Ok so with the implimentation of Dreads and now Titans POS's have become sitting ducks, at least for any alliance capable to fielding such machines. The problem with the defences is that the players can not control them, meaning you could be trying to hit an intie with citidel torps or with large guns instead of having the bug guns training all firepower on the three dreads knocking at your door. There really needs to be a way for players to direct the targets of the defences, tell them who to target and when. I think this would add a huge amount to the tactical options available to the defenders and would mean the attackers would have to be more tactful in their approach of an enemies POS. This would mean no more unscrambling the dread that is going down just cause the enemy warped in a few small ships, making the EW turrets decide they want to hold the inty and let the dread flee to repair.

currently you can using the "standings change" feature.
you have to be at the pos. and dynamically changing hte standings of hte players you want targetted fo rhte sentries to agress those players.. however its an all or nothing approach. and all your weaponry will engage the last adjusted player

Complex change: Allow anchoring of POS anywhere within 10,000km of a moon. Put the warpto point in the center of the moon, and extend the secondary radius (like stations) to equal the radius of the moon*2. Some moons are small enough to circle with an interceptor.
More complex change: Adjust all scanner readouts to only show the mass of an object. Maybe let it recognize warpcore's by output type like "|Graviton| 1.5M kg|"
Even more complex change: Grant a stealth module for POS that disguises things on a scanner.
Large POS are pretty good at resisting lone Dreads at the moment. Small ones can be put into reinforced mode with a small number of BS.
Eunoia: The persistent suspicion that the universe is secretly conspiring to quietly improve your life. |

I wasn't aware of the last standing change however that seems a clumsy work around to the issue. I still really feel that a specific person or group of people with the permission should be able to direct the fire of the turrets however they desire.

Edited by: Rod Blaine on 14/01/2006 20:31:33 Allowing a fully defended large tower owner to direct and concentrate his turret fire like that would just make large towers invincible again.
Even a dread cant tank umpteen large pos turrets, siege mode or not, if all those turrets fir at only him at the same time.
What you seem to forget is that POS's never were meant to defend themselves from a full scale assault using capital ships. They were meant to be self-sufficient when defending against a normal fleet, but not against one sporting dreads.
If you want to stop dreads from taking your pos down, defend it. It's entirely possible, even without a 200 man gang as backup.
If you can't however, you'll have to accept the loss. Not easy, but maybe next time round you can negotiate so you dont become a target in the first place. _______________________________________________

If they bring 150 people, it's not possible because you'll lag out and die one by one. yay!
Warning: above post may contain traces of sarcasm. "Corpse cannot be fitted onto ship. Only hardware modules can be fitted." |
