When i bought my first ship, the Executioner, i named it after the ship in Independence War II - "The Southern Cross", then i thought naming them after constellations would be pretty cool, so i named the Punisher "Cassiopeia" and my latest addition (i've only been playing for a bit more than 2 weeks this time around) the Thorax i've named the "Auriga" and i will continue with this course, because, put simply, it's completely *****in.
So how do you name your ships (if at all, mostly when i check a ship info it's just
$name = ("$eve_player"'s ."$eve_ship_class");
(sorry for that little bit of php )

Edited by: HippoKing on 08/01/2006 12:08:23 generally what i feel like at the time. atm, i'm in a ferox called the "HMS Fugly", but earlier i was flying the "OMGhi2u!" raven and the "Jammy Dodger" blackbird
and when i'm flying round low sec, my names don't usually stay the same for very long, i'd rather people didn't recognise them

CFS (CORVD Free Ship) and then either a town or county name, depending on ship class
eg:
CFS Cagliari CFS Torino II CFS Glamorgan CFS Suffolk

My Deimos is called The Hardmobile. I've gone through about four of them so far but I still call them all "The Hardmobile". It comes back to when I had my Thorax. I named my Thorax "The Softmobile" to go along with my corp name "Pillowsoft". It seemed appropriate that my ship be given a cuddly name and that's what popped to mind. When I got the Deimos, the resistances on the armour made it an incredible tank, making it a lot harder a nut to *****. I therefore held with the naming scheme from my thorax and called it The Hardmobile.
And my Ishtar, I just named "Cuddlebug" because it sounded cuddly. I think that's nibbler's ship's name from Futurama.

I generally come up with something... but if I lose that ship in a particularly memorable fashion I'll name its follower after it- ie, 'fenris II'

I was listening to Iron Maiden when I first flew my harpy, and so named it 'Iron Maiden'. The same with my blackbird which is called 'The Trooper', great song.

I name virtually all of mine after Royal Navy ships:
Exeter, Endeavour, Vistafjord, St David, Intrepid.
The only exception is the one I named "Thunderchild" after War of the Worlds. I couldn't resist it!

Uhhm ... i prefer names from the game Homeworld (and its successors) ...
Names like:
Kuudark, Fiirkan, Cal-Shto, Faal-Corum, Ferin-Sha, Quaar-Jet and stuff like this
And sometimes names that sound "interesting" too me .. almost asian/japanese names

Mine are usually named due to the character of the ship;
Interceptor; Lemming (first in first killed)
Assault frigate; Lil' bugger mk2 (small hard to hit but even then hardly any damage and if he catches you he/she will bugger you up proper like!!! also lil' bugger mk1 is my t1 version of the same ship).
My now dead Dominix; ( ) HMS Hive (thought it sounded cool for a drone carrier).
Etc Etc.
"Hammerhead: Boobies."

Rosencrantz my Wolf Guildenstern my Rifter
I'm training for a Vigilant next, I will christen her Ophelia. Gallente ships look feminine to me. :]

Usually chose names from Ian Banks novels or from the Ian Banks "suggestions" thread on his forum ... hence the Raven is Ethics Gradient, Tactical Grace for 1400 equipped Tempest and Lucifer's Hammer for Typhoon
Ceptor is named after an ROU (rapid offensive unit) but I repackaged to move so can't remember the name.

Executioner: Zoomy!! Ferox: HMS Wibblebottom Blackbird: Coochiecoo Moa: Smoochiekins Kestrel: SnugglePuggle
And then the rest of my ships are typically HMS followed by what should sound like a good ship name.
Badgers: HMS Defiance, HMS Vigilant
for example :)
Glamorgan? thats an odd county to pick. Are you Welsh by any chance mate? Memorable Quotes <Jarltan Dimtras> OH MY GOD MY GF IS A DUDE |

You know how when you first assemble a ship, it's named "[character name]'s [ship name]"? Like "Nikolai Nuvolari's Ibis"?
I have an Iteron Mk V. I thought it would be funny to use that same naming convention, except change it so that instead of "Nikolai Nuvolari's Iteron Mk V", it would say "Nikolai Nuvolari's *****", the last word referring to male genitalia. It looks more like a vibrator, but I don't fly a Thorax, so the Iteron is the next best thing.
Turns out, I can't name my ship "Nikolai's Nuvolari's *****", because... get this... ... it's really funny... ... wait for it... ... IT'S TOO LONG!

Id like to name my T2 ships after their T1 conterpart. Like my Deimos I name Thorax so that if someone is attacking me and they look really fast on my ship they get a little surprice :)

My shuttles are 'Flying Coffin' [roman numeral]. :D -- I want my people to reclaim their rightful place in the galaxy... I want a rebirth of glory, a renaissance of power... I want us to be what we used to be. |
