Having been out of alliance politics for a while (Decided to found a brand new corp (Mostly for the challenge) incase anyone is interested) and now being on the outside looking in, it would appear to me that the North and the South seem to have changed positions somewhat. The North was for a long time, before and after BOB came on the scene, synonymous with smaller infighting alliances. The South on the other hand for the most part remained relatively stable, apart from the break-up of CA and other significant events. (By which I mean that the number of alliances in the South has remained rather more uniform and friendships were quite common.)
It therefore worries me to see the South in such a fractured state, whilst G, Iron and other Northern alliances appear to be such stable powerhouses in modern EVE. Most of this I assume is still due to bad blood over the whole "SA Vs SE" incident and other subsequent traumas, however this should be irrelevant. In my eyes it looks like the much publicised "North Vs South" war is very nearly over with the South looking like the underdogs due to an alarming tendency toward defence, concentrating the few offensives on neighbours. Even BOB, fabled for their exploits seem to be having a tough ride. And no wonder as they are nearly the only entity actually on the offensive in Northern territory from what I see.
Basically the way it looks to me is if ever the North is going to recieve a realistic challenge then the South needs to once again unite, stop this infighting and start co-operating. Its far easier to attack your neighbours than a distant enemy I conceed, but think about this.... If leaders in the South do not push very hard toward unilateral mending of fences and co-operation, we will no doubt see an even more fragmented cluster of alliances in the South, not able to do much more than defend themselves to the best of their abilities, or is this incorrect? History would seem to agree with me. Wouldn't it be amazing to see a strong and unified South go up against the strong and unified North? Wasn't that what we all wanted when the "North Vs South" idea hit the forum headlines?
These are my personal views. Like I said earlier I have been out of the political arena for some time so please feel free to correct any mistakes I may have made. But I will ask if possible to contain the flaming. My wish here is simply to see the South reunify, not to Troll or dig up old arguments,
These were my 2 pence. Thankyou for reading. "The South will rise again!" _______________________________________________

Word.
It is pointless, with the state of the servers at this time, to engage in the kind of battleplan that is required to actually hurt an alliance and / or force compliance with a set of rules and ideals.
Until 100 on each side is once again possible, don't expect to see people clamouring for them.

But to be honest it's everyone in Providence, Catch and Querlilous fighting lag, hope this will change with the upcoming fixes. But having a nice alliance of alliances working together is good fun and bodes well for the future.

Actually, I wasn't mentioning corporations, only alliances, but if you want that clarified. The hostilities have been like so (check the relevant killboards to see who's been involved):
FIX+friendly corps(Asuya,Council,Exile,Arcane Industries) vs SA/HUZZAH/KAOS/IMP/UCC/NOVA+friendly corps (Shadow Company, DAB, Hedgehogs and others)
I would mention what sort of results have been happening, but it would be rude to hijack this thread, those arguements have been dealt with elsewhere and the people involved know the results.

Quick comment there both alliance's have friendly corps that have been engaging (not on the alliance's behalf)with the other alliance before open conflict even begain between SA and FIX.

Edited by: BOOFER on 10/01/2006 17:18:28 Okay the situation seems to be three wars in the South. The South East vs Reds, The South West vs FIX and finally BOB and ASCN vs Iron and G. Not precise I know but its the gist im after here.
Now lets hypothesise. Lets say ASCN space is taken by G and Iron (Sorry to Cyvok et al this is meerly an eg. I know full well what you are capable of.) and lets say G and IRON move to the nearest target ...... *looks at map* Tribal... Would the rest of the South be friendly enough to help them out? (Again no offense meant to Abs et al) Thats the kind of friendship there used to be for quite sometime. (After the SCA thing and the SA-SE thing it got a bit turned around) Because theoretically again the North who are attacking the South could take a target at a time and slowly make their way across... I ask you is this concieveable?
Also please take into account that in the last 5 months the South has gone from 5-6 alliances to 10 - 11. Smaller spaces are easier to defend but not as larger player pool to draw from. also the more alliances the more statistical likelyhood of friction.
Now what if there are more splits.
This is the point im trying to get across if you follow me.... Not sure I do myself after reading this again _______________________________________________

Actually everyone that fires on the combatants involved is not allied with us and vica versa, the only alliances working together against FIX are SA + Kaos + Huzzah, the corps were mentioned as they are flying in FIX gangs and are playing a very active part in the war for FIX which is commendable on their part.
However getting back on topic it does show that not everyone is fighting everyone else in the south but can work together.
And Max is right, this is new stuff for us and a big adventure, very challenging but regardless what happens the only way to grow yourself in your capabilities is to sometimes jump in the deep end and go for it.

