After reading the gold magnate thread i came up with this idea...
For these kind of ships to truly have a value to the player base, they should be publically viewable (for some isk). The opening of a public EVE museum would be quite the attracktion would it not?
So it's my suggestion to open up the first ever public EVE museum!
In this deadspace museum all unique (or very rare) ships should be stored, publically viewable IN SPACE.
The ships would be protected by a field around them so they cannot be boarded or bumped out of place. I suggest a field because it adds a bit to the eye candy. Instead of just anchoring them in space or whatever.
There should be an admitance fee for entry! It shouldn't be dirt cheap. This is a unique attracktion after all. I'd say the price for admittance would be atleast 5 mil. Once you pay this toll the accelaration gate would activate and you'd be transported inside.
The complex should be located somewhere in a central hub so it's on equal traveling distance from everyone give or take.
The ships in this complex should be from donations by the players. In return for their generous donations they will get a share of the entry fee's payed by people to view the museum. This way they make some kind of long term profit instead of just selling them off on the market for a one shot large price ticket. and they remain viewable to all of EVE who has the isk for the very reasonable price ticket.
Optionally the ships should also have a description to them. A billboard with scrolling text on their history would be nice. Telling the stories on how these ships entered the EVE universe. Who fought in what against who in what, in which event, when it took place etc. And perhaps a picture of the original owner of the ship.
There should be only one of each type ofcourse. For some ships this won't be a problem since they are unique, for others well. Whoever sets up his ship for donation first get's it in the museum and has his wallet boosted from admittance tickets.
Personally i'd love to see something like this. Not only does it keep the legend fresh in everyone's minds, it also gives new player an opertunity to see all the unique ships and read their history in an easy to acces place. The owners of the ships are awarded by a very steady and generous income for their donation! (if there 5 ships in the museum and each of the donators gets an equal split of the fees then it take sjust 1000 people viewin the museum to gather a billion isk for each donator. And imho alot more then 1000 people will coem to see it) And it's a major attracktion i the EVE universe. An actual landmark that portrais an actual happening in the EVE universe that had player interaction involved.
I thing this would be a great landmark for the EVE universe and i don't think it would be all that hard to realize for the devs, since most of the technologies to make it are already in game (complex, billboards, etc). The only unique new thing needed to realize it is the protective field that keeps the ships in place, but i'm sure CCP devs can come up with something easily coded to realize this.
Should this ever come true (a far strech of a dream, i know). There would ofcourse be the issue of lag when loads of people stream to this new eye candy in EVE. But i think over time this will decrease as less people travel to see it and it becomes more of a steady in and out flow.
So, what's your view on this? Should EVE have something like this? |

So you're saying that we should take the coolest ships in EVE, and lock them up in a deadspace complex?
This doesn't achieve ANYTHING that posting JPEGs wouldn't achieve. -------------------------------------[04:04:04] Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk

Yah that's what i am basically saying. Alternativly it could have replicas instead of the originals... but you get the basic idea i'm sure. Just bringing a little EVE history to the public eye |

Edited by: Golerre Evraun on 11/01/2006 10:29:16 I think it would be cool, I would think that the owners of these ships don't take them out and about very often anyway due to the lag, so why not give them the oppurtunity to showcase what they have earned and pick up some cash in the process.

and ya, posting jpegs is nice and all but, there is a difference. ---------------------------------------- If you ain't dyin, You Ain't tryin. |

Actually it DOES. It achieves that these ships remain in existance instead of being blown up in some random, far from spectacular (other then that ship being present and ganked) fight.
Years later someone new joins the game and after a while actually realizes that unique ships are in the game... WOW, nice. Where are they? What's the story behind them etc? Oh yeah, got blown up in some gank, yah it's a real legend haven't you heard? You haven't?! Oh right that's cause there is nothing to tell other than "gold magnate is primairy *boom*". Right yah it was a reward to some event couple years ago.. and stuff... REALLY legendairy stuff, that's prolly why you haven't heard from it and had to come into the forums and make a post about it just to find out it got ganked in some random fight ;-). |

