I name all of my ships after Huskys I have had (with variations of adding roman numbers)
If it has survived a hull whipping I add the word Flaming into the name.

I always name my Thoraxes 'Phlying Phallus', because they are.
After listening to too much Gordon Lightfoot, I named one of my Iteron Mk IVs 'Edmund Fitzgerald', which in retrospect was probably a bad idea.

Ceptor is named after an ROU (rapid offensive unit) but I repackaged to move so can't remember the name.
hehe i just finished reading Excession so i named a bunch of my ships after the ships from there, my stiletto's will forever carry the ROU prefix just for being fast little blighters, my prophs will be carrying TOU (tactical offense unit) on the front just because meh.
Had a hauler called sleeper service but that one went suicidal because i moved regions, otherwise i tend to name cool T2 ships have names that sound really cool, most of them get blown up tho :P
I've long since dropped the [sgip name] MK** because when it started getting to things like XI it started to make me look suicidal ^^

I name my ships after Joss Whedon Characters, good books, or whatever MMORPG moment hits my head.
My Ferox:
William the Bloody (Died to a Rogue Drone Dominix Pre-RMR)
William's Vengeance (Died to a 6 Battleship Gate Camp Two Days ago)
Buffy (My Ferox has died twice, it is now qualified for Buffy)
My Caracal:
I was listening to Midas, reliving the glory days of UO when I was outfitting my Caracal, so I named it Chain Lightning.
My Cormorant:
Corsair (It just popped in there)
Corsair II (Damn Serpentis)
A6M5B (I play Aces High, it fits my T2 fitted cormorant very well, flimsy but damn is it deadly.)
Kestrel:
Star Wolf (From Voyage of the Star Wolf)
Star Wolf II (Red Flag class)
Star Wolf III (Red Flag class)
Star Wolf IV (Still alive)
Black Bird:
Mandrake the Mage (unfortunately couldn't fit Magician, old joke)
Punisher:
Francis Castle (So sue my I'm a Marvel fan... and yes I can fly Amarr ships despite being Caldari)
Ships not in possetion but to be named:

When I eventually get and outfit my Raven I already have a name for it.

The majority of mine are named after Nine Inch Nails songs;
Tristan - The Frail (My vampire setup Tristan is called "Radio Waves" a Roger Waters song.
Thorax - The Wretched
Megathron - The Ruiner
Enyo - Eraser
Ishkur - Reptile
Taranis - Sunspot
But it's not a solid rule, there's a few characters of Greek mythology thrown in too. My Brutix for example is the Orestes. But since most Gallente ship names come from Greek mythology i refrain from using any Gods titles.

When the missile nerf hit I renamed my Ferox the "Adapt or Die" and kept fighting in it, still using missiles.
During the big boxing day snowball basho I renamed my fast Condor the Humbug.
I think they both explain themselves.

This character being a scientist and engineer, I've gone for a classical chemistry theme - using older or latin words for the elements such as Aeneus for Stiletto, Hydrargyrus for Breacher, Argent for Rifter, Adamant for Jaguar etc.
Then I've just picked something that was funny at the time in some of those 'you had to be there moments', like Sputnik Parmesan for my Cormorant (don't even ask), Protected By Minipet for my Coercer (REALLY don't ask), The Winged Monkeys for my Ishkur ('don't make me get The Winged Monkeys' and 'fly my pretties, fly!') and Auric Haemorrhage for my Wolf (was going to be called Auric, then got created using someone else's Rifter called the MFS Haemorrhage).

I use named stars in a given constellation and change that whenever I feel like it. At the moment I'm using Ursa Maior for civilian ships and Orion for combat ships.

I name em after the Mechwarrior Univers. With my Deimos proudly being named Hellhound MKV ( MK is ehm, more the number I've lost + 1 then anything else )

If anyone ever played the Conflict Freespace games, most of my ships are named after ships from that game, although I generally put my Corp tag in front, or if I'm feeling daring NTF. Anyone who played Freespace 2 will know what that tag means.