You misunderstand. There's no complaints here, Max.
I love the new SA/KAOS/HF group. They come ready to kill and ready to die. I haven't once seen them doing anything like a mass logoff or run to the hills like girls, regardless of whether they're in a significantly outnumbered force or not. A few just safespot to infinity, but that's what self-preservation will do to you. To be honest, this is such a refreshing change from the run-of-the-mill 'log and gank' and 'internal sabotage' merc/pirate/alliance entities that we have faced recently. No more of this travelling 13 jumps only to watch the whole right side of your screen fill w/ people logging off.
p.s. They do us the great courtesy of coming to our doorstep to fight. Naysayers see it as invasion. I see it as 'lazy pvp'ers heaven'. ____________________________

ok.. i'm missing something... if g/iron are strong enuff to take an area in the south and wish to do so.. why should *everyone* in the south cry about it?
why "unite" to fight "the north" 100 jumps away, when the worst alternative is to fight them maybe 20 jumps away...
By George I think hes got it sort of If they are able to do that then they could persevably continue to do so as the South fractures more. The more shards the easier time they have. Hypothetically... _______________________________________________

Only option G/IRON has at the moment is to either (prepare to) attack us (BoB) or find more allies. Ofcourse they can also wait for us to attack them. |

a little clarification for this FIX vs the world crap...Asuya, Exile, Arcane Industries and a couple other friends have been roaming the Catch pipe now since August..FIX has a +2.5 standing with us since they are old friends, but we have been shooting anyone and everyone that isn't blue to us since then, to say we are doing this only to help FIX is a huge misconception, this is what we have been and will continue doing with our time, leave us out of your discussion about allies, cause that is something we def. aren't...were just here to have fun and fight...and we DO NOT FLY IN GANG WITH FIX..ffs...

actually after one or two incidents that happened due to fix maintaining different standings, it was agreed that we shouldn't (and we don't) fly mixed gangs with non-fix anymore.
"the trio" have been shooting up SA for quite a few months before fix set you to 0.0. Just because you've now decided to engage us fully and asuya are still shooting you doesn't mean they are helping us to defend our space, not directly at any rate.

first of all, who's bright idea was it to come up with the whole "North vs. South" agenda anyway? It really makes no sense in having a full out war of a lower and upper universe war if normal alliance vs. alliance lags the hell out of everything.... and people are talking region's vs. region's? Only reason its not happening is because this game isn't designed for that kind of battlefront yet. So what do some alliance's do? rage their war elsewhere. Besides, there is so much bad blood in the south it would almost be impossible to unify.... but my main question is, why would we want to unify it? I never understood it from the start, and I doubt I ever will.
lag = u lose.

Hoenestly right now with the way things area War North vs South is rather unrealistic in any mass exodus. As as stated the south is fractured with many alliances fighting. There are not enough willing to travel the long distance to the north to wage war. Even if there were we would crash the server nodes and CCP woudl be replacing more ship due to lag than we could kill. THe concept is fun, but realistically right now not obtainable.
What you will see though is this "i dont want to fly 100 jumps to fight in the north" attitude change. Well boys and girls soon enough this will not be an issue. With jumps clones now ingame and the capital ships being deployed into alliance and fleet battle, 100 jumps wars are no longer going to be an issue. You just set a jump clone to your friendly everyday motehrship and where ever it goes you can go. The new capital ships: carriers, motherships, and titans are going to allow for these huge mobile wars to take place. You will find your self in southern eve one min then in nothern eve the next.
Until the south is more unified and stable, until these lagfest fleet battles are gone, and until the capital ships are of greater quatity the large scale war "North vs. South" just isnt going to happen. Make no mistake one day it will thought ... hehe

North V south sucks tbh, if there was faster ways to travel to the area's then fine it might be fun but until CCP enable someone to capture territory properly IE deploy gate guns and all thats stuff it just wont happen.
As regards what we are doing...We are fighting the lag like everyone else and its winning as normal

the south needs to finish fighting it out and let the old disuptes finally be settled then the south will be scary to deal with. things like the SA vs Fix thing will never be over till one of the sides dies, since niether side will ever trust the other.

Ok folks im going to sum up this thread - simple Game sucks big time without targets. who gives a crap who is in what alliance or Merc corp or north or south. Lets all just pvp kill or be killed and try to enjoy the game like it was ment to be!!!
If CCP will fix the LAG Monster than maybe just maybe we can get back to claiming space and trying to break down alliance claimed space. Till then lets just kill or be killed and go after all the carebears npcing or mining or hauling hehehe....

