Why have so many people got a better sig than me? Because I tried to design my own, while others got one of the great forum artists to do theirs.
So, here's the remedy; 120 million ISK of prizes for the best in sig design.
Prizes
- 1st Place: 60 million ISK
- 2nd Place: 40 million ISK
- 3rd Place: 20 million ISK
Competition Terms
- Closing Date/Time: Saturday 28 January 2006, 21:00 GMT
- Character RP Themes: Wealthy, ruthless, killer business acumen, mob-style kingpin with sanitized corporate front image, true Caldari
- Form: MUST meet forum size and filesize regulations. Less than max height preferable for a modern look, or a non-rectangle design with straight edges or other original layout.
- Style: Any - but artistic quality, originality, character interpretation and purposeful message are what I'll look for most
- Mandatory Elements:
- Name: Tommy Ten Kreds (note spacing)
- Either
Corp Tag: A-MEX or Corp Name: Animal Mercantile Executive
- All entries will be judged by me and prizes awarded on my determination.
- Artists are welcome to enter multiple signatures, but each artist may only win one of the three prizes.
- Following the competition, I will be entitled to finished versions of the three prize-winning signatures, for my own forum use. Prizes will be distributed as soon as these are received by me.
- I reserve the right to close the competition at any time, if I feel that there is insufficient interest or quality of entries to justify the level of prizes on offer. (I promise to exercise discretion and will only do this if I feel it is absolutely justified
).
So, what are you waiting for? Let's see what you're made of.
From my bio:
Ten Kred Tommy (aka Tommy Ten Kreds) has a reputation for being a bit of a villain. His moniker is rumoured to have started with a small gambling debt, an old friend once owed to him.
His friend had argued that such a small sum could be overlooked, between friends. Tommy "persuaded" him otherwise and the name stuck.
Tommy's view of business is this; "It's all about supply and demand. I supplied you what you wanted, so don't make me have to come around demanding my money."

Hmm...that's a hard one. I gave it one quick try (I'll see if I can make more later, but I'm a little busy now). There's actually a picture of a casino in the background, even though you can barely see it. Made 2 versions of it, with different text styles.
Version 1
Version 2
Enjoy, and good luck to all other partisipants (yeeah yeah. Spelled it wrong )

Meh, depends on what you think as a full image.... I mean, it's not cut in half
But ok, then. I stand corrected. Now, who's funding this poor viking's prophecy by buying my signatures?
well?

Edited by: Ankenor Tackses on 13/01/2006 22:55:51 Hey, just so that you know there is interest, I am working on sig. I don't want to say I am new at sig making because I used to make sigs for people on Star Wars Galaxies, however this is my first sig contest in EVE. Sorry no linkage yet... don't want to show until I am satisfied with it. ------------------------- ------------------------- I be a pirate in real life... thats why I like to role play a pirate hunter in game. |

Thanks Ankenor, I look forward to seeing your work.
For the record, there is no danger now that I will close the comp for lack of interest. So take your time and just make sure your entry is in by the closing date.

Scrammer, could you try exporting your sig as a GIF file? I can see a lot of JPEG artifacts in the background.

Heres my entry, best quality i could get with the compression required due to the very silly 24000 bytes limit.

Here's mine.
The CC is supposed to represent that money/business side of you, whilst the gun is for that killer side of you as well. The cigarette represents the ruthlessness, or the mob kingpin you're looking for.
The credit card is all custom done and actually took me a while to do. Here's the full pic of the CC
I don't expect my entry to be final, because you have stated that you don't want it to be rectangular, I just wanted to get out my basic idea to see if you would accept it or agree with it so I could continue.

note: this hasnt been fully compressed yet so it'll lose a bit of quality but should be fine. Hope you like it, was quite fun to make

Wow! There's some really great work being produced here.
I'm going to resist commenting on entries individually because I don't think that would be fair to all entrants, until the competition comes to an end.
But I love the ideas some of you have come up with.
Originally by: jbob2000 I don't expect my entry to be final, because you have stated that you don't want it to be rectangular..
I didn't specify that they shouldn't be rectangular, as it goes. I will just rate more original shapes and layouts (where done appropriately) more highly for that aspect of their design.

I had to increase the compression in order to meet the 24,000 bytes limit. I'll see what exporting to GIF does.
*edit*
Here's the GIF version. (whoops...forgot to fix the dithering! Reposted)

well my kind of sig contest is one where a theme is given to stick to and people use photoshop brushes, smudging etc to create their sig instead of getting some pics blending them together a bit and the adding text and some tech lines.
but anyway my entry the name taffy is there simply as anti-rip it will be removed if i win or u want to use it.

I agree that there should be more to sig creation than cutting and pasting pics. Moreover, I didn't specify the techniques artists should use to create their sigs at all.
In fact, the higher the quality of the artwork, the more likely an entry is to win a prize, although other factors are important too, as I mentioned in the terms.

i was only saying that most people who make sigs do that kind of thing (not everyone) and that just the fact of it being on the eve forums means that most of the entries will automaticaly be like that but i enjoy my sigs so i post them up even tho they are alot different from what other people produce but i won't argue over the point.
good luck everyone and have fun

Cards are to relate to your early debuts, and the cross-hair that you're a nifty killer :) Black-and-white was used to contrast darkness/killing (red crosshair).

Ok, I've got a little problem. I know nothing about compression ect. but I don't see any options for compression when saving it as a gif. as a result, this one is 26000B. I'll try to make it smaller, but anyway. Here it is: Linkage
