I'm a newbie manufacturer with a few T1 products under my belt. I've picked up some Raven BPCs to try and turn a profit; with average regional mineral selling prices I think I can make 5-10 million, or about 10-15 million with buy orders per ship.
Buy orders seem the right way to go (a little patience gives more profit ) but I think I haven't quite mastered the correct place to put them. I set up a buy order for a large quantity of Zydrine (7094 at 3700ISK) in a quiet corner system of Lonetrek; two weeks later, I'd only received 160, despite being the best price/quantity offer in the region.
I guess my positioning is wrong, so where is the right place to put mineral buy orders? Closer to the low sec systems where they are mined, or in the heavily contended trade hubs? Remote trading is a skill I should probably learn...
(and what's the best way to find where these minerals are mined? fly around high/low sec borders?)

Edited by: Andrue on 12/01/2006 19:31:48 Buy orders that aren't at major trading hubs are only likely to be fullfilled if the region they are placed in supplies the requisite ores. Since Zydrine is not available from any Empire ore you are reliant upon someone bringing it up from 0.0
People doing that are unlikely to stop off at some back-end-of-beyond systems to sell a few mil here and there. They will take it to a trading hub and sell the lot for big bucks. Maximum profit, minimum effort.
Conversely placing buy orders for locally mineable minerals is a good idea in backwater systems because miners are often prepared to sell at a reduced price in exchange for not having to haul mins long distances.
Edit:Reading between the lines you might see a trading opportunity here. One does exist but it depends on there being a reasonably lively manufacturing facility out in the boondocks. Those people might actualy pay over the odds for some other mug to attempt the risky hauling of high-value mins away from the hubs. -- (Battle hardened miner)

Sigma,
the whole trading thing is of course subject to extreme secrecy and insider knowledge. No good trader is very likely to tell you his favorite buying places.
But I want to add a few points of view:

Of course Zydrine IS available from Empire Ore: Jaspet now has it in minimal quantities, and Hedbergite is a very good Zydrine supplier found in belts up to 0.2. I'd rather not try picking that up in anything but a fast hauler or you may end up buying the same Zydrine twice along with new ship, new clone etc. Could be you were referring to safe space Empire however.
And you forgot to mention recycling loot. Personally I believe hoping for someone to sell lvl 4 rogue drone mission refines to you is a bit optimistic, since they would largely have their own preferred producers, but regular loot from belt rats works fine. In minimal doses. Which is what you're probably getting down there in the back waters. Maybe try a more populated area?

But they are also lazy. You have to catch them on the way to their hubs and offer a price just slightly lower than the hubs. I have two such systems which give me the occasional batch of 3000 Zydrine or Megacyte, and it's always like birthday.

Are there any web sites that have a comprehensive listing of buy orders? There's nothing more boring than flying through a half-dozen nearby regions seeing who has a decent price.

Place your buy order(s) in a system with some good agents and many people doing missions. Most just recycle the loot except of a few good modules they put up for sale and sell the minerals.

Make your Buy order -Region- based soo anyone in the region can sell you the mineral. Sure that means you pick it up and haul to your factory but thats the solution you asked for. -------------------------- Qoute: The single reason I even decided to give this game a shot was because of reading a post by a n00b crying about being ganked and losing everything. I just had to try |

And let us not forget that Zydrine prices have seriously spiked at the moment....
If you are actually able to buy Zyd' at those prices - then good on you!

zydine prices are on the rise - i guess some of the new modules and such are reasonsible for increased demand - but yes region wide if youre prepared to haul using a fast frig is best. Either that or find someone paying up to 4000 per unit sell any u have to them then head to empire buy much cheaper haul back out rinse and repeat (cross region buying and selling is a great ISK earner) u can then afford to put a bigger region wide buy order at 3000 and wait for small drabs to roll in.
or find a unused drone complex (easier said then done) or barring that mission hubs as suggested or NPCing. U can train up assult frig and t2 small lasers or railgusn head for 0.0 and play with some of the fun rats - they drop good loot u can bring back to low sec and refine Im a happy little camper now - CCP 4tw. |

In a back water system you are most likely to only pickup people melting random rat drops so you will get a very slow trickle of minerals but at a good price. As someone suggested you can do a region buy order which will pickup more of those kind of sells but then you have to pick it all up which is a lot of work.
Most miners like me if they are mining for ISK will haul to a hub system, Rens, Amarr etc etc and sell there because there is huge competition for all types of mins so it's worth a 10-20 jumps to get there with you packed hauler.
Trying to setup buy orders in a hub system is also a nightmare. You generally set it up and find 5 minutes later somone has an order in above yours. This is good for sellers but bad for you, espically if you don't have time to sit there keeping your buy order valid.
If your serious about seting up in back water you need to make a home station and pack it with good buy orders for all minerals in large amounts. People like me will spot that given time and start hauling to your station. We will also stock up on all your manafactured goods to take back to our base or may even setup camp in your system and sell direct to you.
Good luck :) - Rule one of eve club, don't talk about eve club Rule two of eve club....*click* |