Agree with Zhon. Once the lag is removed, and maybe some simple tweaks to the jump clone factor combining with motherships, and a determind alliance can wage war across the north v south border.
But yes its a lot of effort, which most alliances prob wont want to concern themselves with.
In meantime it will take those with force and stability to unite those without, if they see the benefits of it. While those with individual disputes can wage their wars against each other, closer to home than north/south wars.

The main reason the North seems so unified is to self interest. We have enemies in common. Virtually every Northern alliance dislikes .5, ASCN and Bob. Xelas alliance was kicked out of the north for being too friendly with Bob.
This all predates the SA/SE civil war caused Boofer believes all the bad blood. Trust me while the Stain civil war made all the forum posts no one up here was quaking in their booties worrying about stain coming north. Boofer being an integral part of Stain for so long sees things from his perspective.
I think the south has problems because of boredom. There weren't any big wars going on down south so you guys started shooting each other instead. Up here we skirmish with .5 every day. Bob is in Syndicate, Outer Ring and Pure Blind. The Northern Alliances have external threats in our face every day. And there'll be some level of cooperation amongst all the powers of the north I think until these threats fade. Anyway my two cents. And I didn't even call ASCN traitors once! I'm so proud of myself.

I agree in part. The North most definatly has unified due to common enemies. The bad blood I meantioned however... I was refering to the current situation in the South and not Im afraid the stabilisation of the North. I have to agree that my main focus has always been toward the Stain/FIX/ASCN areas as that is my old stomping ground. As for the North Vs South thing I agree it is a pain in the arse to go all that way but the way it is going its coming to the Souths doorstep as we speak so wheter wanted or no that war is ongoing. _______________________________________________

U also prolly noticed that we havent come down to either h74 or 9cg or Fat to help fix. As they deal with u guys perfectly by them self.
And when we have killed some off u dear pilots in a2- or 3-f its becouse catch "hed - u-q" is totaly empty. And u have been not to far away. For us to l00t u.
Since we left fix, we have never botherd teaming up with annyone exept ourself. Tho i belive we had fix in same system a couple times. =). Also that during G-Iron and co where shooting u. We still shoot them as much.
We cant careless about u and what big thingys u guys got going on the alliance part. We respect our blue, fix and bob. The rest we shoot. Or get shoot by.
So if we are helping fix now becouse we doing someting we been doing for a couple times sure thingy if u want to think so.

@ Boofer -
Much has changed while you were gone. After the SA/SE split, some chose to keep the bad blood bad, and some had the honour of regaining lost friends, and some had the delight to find thier way back home. Naturally, some chose to stay in league with the enemies, which is no suprise to me, as those specific ones are the ones who always had a covert selfish goal.
My 2 cents.

I firmly believe it's because the South has had an average age increase across the board (please, North entitites don't regard this as a smack that you guys are all children, it's not.. so hear me out).
Basically the South has been going flat out since Eve started. In the passing years, its not just Eve that has grown older, it's the player base as well. Alot of our members are "old school" players that are now finishing uni, starting families, other adult-type-growing-up-experiences.
What this means is that none of us can be arsed to spend hours in game travelling to the North because any second now, the wife will storm in and have a shouting match about "that bloody game".

Any corporation that NPC's in the regions that stain Alliance claim and / or control that shoot at BoB should be considered representatives of the Stain Alliance and we should react to that accordingly?
No?

if stain alliance was sanshas nation and could ctrl who docks and who doesnt, yes.

South-North is history. CA is a history.
Why does ppl wish for past to become present? Is it because they are lazzy?
Cant they make their EVE life interesting by them self instead of asking for someone pull those days for them?
Anyone can find ppl who share same goals, talk to them, make new corp / alliance if you want and do whatever you want to do to have things the way you want them.
If you find problems, deal with them or die .
Plenty of conflicts currently...would be even more if fleet fights could be enable by lag.
Some ppl like to fight and kill those that seem anoying to them.
Others like diplomacy or politics and talks behind back so in the end they feel superior for trick they pull out on their opponents or "friends".
Its up to each and every one to find similar mind and push things togather untill their paths split.
And one more thing....since im allready in this thread and not some other , I will say this.....carebears are true evil in EVE, they pretend to be part of community/corp/alliance pretending to share global goal...but in the and all they want is to take care of their own a.s.s.
Many more PvP type of players provide sacrifices for their team mates and their corps then all those industrial/NPC creatures
there...I said it

QFT, although I don't brand industrialists as carebears as someone mining ice in barge under constant threat to get fuel for POS in order to ease the logistical load is just as valuable as someone in ship in a gang ready to fight.
What the carebears don't realise is that working as a team can give one some of the most rewarding experiences the game has to offer. ISK is just a means to an ends.
I think the south is going through a shakedown period at the moment and what will emerge will be the stronger for it. Personally I know Huzzah will be the better for it's current experiences regardless of the outcome.

