After a hellish night of patching third party program on my Ati Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP which prove to be unstable (I got several lock ups, flickering screens, and three time blue screen of death!). And reverting back to my old settings.

I am having this problem with my ATI Mobility Radeon XP 200m. The strange thing is that it is happening to only one of my characters. I can use a different character of the same account without problem (although it is one jump away). But CCP has moved my problem character to different solarsystem and I still have the same problem. |

This thread really needs to be a sticky, as it seems to be solving 95% of the problems with the latest patch.

Ok im not realy all that computer literate so ive tried all these things and cant figure out what to do here. Has ccp even addressed this problem? If someone has some ideas let me know what might work, because the game is unplayable for me now.

Have people been reporting this? If not they need to. I know they wont really do much but give you the autoresponse and all,but its important that everyone who has this problem report it so they understand how widespread it is.

Dear Rantor,
Thanks for your "fix".
At first hand, it did not work really for me, just reduced the frequency of the crashes. I used to have a game crash, followed by a fuzzy looping sound then auto-reboot of my PC almost each time I entered combat with pirates, mainly in deadspaces. At the very moment when pirates lock me with this peculiar beep sound.
I followed this thread and realized I had let the resFace.stuff old renamed old file in the same folder as Eve, so I moved it to another place. And I switched my ATI drivers from 5.13 Catalysts to the last 5.12 Omega for my Radeon 9800 pro. But I still had a few crashes (with no more auto-reboot as I switched off this feature with the admin tools in XP) then a blue screen.
I suspected it could also be related to sound, cause crashes almost always occured when you hear the beeps made by the pirates targetting you. As suggested on another thread, I decided to disable the hardware acceleration for the soundcard, cause I also had those annoying glitches and *****ling sounds when firing missiles and drones.
And it seems to work, finally! I still crosses fingers, but it seems your solution worked for me too. Just need say to the 5% people like me who still had this bug after trying Rantor's procedure to try disabling hardware acceleration for their soundcards. It also fixed the *****ling sounds :) Yet, once in a while, a missile can be fired silently, but that's not a big issue.
Best regards,
Eolynn.

Hm... seems like I've found a Dev's post connected to our problem. Dev's are playing with our faces now, so no wonder they have accidentially broken the face generation routine on some video cards.
This also explains why rollbacking the resFace.stuff file helps to temporary resolve video issues...

I am downloading your rolled back resFace now rantor fingers crossed.
But to everyone who reads this this is a 'fix' for the problem but in ccp's eyes its a 'rollback' not a 'fix' which would probly be why they have stayed quiet about it, please keep that in mind guys.
again gratz on finding this out rantor

This works, as everybody kinda knows but I just wanted to point out that you actually have to remove the old resFace.stuff file from the EVE directory. You cannot simply rename it and then copy in the down rev version.
If you don't remove the 3805 version and simply rename it to 3805.resFace.stuff ... Eve client will not start and say something like "I have issues :/"

Thanks for this extra useful information, will now add it to initial post.

Absolutely fantastic m8,
I have been freaking out for a few days without EvE and messed about and finally got it to work. I dont have the pictures of the characters but thats the least of my worries. Thats again m8 for helping me get back on.
Take care, Gram

Whoever suggested moving the copy of the file out of the eve folder, thank you! The strange startup error is now gone, and i can once again play, although loading portraits seems to take forever, I thank the original poster and the one who made the above suggestion wholeheartedly.

I have a VIA Unigraphics Pro IGP Graphics card on a laptop which i bought to play EVE on the road. Since the January 10th patch i have a lot of crashes. I will try this fix now.
Why gets established stuff always broken after a patch session...i don't know...can't your for instance test if the player on/off-status works before you release a patch?
My guess is that when Kali comes out, we can throw out our notebooks anyway and buy new machines.
Also that there is no official word yet from CCP is annoying. I have a 2nd account running on Linux which also has a few hiccups now and then after the January 10th patch.
I hope this will fix it too.

Nice to know you can all have your little faces again :)
Naturally I assume this does nothing to address the real blank screen crash issues that many have been experiencing since well into last year or even longer? ie. those that have been experiencing the same frequency of crashes before, during and after version 3796
ps. yes of course I have disabled my soundcard and ingame sound and my drivers are up to date, and no my processor and GPU are not overheating.. |

Definitely it does nothing to address the real cause of the problems we have with EVE. It's just a replacement of resFace.stuff file from 3805 back to 3796 version which happens to remove notebook user's problem that came to us after 10th of January.
