I must admit saw and saw2 were really good but not scary scary horror making you jump and get all scared over and after watching em keep thinking about it.
If you want that, 28 days later

The Alien Quadrilogy, believable unlike most other films involving aliens.
The House on Haunted Hill, nice twisted film, went to see it 3 times at the cinema.
Saw 1+2, i just loved the style, wide open for a 3rd film but i doubt it will be as good for obvious reasons.
Nightmare on Elm Street, 9,10 never sleep again...

Well i would have to say the best horror film would be The Shining (Kubrick of course), but i absolutely adore the Night of the Living Dead trilogy (originals).

Also Signs (ONLY the few seconds of the news report when the alien walks into view... scared the complete c**p out of me in the cinema). Rest of the movie is a laugh though. -----------------------------------------

Without doubt The Thing First time i saw it I was flicking through the channels and the very first thing i saw of the movie was the dog scene, lmao. Scared me shi*less whilst barfing up simultaneously. The movie is a classic, shows how you don't need all these superfluous SFX that are virtually everywhere these days. Also there's none of that screaming women running though the woods crap.

I really liked Final Destination, but its only scary the first time you watch it. Other than that, not much can compare with The Ring (Original), Se7en and Identity.
Those daft horror things with zombies and ghosts are generally just a bit of a joke.

This is my favorite and would be my "best horror...": Romero's Zombie (title may be Dawn of the Dead depending on country).
But I got some nice others in mind : -Bad Taste -Brain Dead -Cannibal Holocaust -Shocker -Audition -Event Horizon -Wes Craven's The People Under the Stairs -Angel Heart -Killer clowns from outer space -The Last House on the Left -Bambi and Bambi 2: evil deer comes back
Edit: and maybe in 3 months we will add Silent Hill, looks nice damn, trailer is sexy

Critters is such a good B-horror movie. (I love the scene where two critters are at the front door to the house talking. And the door kracks open and the barrel of a shotgun pokes out. Next thing you see is a critter explode. The other critter looks over where his buddy was standing just seconds before and says "Fu**!!!" then rolls into a ball and hauls ass off the porch. Thats such a great scene, gets a laugh outta me every time.)

Not really a horror flick, but the progression from happyhappy The Land Before Time dinosaurs to awesome bone-crunching Jurrasic Park dinosaurs was pretty steep.
The first flick to make me go "omg :(" was probably Children of the Corn... saw some of it it when I was around 5 or 6... convinced myself that it's all fake, though.

Ring was pretty scary. What scared me so bad was my ******* phone rang after the movie was over.
I dont know if I'll see the Silent Hill movie. The game scares me enough that I dont play it. _______________________________________________

How can the ring be scary when you have the see that video to be cursed? Personally i think The ring is rather boring, nothing scary happens in it. Mayve when she crawls out of the tv in the end is creepy but not scary. I've seen the american version and half the japanese version(got bored) and i can't understand what is so scary.

Scariest stuff has got to be The Ring (Yes, the japanese version, of course). I was watching the film at home, alone, just around sunset. Made it 30 mins into the film and thought "...uhh...nope. Let's not, and say we did". Saw it later that evening with a friend.
Yea. It scared the hell out of me.
As for eerie stuff but not downright scary, I'd say Event Horizon is one damn fine film at that. Now, why can't EVE be more like that ;)
IT has got to be mentioned as well. That one's nasty. Especially if you're watching it before you reach the teens, then it's iffy.
28 Days Later is a pretty wicked movie as well, has some good shock scenes, and a rather gripping story. Course, it kind of wanders off track towards the end, but it's still good.
And finally, although not technically a horror film, Last Night. That one is deeply unsettling. That's more of existential angst than all out horror, but it definately made me feel weird inside after having seen it.
