I think the time with my Catalyst Destroyer is running out. I've been happy with it and learned a lot abt EVE and the ship - it's strengths and weaknesses. I lost it twice, once through my own stupidity, once being taken out, on a Lvl.II mission, in two hits - not very funny...
Since you guys and gals were so very helpful fitting out the Catalyst; I return and ask you:
Which cruiser do you think I should upgrade to?
I'll mainly use it for ratting and security/intilligence missions.
Despite my losses, I managed to rake around 10 mil. together, so it should be within that budget - thx

i had that choice to make and i went with the Vexor.
I choose it simply because of the extra built in cargo (for courier missions) i have made about 20 mil from that. The drone hold is large enough for a decent set of drones and the lower price of the vexor has allowed me to purchase good weapons and modules and i still have not gone above the base price of the thorax. The only down side is the slightly less cap.
For fighting, i aint lost 1 yet although i have not had a PvP yet. Skills arnt quite ready for that.

If you're going to do a lot of missions, the Vexor is a great ship. If you're not going to do many courier ones, though, the Rax is much more versatile since you can hunt and mine in it very effectively, but cargo space is a problem.

Yeah, cargo space... The Thorax looks great though; but the hold is too small for some courier missions - right now I'm flying 293 units of oxygen, too much for a Thorax. On the other hand, when I want to take it easy and fly some couriers, I could always do it in the Catalyst and do the more demanding stuff in the Thorax..
What would you ppl suggest for a fitting of a Thorax, for ratting and missions?

With the huge numbers of interceptors around these days, I'd have to say Rupture or Vexor.
Drones are such a pain to use right now. I wonder what would happen if you set positive standing to the npc faction? Maybe you could get them to behave that way, and only attack what you order them to attack.
So Rupture. You can still runaway from anything you don't outnumber.
Long range turret ships are only protected when in pairs. So if you go with a Railrax, bring a buddy if you expect trouble.

I am pretty happy with my Vexor at the moment. It makes an awesome mining Cruiser, as it gives a +10% to mining drone yeild per Cruiser level. I can fit 4 Mining Lasers to it and whatnot. Nice size cargo hold, and I can fit it well enough to operate very well ratting in 0.3 space and lvl II agent missions.
If you like using drones, this is a great Cruiser. General +10% per Cruiser level to drone damage and hitpoints as well as a good size drone bay. The drones do surprisingly well, and I'm working on the Drone skills to improve them further.

I started out with a vexor, then to a thorax and finally was actually satisfied with a celestis. The amount of medium slots are worth it imo. For weeks before I used it I was slapping myself trying to figure out, med shield booster target painter or shield hardener and in the end the celestis has survived more battles. Although seriously weak, it could take 2 bc's on at once in a .3 and 3 regular cruisers.

You're not really supposed to shield tank with Gallente ships in the first place, that's your problem -- Proud member of the [23].

Thx all it's now clear to me, that my choice is among three different cruisers - Vexor, Thorax, Celestis.
It's not an easy choice. Luckily I have some days left in my Catalyst - building skills for the cruiser - in which to mull it over.
Then comes the fitting - oh,oh...

I'd stick with a Vexor. Thorax costs a lot and isn't as versatile. -- Proud member of the [23].

I depends on what it it you wnt out of a cruiser and how soon you want it.
The poor unsung hero of the gallente cruiser class is, of course, the Exequror. This is the ship which reallly began to make my fortune. With 3 expanded cargo bays you end up with more than 1000m3 cargo space. I have sold it since, and upgraded to thorax, but I still have fond memories of mining in my Exequror. She fits enough drones to keep you safe while mining and can be converted into a rat hunter/complex runner without too much trouble. I have easily completed 3/10 deadspace complexes in her.
Basically it is the worst and the cheapest of the Gallente cruisers, but for someone on a budget and wanting to save up for a better cruiser it is ideal since it goes for about half the price of a Thorax.
It is a good mutipurpose workhorse, you could do worse than try one out. But it is not really suited to heavier combat missions.