I would have to disagree with this, at least as regards industrial players.
PVP is the most fun aspect of the game. What would most people rather do with their time, mine or go shoot things?
PVPers are not sacrificing anything, they are getting the most enjoyment out of the game that they can and they rely upon the industrial side of their corp or alliance to get the isk/minerals in to keep them stocked in ammo and ships.
A pvper would be making a sacrifice for his/her corp if they stopped chasing around after enemies and sat in a roid field all night tanknig a spawn for a mining op.

Yahh its hard to se once hardcore pvp'ers going from "OMGBBQYARR kill them all" to "OMGBBQYARR my baby has a bacon in its pants, bbl."
@ the FIX/Friends vs SA/Friends, tis simple. SA had friends who shoot at fix, Fix had friends who shoot at SA. Maby main difrence is that FIX friends shoved them self closer to SA home than our SA frineds. (duno dun care) And ive ony once seen FIX friendly corp deeper than 9cg (and that was cuz he was runing from mehh hehe).
@ N vs S, the problem was simply, North was alredy defending when it started, south had to try to convince the members why to go up north. Well FIX didnt bother, and RA are stuborn, so well **** hapens i guess. Then came G/Iron and spanked us real good. hihihi

Actually, this was one of the most enlightened I've read on these forums. It's absolutely true that "helping" a mate by doing PvP is hardly a sacrifice for a PvPer; it's exactly doing what they enjoy.
However, an industrial, a miner or a hauler putting his ships and accomplishments at risk because his Corp declares an Empire war is a large sacrifice.

What a bunch of crap most pvp¦ers i know is very poor compared to the guys who just npc all day or mine..
It has allways been like this the pvp¦ers is getting broke the rich miners just keep getting rich and you say they have a large sacrifice becuase they need to get in a combat ship and fight for there corp instead of just getting rich??
The fact is that is the pvp¦ers who allways fight for there corp alliance even tough they cant really afford it and once in a while the industrialist come to help, they lose a few bs goes back to there mining becuase OMG im down to 5billion

In the meantime you come back from work you get into a cruiser or something and look around for a 1v1 1v2 thing and all space around you is blue other than the brave tristans in the empire entry system... nah thats unacceptable... I thank RA for being arrogant and thus providing close by targets.

Ok I think your missing what the term sacrifice is. A sacrifice isn't doing something that you enjoy when it also happens to coinside with the group's ideals. A sacrifice is doing something you don't enjoy to further the group's ideals. An example an indy guy PvPing. and a PvPer mining.
Secondly ofc PvP'ers aren't going to be the richest players in game. This is for one PAINFULLY obvious reason your trying to kill each other's ships and that one underlying fact means that PvP'ers will lose lots of isk. While the indy person won't (unless their stupid and sell at a loss continually)

Lunas,
Get a grip. It's a game. No one is forcing either type of player to do what they do against their will. They both do it because it's what they like to do.
If PvPers wanted more isk, they would go make it. If miners wanted more shooting, they would go do it. The truth is, PvPers prefer to shoot & miners prefer to burn roids. Different strokes for different folks.
It's childish for either side to bad mouth the other; but then again, boredom brings these things out and it does spice up the forums.

The best part is all the fights are within 10 jumps of where I work out of. Can't beat that really.....well.....except for the lag which beats the hell out of everything in the game...

Think you misunderstand tbh, most southern alliances are friendly to one another, all except RA who dont show any consideration for anyone elses borders, randomly enter other alliances space and gank them there and refuse any kinda of talks with total arrogance, they have themselves seperated themselves from everyone else, hence why it is they who are the unstable factor, not everyone else.

And on topic, south was working its way towards stability of some sort with G/iron pulling out from their assault, when fix decided to make sa kos, and break the nap between the 2, how that is working out for the involved entities, i wont comment on.
Just for the records let me clarify the course of events so there's not more confusion about this "kos" thing: A CEO of a fix corp decided it would be fun to shoot alliance members and is turned out, with many of his corp not being happy with such a behaviour. The same turncoat is sheltered by an SA corp, some trespassing into fix territory and some shooting takes place, SA standing is set to neutral (0.0) by fix. SA decides to go to war, sets fix to -10 and begins to shoot fixians - that includes SA main diplomat Orc A who apparently decided that gun boat diplomacy was diplomacy as well. After approximately one week fix sets SA to kos (-10).
Bottomline it doesn't matter tho, but let's just keep the facts straight mmmkay ?

