so iv been at eve for a week now, sick of mining in a corp so i decide to go play pirate in a kres decked out w/ rockets and warp scramb/web. i warp into an astroid belt, and get all fun and jumpy! A TARGET! and its an osprey. w/out thinking sure i lock it and web/warp scramble, noticed it had rats on it, **** now i look stupid, LOL, he fires a widowmaker missle at me so i continue to destroy him, loot his container, and warp to a moon frindly hidyhole.
LOL First mistake here: Dont get jumpy and try not to attack targets on rats <makes u look bad> second problem: hard to demand a ransom when rats are beating your target down anyways LOL
all and all, i survived with minimal damage and he got away safely in his pod and had a minor hissy fit.
thanks for listening <awaits the flamming!> LOL
thought id give ya all a laugh

Laugh? Nope.
You got the kill and loot, didn't take a pod sec hit early in your careet, and have hate chat to show for it.
Woo!

Heh, you did good out there, not dying and actually blowing the guy up.
Never be ashamed to rely on the support of npc rats. Just be careful so they don't start firing at you instead of him...

You killed a non-combat ship that was under attack by NPCs as well. It would be hard to lose in that situation.

lol i wish it was a non-combat osprey, woulda been a better time, but no it was a combat osprey <sounds stupid> but he smuckered me with rails and widowmaker missles when he figured out what was happening, he was rat hunting not mining

I don't see how this went wrong. You lost a possible ransom but from the sound of things, I doubt he would've payed anyway. Congrats on your first kill

if he had rails on an osprey it was probably his first step up into cruisers and didn't know the intended role of the osprey, you don't use an osprey for ratting unless you're a newb. I can't believe how many times I went to 0.4 when I started out just because there were 'big' rats there, never realised the danger I was in.
Ah well, they all learn one way or another

Why be a **** about it? Guy's out celebrating his first kill, and you gotta harsh on him? Your ego is that deflated that you gotta make yourself feel better at somebody elses expense?
Sheesh...
Prate, man... grats on your kill, and ignore jags like this guy.
There are predators and there are prey, man. You just took the first step to clawing your way to the top of the food chain. Be a lion.
Guys like that are food.

haha, in the thrilling life of piracy you can never get too dirty... well i'm not too proud of my AFK kills either, but that didn't stop me from killing and looting those AFs...
grats on the kill, NPC rats are truly your best friend, they are weak, annoying, gives bounty and loot, and they don't whine when you kill them... the perfect enemy :P

it sucks when you go in to loot the can, and the npc's destroy you as well. Then all you can do is bump the enemy to death

Osprey has good suprise and can be effective if set up well for combat. It not bad since any t1 frigate will scan you and say "ooh mining osprey, easy kill." Let them get close, then give them a scare.

I recently had my first few PVP scenarios as well. My home is in .6 zone and done mining for awhile and ratting--I wanted a change of pace, and was trying my hand with a few buddies to PVP. After unsuccessfully ransoming people in .4, and losing another potential victim who must have had more WCS than I had scrammers, I left depressed after a failed night and went to go kill some rats. I warped to one belt with no rat spawns, and sat there a second getting ready to chat something to my friend, when suddenly i was locked, scrammed, and getting just tottaly pummeled with missiles. Apparently, a kestrel tried to get bold against my thorax :) I let my 4 trusty hammerheads and my 5 200mm iridium rails take care of him and he went pop fairly fast. My heart was beating so fast, but I was so pumped and excited. That pretty much converted me to wanting the life the life of a pirate ultimately. :) All in all, I survived, gobbled his loot (a t2 a/b was the only good thing :/), didnt pod him, and talked a bit of smack in local. Was a pretty good night

I'd say you did damn well. First engagement was to take down a cruiser. Waiting for the rats to show up is a low blow but we pirates specialize in low-brow combat ;P. You did well m8!

Yah, I hate finding targets with NPC's on them. In my taranis in 0.3 one time, found a nice omen, looked at his ship and OoOoOoO tech II lasers. Thought it was worth a ransom. Got him to half structure, asked for 15m in ransom but the damn NPC's finished him off before I could receive the money

If there are NPCs in the belt and you want to ransom, have a ship with lots of hardpoints and lock the NPCs. Don't shoot your target, just scram/jam/web it. Tell them if they pay the X mil you'll kill the NPCs and let them go, otherwise you'll hold them in place while you help the NPCs do them in.
Extra fun if you fit remote reppers and nos, because then you don't really need weapons. Just keep the target alive using its own capacitor to keep it scrambled, and if they don't pay, turn off the reppers. ------------------------------------ Join Channel MacroIntel! |
