My copy of Eve has been crashing to the desktop contantly just lately. I cant do missions without the damn thing crashing to desktop. Ive tried using the resface.stuff trick but still crashes. Come on CCP fix this problem before loads of people leave the game

Bozmech: did you leave the old resFace in the folder, like renamed or something? Delete it if it's still there.

Edited by: Jon Engel on 13/01/2006 00:23:43 Heres a solution, stop whining about stuff. The person who posted this, is simply stating a bug. The whiners i refer to are those who complain about complaining. There are alot of bugs nowadays. They are annoying. I get used to it after a while. Most if not all bugs are eventually going to be fixed. I suffer the same problems that this post was meant to address. I simply dont look a peoples character info whome I havent had in my cache. I gaurantee it will be resolved shortly. CCP is usually on top of things, and takes its problems with EVE seriously and trys to fix them in good time. Everyone f***s up once in awhile. Take a couple days off from EVE and try again, Im sure it will be fixed by then.

YEs this is a real problem. I ran into this one today heading into 0.0 with a new ship. Its hard enough to travel let alone get booted near a gate because you wanted to check the info on others in local. Please get this fixed ASAP.

Definately seems like Intel chipsets are the problem here, I have the same problems with an 'Intel 82865G Graphics Controller' (Dell again, they didn't even put an AGP or PCI-E slot in the motherboard so I can't upgrade ). Going to try some things, if I have any success I'll post what I did here.

Same problem here as well, running an Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME chipset on a NEC Versa P520 laptop. The game crashes to the desktop or crashes the system when creating character portraits in the show info view. This also happens when showing info on ships. However, this doesn't happen 100% of the time.

Same problem here, I crash whenever I click on a portrait that I dont have in cache, and whenever I show info or similar (even when I am in a gang and check another person). Also the distorting and strange effects in portraits, mainly women portraits (only seen a male character have a weird effect and it was temporary (while he was showing up in the logging up little green warning))

I have a Windows machine using a VIA Unichrome Pro IGP Graphics card...since the January 10th patch it crashes almost every 20mins in various situations. Sometimes it just closes EVE, sometimes it crashes and reboots the whole computer. I have two accounts. The other one runs on a Linux machine with a Geforce 5900. Here the crashes are also more frequent since the January 10th patch. It has also to do with character info loading, but can happen in several other situations. This really sucks. Why are new patches always breaking established stuff when it comes to EVE. If this won't be resolved in time, i have to put those 2 accounts on hold until it is fixed. There should be a refund if the game does not work as it should.

Edited by: madnight on 15/01/2006 01:10:12 god i feel better knowing im not the only one anymore. i have tryed everything, but everytime i show info instant desktop.. might get lucky and show one or 2 but thats it.. and if i dont show info on anyone the longest i make it without insta desktop is like 1/2 hr.... oh and i get that graphics driver error every now and then also the ialmdd5.dll is the intel onbaord chip set driver and i have removed it and downloaded new ones.. nothing helps. so its something within eve itself. oh and i cleared the cash in eve.. no help at all.. so i uninstalled eve and downloaded the complete thing and reinstaled and still no help at all.

I haven't tried replacing the file yet, but I switched to W buffer from Z buffer, and I don't crash. The only problem I see so far is that the client defaults back to Z buffer when I logout and login again.

Well this is the MOST unstable version of eve I've ever played. I too CTD and have a blue screen w/ a STOP reboot almost everytime I look at info on a player ingame. Also happened on bm's and mail as well. These are CRITICAL system bugs. Having spent 4 years in software Q/A, I think you need to hunt this down and patch immediately. The folks posting here are only the ones that managed to find it on the boards.. figure 100 for every one here and that's the scope. Now I know CCP has a huge rep for indifference and lack of feedback for issues, but this one is going to hit your pocketbook bigtime. At least let's get a dev or rep on this topic and give us a nice hand *** so we can feel better about this and some idea when it's going to get fixed.