i find that hard to believe, but ether way RA is a very stable alliance as a whole. but the fact that there are so many russian members i feel does cause a few problems.
i would like to say oh well they didnt understand and its all there fault. Thats just not true tho, it just causes complications in the way that our message or peace and universal love often gets confused by our tech 2 tachions hitting your pod for 1337.3 love tokens.
ether way i wish both sides luck, however i wish my side more luck then your side cos we is the prozors

you find it hard to believe that RA, being asked for naps (the stabilizing thing and all) refused to accept them if the other party would not adapt to their standings and go to war with it's old friends? no, even if they did that multiple times? such a behaviour of "omg - we are teh uber, adapt or die" to cause aversion within other alliances that have the thing called pride, too, is that hard to believe to you, too? well, the result is here, all of those "other alliances" do have something in common now - they dislike RA badly
not for what they have done in fights or anything related, but what they have done in politics. the only stable thing in the southeast ist that there is a war going on - RA against the rest in the southeast. and they got into that situation on their own. ---------------- (\_/) (O.o) (> <) This is an alien dressed as Bunny to secretly gain world domination. |

You cannot force a "themed" war. You cannot forcefully try to recreate past glories, and the mere effort of trying dooms the venture to failure. The 2nd Great Northern War will not be known as such till well after it has reached it's climax, and any effort to recreate it forcefully will only undermine the effort.
Thus this whole North versus South thing is meaningless.

Unfortunatly in this forum in particular, what is said by one person is considered to be reflective of their entire corp or alliance, depending on their position within it. Being the SA diplomat, you're going to get the full brunt of it :)

There is 1 way to make a good N vs S war.
CCP needs to add a small region with 1 conquerable station, good ore and npcs, and about 10 entry points from various 0.0 regions about the periphery of known space.
Put everyone 20 jumps from each other instead of 50 and you'll get a lot more fights. +++
It's called "low security space" for a reason. |

I wasn't really saying that it was a sacrifice for a miner to get in a pvp ship to fight.
What I was saying was that it is no sacrifice at all for a pvp to fight on behalf of his/her alliance because THAT IS WHAT PVPERS LIKE DOING.
If they werent doing it on behalf of their alliance then they would be doing it for piracy or laughs. PVPERs are not sacrificing anything as they are doing exactly what it is that they like to do.
This would be the same as an industrialist saying they are making sacrifices by building and production rather than pvping. No, they are doing what they want to do.
I have no problem with people doing what they want, that after all i why they get involved, but I dont agree with the idea that pvpers are "sacrificing" themselves to help the industrialists or that this is some kind of chore for them.

PVPers low on cash in an op when they could be out ratting getting their isk up or miners going for a lower profit ore / ice because the alliance needs their efforst are both sacrificing themselves for the greater good. To be honest they are equally valuable as pvpers win battles and industrialists make logistics happen. Often there is overlap especially in 0.0 as the carebears who want reward without risk tend to stay in empire and so pvpers can mine and build if needed and industrialists can jump in ships to fight.
The cooperation and bonds between SA, Huzzah and KAOS is increasing all the time so it bodes well for that particular region of the south.

Get over yourselfs.
The north VS south war will come, and no alts can change that.
100 jumps? what are you guys sniffing? Last time I checked, there where jumpclones. They save your implants, and allow you to travel from an outpost in Fade, to an outhouse in esoteria, to an outhouse in catch.
Have your corp buy ISS shares for 1 bisk, and you get yourself insta-clone-jumps from South to North.
Once the titans go active, watch how 200 people's clones awaken on the far end of the universe.
See how a chain of Cryosfields light up at covert POS's, and 30 dreads leave Great Wildlands for the troubled and much much wanted areas of ehh.. providence..
100 jumps? That ain't a PvP problem at ALL. It is mainly a logistical problem, and that is mainly something like: how can I get 10 ceptorps up there ASAP?
When BOB had the IRON outhouse, what do ya people think whould happen when BOB, KOS, SA, ASCN, LV, FIVE put in theire jump-clones there, and they had a clone-jump party?
Or when G/Iron/Razor/NBSI starts a massive clone-jump into Oberon-prime station in Esoteria, where there are 500 ceptors / AF's / bombers / cruisers and 200 battleships just waiting for some real vacume around them hulls??
RANGE is not the limiting factor no more. LOGISTICS is.
The winner, will be the once with the best logistics.

Seeing how those alliances do NOT have clone-jump rights in our stations.
Or offices.
Or docking rights for that matter.
