Now, here's my quandry. I'm already in a merlin (courtesy of my Corp PARASOL :) ) and i am sporting two 125mm railguns and two standard missile launchers. I am a fighter and am speccing to take to heavies (i.e. battlecruisers, battleships, destroyers, etc).
Now, my question is, what combination of skills will maximize on my caldari racial skills (i forgot the name of the bloodline but it's not the hardcore trooper one, it's the commander) to devliver the maximum amount of hitting power without sacrificing too much in defense or EW.
This is a complex question seeing as how I am at work and cannot list all the skills i currently have. But I will list the skills i remember: Frigate III Spacesship Command III Gunnery IV Standard Missile Launcher Operation II Standard Missile II Engineering I Mechanic I Repair Systems I Drones I Navigation I Shield Systems I Long Range Targetting I Learning III
Unfortunately I know i have more but I just can't remember what they are.
Anyone knowledgable about Caldari fighter builds have any suggestions? |

Missile skills maxed. Railgun skills maxed. Sheild skills maxed. EW skills maxed. Supplementary (Engineering, Mechanic, Electronic) skills maxed. Caldari ship command skills maxed.
This would be a perfect caldari fighter, but I doubt anyone has that. Get them all to 4 and you'll be doing fine.

thanks for the guidance! i'm tossing this out there to get as many ideas as possible from people and it was nice to see a reply after the first 15mins i posted :)
the more comments on here the better. i value any and all input (even negative as it can actually involve some good information inadvertantly while someone is trying to flame your noobishness) |

Well 1st thing you have to do is decide which type of ship you are going to fly. You'll either fly a primarialy a missile boat (kestral) or a railgun platform (like the merlin), each has it's benifits but it's more about your play style then anything else.
For a rail platform you are still going to need to tank the incomming damage so you have to decide on armor tanking or sheild tanking. If you are going to primarily fly caldari ship that choice has been made for you as the Caldari ships are primarily sheild tanking ships. To use the sheild equipment effectively you'll need: Sheild Operations 4, Sheild Management 4, Sheild compensation 4, Engineering 4 and Tactical Sheild Ops 4. This will allow you to use all the high end resistance fittings, extenders and boosters. Another area is your cap skills you need both cap size and cap recharge at 4. Then you can focus on gunnery skills, gunnery to 4 and all other skills to 3 as a start or you can get your missile launcher ops to 4 and get all the missile skills to 3 (don't forget about the weapon upgrades skill it wotks for missiles too). Then you'll need webber skill, jammer skills , nos skill, smartbomb skill, ect... ect... ect...
Just pick the kind of ship you like flying, the way you like doing damage and try it all out. I'm kinda new at this game as well, but you may also want to get all your base learning skills to 3 as it is the biggest pay off in the shortest time.
Good luck and have fun out there.

right now i'm training my frigate skill up to 4. i'm on a quest to get into the heavies category (cruisers, battlecruisers, etc) and i'm mainly focusing on missiles and railguns. i already have my Gunnery up to 4 and my learning to 3 (but i need to invest in the learning skills beyond basic).
thanks for the input. i'll start working on my shielding once i get done with frigate 4 (2 more days).

I would stay in a frig till u need a cruiser, if u can do it in a frig then do it in 1 cus its sooo much faster for collecting cans n stuff and more fun to fly \o/

well, my primary job in my corp right now is security for mining ops. since we are a small corp we need more heavies than firgates right now (the new people coming in can supply the frigate protection) so that's why i'm going more towards heavies than frig's atm.
once i get done with training my frig skill up to IV i think i'm going to focus on either missiles or shields up to IV.
what do you guys think?

I'm a caldari missile user and in the process of maxing my missile skills right now. I would definately, definately, definately invest in the learning skills beyond basics. Max all of the basic ones except for charisma one, leave that at 4. max learning. and then get all the adv learning skills and get those to 4. you can train different things inbetween learning skills so youre not bored and stuck where you are, but train those to 4 quickly. you will notice your training time go wayyy down. then i would suggest getting in a cruiser as is cheap and easy since you dont seem to like frigates. then either pick between missiles or gunnery. i picked missiles, i will probably train gunnery skills aferwards, but i picked missiles first, and its really what im proficient with at the moment. train all your engineering skills to 4/5 and train a couple electronics skills to 4/5 stuff. il go get a skill list of necessities.

Like I said before, try and get all your basic learnings maxed (except for charisma) and adv learnings to 4 asap. Get these skills to the level i list next to them afterwards and maybe inbetween learnings:
Missile Skills: guided missile precision - level 4 missile bombardment - level 4 missile launcher operation - level 5 missile projection - level 4 rapid launch - level 4 target navigation prediction - level 4 warhead upgrades - level 4 standard missiles - level 4 heavy missiles - level 4
Electronics Skills: Electronics - level 5 electronics upgrades - level 3 signature analysis - level 4 targeting - level 4
Engineering Skills (shield skills are located here): Engineering - level 5 Shield Compensation - level 4 Shield Operation - level 5 Shield Management - level 4 Shield Upgrades - level 4 Tactical Shield Manipulation - level 4 Energy Systems Operation - level 5 Energy Grid Upgrades - level 3
Navigation: This is a small section. Basically get most of the skills here to levels 3 and 4. Get navigation to level 5 maybe. Also would get drones skills, all big ships need drones. Train spaceship command as you need it. Remember that this is no rigid guidline, and you may want to take time to get all these skills to level 3 before you start training 4. Have fun playing eve. you will figure out and be comfortable making your own decisions on what skills to train well before you finish these, so do not worry.

Your going to have to go missles if you want Caldari. A few ships in Caldari do use Rails, but if your not going ot use an Eagle or a Moa for long, then focus on Missles.
Train all your missle types EXCEPT defenders to 4. Train all your missle attribute skills to 4 except warhead upgrades. Train that to 3 until you move up to Cruise/Torps in a Battleship.
Shield skills and cap skills must be at level 5. Those are the shield capacity, shield recharge, cap capacity and cap recharge.
Fitting skills are also important as missle launchers have high CPU needs. So train electronics, engeneering to level 5, and weapon upgrades to level 4, and shield upgrades to level 3 or 4.
If you can train advanced weapon upgrades to level 3.
This will allow you to fit all the mods you want on your ship to maximize damage.
Additionally train dones up. once you move past BC frigs and cruisers can be a pain in the arse using BS weapons, drones are better.
Also train mechanics and hull upgrades to 5/4 respectively. As a shield tank will fail it's good to hav a cusion to absorb hits while you warp out.
Supplimental skills such as Spaceship command and evasive manuvering are also invaluable as caldari ships were made slow and sluggish about 2 years ago.
All this assuums you ahve good learning skills. Ideally you have all basics except charisma to 5 and advanced learnign to level 3/4.
However having the basic learning to 4 each is totally sufficient so long as you don't loise sight of them and advance them when you can.
Hope this helps
