The title kind of says it all really. Does anyone know how many years eve online will continue to exist?

Probably more so unless you get some protection too. WarpDriveActive had a few nice offers.
--*--*--*--*--*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. They got Ray Charles. |

My guess would be like this: Continue to rise until Kali and about 6 months - 1 year after that, then 1-2 more years of steady population and then will start decreasing. In about 5 years TQ will prolly have 10-15k at peak hours (90% veterans). But in about 5 years we will probably beta-test Eve 2 or "some CCP MMO secret project" _______________________________________________

Except that eve is constantly evolving. They wouldn't be afraid to do a total code rewrite if they had to. They've done it in the past (though not before the game went live).

"Runescape will only last a few more years.". 5 years on, it's going strong. It has seen a steady increase in the number of players. Everquest 1 is still going, for what that's worth. Steady server population.
I wouldn't count eve out after 5 years.

I never said Eve will be out, just that like all the other old and older MMOs out there, at some point will get to a steady numbers of "core" players. _______________________________________________

That's true but CCP are doing a good job attracting new players too. You're probably right about the core remaining but 5 years is an incredibly conservative estimate and assumes that they just sit around and let the game take care of themselves. They don't, they try to actively keep the game interesting.
Besides, I want to pod my grandchildren.

A game like eve can keep going indeffinately as far as I can see, I would like eve to go on for another decade, if not, I hope they release it as abandonware so we can keep on playing until we pop our clogs
I'm sure CCP would like to do more in life than just eve, shame really

Pann said before that it id would probably have a 7 yr shelf life, but I can see it go past that.
The graphics engine is not so important in this game as in others as eve is mostly strategy.

Maybe 3 - 5 years at best, soon as someone come out with a similar game but actualy hires real developers instead of fat beer guzzling wannabe's.

Well eve is constently evolving and so we really have to define what is eve.
Is eve the current basic server and and client software? nah, you could scrap that in its enitrety and build a completly new engine, while still retaining exactly the same gameplay, just means you have to redo every single feature.
Is eve the current game mechanics? not realy, while if the current game mechanics were completely changed all at once, to say make it into ENB on the eve engine eve would have died, the mechanics and gameplay are steadiley evolving and may end up completely different to what we have now but still be eve.
Is eve the current persistence of the gameworld? By this I mean that something you did at any time since the start of eve, has the potential to effect you through the game machanics. Basically I consider eve, eve so long as we use our present characters and items without this rolling back or reseting.

I would think that the game will evolve a lot more over the next few years, maybe the graphics will be overhauled *hint hint*.
Anyhooo, we probably won't recognise EVE in a couple of years when comparing it to todays game. Especially with plant landings etc....

Wasn't 2012 mentioned sometime as when they had the story planned out to?

eve has the most loyal playerbase of all the MMO's in existance. And that playerbase so far keeps on growing and growing. As long as ccp keep up the good work and regular updates, this game could go strong for years and years to come. As long as there is something new to discover, the game will continue to exist.
