for killing ppl and running off players, but for distracting the Devs.
Once you take an unbiased look at it, you will see that "PKers add nothing of value to the game and are infact hurting it"

You should really learn to draw the line between griefers/exploiters and pirates. Someone going into Yulai and podding newbies without retaliation might as well have "CS Lamer" tattooed on their forehead, but lumping all PC pirates into that group is hardly fair.

How would you 'balance' it then? Guy warps in, can not be touched for 10 seconds, you can't hit anyone for 10 seconds, timer wears off, battle begins. How is that fair?
Do the campers have an advantage? Sure they do, if you warp into 2 battleships with 1 battleship, you got problems. If they have drones out, you might have problems.
Use your scanners, you should have a rough idea what you're warping into, usually. ------

1- When you are about to travel in 0.0 sec levels systems out of empires sovereignity, NEVER sleep or go AFK.
2 - If you're about to warp toward a gate in one of the aforementioned systems, ALWAYS keep a warp to a safer destination ready. Always. You have plenty of time to warp away if you see a blockade. Believe me.
3 - Try to catch a Indy with a MWD passing by and lock it, webify it and/or take it down. Good luck. In the 10 seconds of invulnerability status the cargo is already in jump range.
4 - In FREELANCER you have gates that shoots. Right. But do u have played the game do you? Have u perhaps noticed that pirates have nifty little gizmo's called WARP INTERDICTORS? And that they can ambush you everywhere and whenever they want across a trade route? Actually in EVE you know exactly where an ambush will take place. You don't have more than four spots: Gates, pirates hunting spots, stations and belts.
Hopefully, as the devs have stated that it will happen sooner or later, gravity wells and warp interdictors will make their apparition sometime in the future, thus obliging convoys to travel with an ESCORT (Woha! Talking about organizing the game a little? Talking about new businnes as an armed escort patrol? Plenty of opportunities here...).
Untill then, the pirating activity must rely on the unaware and the distracted one.:) Mors tua vita mea.
Ah, you still have plenty of safe systems, between 0.5 and 1.0 in empire space where to mine, hunt, travel and trade.
Safe travels, Deneba Zaavi Deneba Zaavi

hehe who is carebear? I see all pirates are carebear, they want catch victims by easiest way, camping gates.
I see actually now smarter pirates around who hunting people in 0.0 space proactively. This is far much fair play than camping gate and shooting down Industrials or people called by PC pirates craebear's "Carebears".
Actually I see much like PC pirates become carebears because they whine far much than others :)
Check these forums and you will see 90% post only from PC pirates.
My personal opinion PKer == sucker. If you want play pirate kill ship and get cargo but let escape capsule fly away.
Killing escape pod is only for bounty hunters or someone who attack you by guns or verbally, but it's lowest tactics for griefers.
In fact I never see pirate (PKer, griefer) who didn't kill escape pod if he could.

I've watched EvE go from a badass PvP game to near piece of **** over the span of 7 months. The old EvE community is being replaced with carebears, NOT a good sign. If you don't like fighting whatsoever, do yourself, do me and everyone else a favor and get lost. Just so you know this game is supposed to be PvP oriented, doubt me? Can't help but agree. PvP is part of this game. If you don't like pirates, do something about it. Concord keeps you 100% safe in empire space, but you step outside of that safety zone, you're going to deal with pirates. Don't like it? Tough, we're part of the game too and we do fill a vital role in the game. ------

Edited by: Gai Daigoji on 22/08/2003 12:06:38 This post frightens me. It really, really does.
We *all* know that EVE Online's original intention was to be a PvP game: That was it's main reason de etre: Pirating, inter-corp warfare, smuggling and generally being very naughty indeed. It's only recently that this has started to nosedive as too many people seem to have discovered "the true joys" of mining Omber for 6 hours a day.
I haven't ever really entered into PvP, so I'm certainly no accomplished PK'er, *but*... The more I read these posts, the more I think that camping stations / gates / jolly sightseeing locations might be the *only* way to have any real fun in this game soon. I know it's often repeated (and is now more than a little cliched), but: Do all of you whingers *really* want the world's best mining simulator?
Every day I look at the map, I see big green splodges at places such as FD-MLJ and PF-346, and I ask myself: "Why are you turkeys still entering these places, when you are obviously too ill equipped or too unskilled to get across to the other side?". This is where you whine about how you have no choice, that you have to trade, you have to mine, blah blah blah. And that someone's preventing you from doing it (griefing, no doubt, at that).
Tough. Other people have to play this game too, and as *they* see fit. And that includes the members of corporations such as m0o, Sinister, Space Invaders, M3G4, etc. etc. etc. And that includes them getting their jollies by camping gates and podding the likes of you and me.
A vote to ban gate camping? You can take a big fat juicy "no" from me, thank you very much. As soon as gate camping is nerfed again (and even more than it already is), I will happily join the pirate ranks to help find another way to make this game have something else within it other than chain killing, mass mining or boring trade runs.
So ner
Edited for spelling errors and the use of too many words such as clowns, halfwits and losers.
Please note that the views expressed above are those of Gai Daigoji and not necessarily those of the JGR corporation. |

There are some people who will not be happy until every little bit of risk is gone from this game. I'm not sure why they don't just play railroad tycoon but I guess they like the space element. Those who like the risk should come up with the EVE manifesto which would be a document stating we like the risk involved and that security should be staggered based on sec lvls both system and individual.
