Make them like you show in the trailers!
As it stands, if a large fleet jumps through, each fleet member activating the Stargate will reset the gate effect to the start of the animation. Sometimes this results in the sounds for the gate overlapping, but the effect not appearing till the last ship activates it.
For me this doesn't make sense.
CCP: Would it be that hard to make the effects overlap, like in the dominion trailer here > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDVEHE10nHc#t=2m10s
This would look way cooler than it does at the moment, and would make more sense seeing as the sounds for the gate already overlap. I don't know anything about programming, but this is something I wouldn't have thought would be majorly difficult to implement. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though
Also, whilst I'm discussing the gate effects: what happened to the cool rotary light effect when gates are activated? Said effect used to appear whenever certain gates fired, but now it seems to sometimes appear VERY briefly AFTER jumping through a gate (if you look back at a Caldari system gate quickly after appearing in the destination system) but never whilst activating.
The effects can still be seen when previewing a gate from the show info window. Such as this screenshot I took. http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/6964/stargateh.jpg
Did they get removed by accident? they're cool!
What is everyone's thoughts on this. It's not of massive impact to the game, but attention to detail is always nice! |

Yeah. This video brings back some good memories. Sounds more like you are being dematerialized and being shot light-years across space. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vTmzNeJMkk
But I'm not really that fussed about the sounds. Sure I would like them to go back to what they were when they were epic, but I'm not really offended by the newer ones either. |

Whilst that would be epic, it would also require some pretty hefty changes to game mechanics that are not really viable for eve's gameplay. I'm trying to keep my request realistic. I had thought of this before, but like I say, too many problems with it. |

Morganta wrote:and you people with on board audio would set the forums on fire when you crash your computer every time a fleet jumps in
I'm not sure I understand. The audio wasn't what I was talking about. The audio ALREADY overlaps itself every time the gate is activated. Why would making the animation overlap once per jump make everyone's computer crash.
It's not like there is going to be an animation for EVERY ship that goes through. Just every load of ships that jump at the same time.
Feel free to clarify if I misunderstood what you were on about :)

Supergates deep in 0.0, all supergated systems have -1.0 sec status and ABCM's.
Watch them all get camped to hell or the Russians take them all so the rest of eve is left wondering what they look like!
Not sure how this is relevant... |

Perhaps let players build their own supergates to allow their big ships transportation locally without use of jump drive, allowing them to jam systems and use the supergates as a means of travel.
Hell, they could even tack on those gate guns that we were promised way back before they changed sov to "Pay rent to CCP then rent it out to others that pay rent to you" system.
Interesting. You mean like a jump bridge array at POSs but for capitals? (I don't know if jump bridge arrays can currently be used by capital ships... I'm a 0.0 n00b)

lol, someone should remix all the old eve sounds into a cool track.. that'd be.. interesting.. xD |

Okay so sounds aside does anyone have any other feedback on my idea? I want it to get noticed if you think it's a good idea! CCP? |

Always has been and always will be. -1 for messing with the gate concept. +1 for buffing the effects. Tbh I'd rather CCP spend time and resources on improving functional features than wasting time on "pretty" if it detracts from making EVE work better.
mmh agreed, but I'm sure committing one or two people to improving gate effects would not take too long.. also, things like gate activations are effects we have to see all the time, sometimes in excess of 100 times a day, it's always there, something staring us in the face all the time.
Make the mundane things we see all the time prettier! you did a good job on warp, now gates! pl0x? |

This^ some nice ideas here.. keep them coming.. I think the people responsible for this need to just go all out and make it as EPIC as they can.. CCP so often seems to make things adequate but not AWESOME.. unlike the warp effect.. that one was awesome lol |

yea that was interesting, suited jumping, but not cloaking. Cloaking is fine as it is.. this could be used, or a more awesome variant of it, for gate jumps to replace that god-aweful fish eye wormhole web jump drive effect thing they used for EVERYTHING lol |