I'm all for this.. I dunno about entry fees and all of that.. just simply an area for you to go and see some of these big ships.
It would help with the atmosphere and social aspect of this game. A central meeting point? EnB had lots of areas like this and really, it added quite a bit to the game.
We have lots of ships in the game, pretty much one to fit every role, some other areas of the game can be worked on now, like.. improving the atmosphere? :D
There should be a section for each race, maybe in their own parts of space.. right clicking on the object and showing the info will give a short history, when it was introduced in the game, roughly how much of a percentage these kinda ships make up in the game, some RP kind of history for how it started..

if the ships are destroyed perhaps post a piccy of them chooseable via the ingame browser - or perhaps do a new event related to one of the empires and offer a new one up (or a slight variant using some of the new modules ?) one time pirate ship perhaps Im a happy little camper now - CCP 4tw. |

Edited by: Krxon Blade on 11/01/2006 11:35:33 Signed. In the middle of EVE universe - deadspace gate to enter, one deadspace gate for each race part, near every ship should be kiosk with all relevant ship data. GuestBook? Museum could contain all ships, modules, and best ship commanders board...
And of course, there should be resonable museum fee, another ISK sink for devs :)

"piccy" -> "pic" -> "picture"
i agree that this could be a good idea tho again, i dont agree in charging, and i dont think that it should be player donated ships, some story that what you can see in these area's are holograms or dud models and not 1 of the few in existance etc..

For example, the Gold Magnate's sign could tell about the story of the Gold Magnate, and where it came from, who it was sold to, and how it was destroyed. -- Proud member of the [23].

I'm all for adding stuff that en-riches the eve universe. Something like an eve museum would be good imho - maybe not for vets who probably couldn't care a less, but new players would find such things interesting.
Getting the owners of such rare ships to release them to a museum is another thing though. Maybe they could have a contract that allows the owners to release their rare ships for set periods in exchange for a percentage of what the museum makes... or just use replica's instead? I'm sure there's a few rare ships in-game just gathering dust in a hanger somewhere that could be used.
I've got a Blackbird fitted with Torpedo's that I'm not allowed to use anymore - not sure if that counts though

stick them on a seperate section of the testserver where u can actually fly them, so atleast everybody can have the opportunity to fly around in them atleast once.
Allthough i love this game, don't get me wrong, the idea that a lot of content is out of reach for most players is bugging me a bit lately .
Look at the titans for instance? i'm sorry but imo i don't think we will see more then a handfull of these things flying around, worse still i don't even think most will see it flying around at all, unless the alliance that gets one parades it around close to empire. (which i don't think will happen)

Well replicas, duds, originals, fee's, no fee's... whatever.
The point is to have them in space somewhere, viewable in 3d space with a little history about them included. That way people who are interested in this sort of stuff can visit a place to find out about them. Instead of coming on the forums to find about them. In most cases the information is limited to 'it got ganked'.
If an age old, pointless, out of commission EVE gate featured in a story somewhere has a place in space eligible to be dubbed the term 'landmark' then really, EVE history made by the player base SHOULD have a place as well. Heck, player generated EVE history deserves more of a place in the EVE universe then the back-story does imho! Since that is what actually made EVE what it is today.
EVE is now beginning to be old enough to actually have a history. Would be nice if there was viewable evidence in the EVE universe as a testament to it. |

This is a REALLY good idea.
I see it in 2 forms either a deadspace complex you can fly too in 1.0 concord space.
OR.......
Create a special eve museum station which is arched shaped within the arch are the exibits 'attached' to the arches ribs. You fly in using say a shuttle and have a look inside the museam can be a gift shop
[last bit was a joke]
Seriously tho i do like the idea of having interactive structures like the ribbed station. -----------------------------------------------
