...I and many other Australian (and Kiwi) gamers with PS3s and a pre-downloaded pre-ordered version of GTA 5 will be vanishing from EVE Online into the abyss of consequence-free sociopathic gaming. Many others in Australia (and Kiwiland) will be lining up (some in the rain, especially on the east coast) for midnight launches to grab their pre-ordered hard copies for either PS3 and Xbox 360.
We may be gone awhile.
But remember, though EVE's population may fall for now, it will rise again as we wipe the tears of joy from our eyes, take our first showers in weeks and remember, that once upon a time, we had a wardec to tend to.

I'm logging back on now for at least another two and a half hours.

Oh I have been playing it non-stop since Friday.
It is a fantastic game and improves on just about everything from IV.

Actually, there is a purpose to this post beyond what I am doing for the next few days. It has to do with the population, and the inevitable "EVE is dying" threads soon to come just because a large portion of it will be playing GTA 5. Way to miss the point.

I have no idea what you are trying to say in that first attempt at a sentence. As for the second, no, again you miss my point. I'm not going anywhere, I'll probably be back on a few times during the course of playing, but I will not be leaving EVE.

That wasn't what I said though. The point is, if the EVE population drops, it's probably due to people playing GTA 5. You do realise how popular GTA is, right? And not Justin Bieber popular, but quality popular, like jeans and The Beatles. So you can pretty much count on a population drop, even if it's an intermittent one, or even a small one, but someone will notice, and start an "EVE is dying" thread, just like when Mass Effect 3 launched and everyone was off playing that, except GTA is even more popular than ME.
It's not pretentious to state the likely outcome of a scenario given an educated guess of the factors involved.

If you only consider only one factor, the outcome is not likely, is obvious. Considering GTA 5 the factor determining a hypotetical decrease of the EVE population doesn-¦t seem an educated guess to me.
Not only that. Even if there is a decrease in the EVE population in the next days, pretending you predicted the cause is pretentious.

I won't get the game myself, but already told the mentikned friend that i *will*
come to his place to see how i can blow things up and cause desaster.

Oh come on, you're just being cynical now and LOOKING for something to complain about. If there IS a decrease in the EVE population, then I'm not pretending to have predicted it, am I. I actually predicted it. And if you use your noggin, it's really not that hard to predict. Seriously, I'm not even pretending to be ultra cool or smart for predicting a decrease in EVE's population, I'm just heading off the expected "EVE is dying" threads if that is the case, and if it does happen right on GTA5's release date, how much do you want to bet, right here right now, that GTA5 is the cause? Honestly, you either don't get that or you're just looking for something to complain about. Neither case is my problem.
The point is, any decrease in EVE's population AS A RESULT of GTA 5 is not as a result of a game that is dying. That's my point, and my only point. Stop hating, go have a beer and chill out, man.
