not only is it unplayable..but I'm not getting the service we pay for..
I've lost isk since rmr because of the lag the last week has been the worst. time for those hardware upgrades or something its really needs to be done.. because really ccp is NOT providing the service and quality in that service they've said they do sure they break records set new things but the ppl of the game suffer cause they are not truly rdy for being able to handle that many ppl .. _______________________________________________

But thats gonna take months to a year even maybe to replace all the hardware!! Don't think CCP can afford to let us wait that long before we are able to play again??
They realy need to come up with something real quick or they start losing paying subscribers fast!!

The local chats have become a lag complain channel! Corp and Alliance members logging out out of frustration because of the lag, instead of having a great time!!
Those are sad things that take place atm!! And we don't hear anything from CCP about what they gonna do about it on the short term (and thus not the planned long term hardware replacement!!)
I think they know that, and thats why they are upgrading the servers.
I aint had much lag at all.

Upgrading servers isnt that easy and something they can do within few weeks :(
You are talking about a few hundred physical servers maybe ..and not to talk about the number of switches / routers that are involved creating the Tranquility Cluster!
So this upgrade will maybe be a solution on the long term, but isn't gonna help us on the short term!! -------------- Guillight BLue [L F C] <IFC> |

Unless they put the current edition on the new server cluster with a copy of the user data for testing, then when its ready to go live they do a final update to user data and offline the old cluster.
As they are replacing all the servers in the cluster with 64bit blade servers, this is the way I would expect them to do it, which to be honest can be done in a week or so after the rig has passed the tests it needs to.

True maybe ...but according to the article in E-ON magazine they're not gonna do it that way -------------- Guillight BLue [L F C] <IFC> |

I have some experience with MMorpg. I quit Wow and City of Heroes ¦cause EVE is my kind of game, but here I found the worst lag. The only ship I lost was due to a lag nd it was very frustating.

lag is killing this game for me and many others.lag is totally random, i have lag in systems with 2 people and no lag with 100 people.
all i know it it is not fixed soon many people will leave. we pay good money to play and are not getting the service and game we pay for.

Why is it that the people with huge speeds complain the most?
I mean im on 56k that runs at only 42-46k on a good night and i lag what once every hour. What you need to do is stop downloading 20 odd things in the background close down that website and focus on eve. If you give a man a fire he will be warm for a night, Set a man on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life. |

I've had very little lag also, lost one ship to it so far (but got it back) and thats about it. I think most of the people with huge load times coming into the game have issues on their end rather then because of EVE.
Its also plainly obvious that they are working on fixing it, thats what the new server is for. Its just going to take time for them to get it and get it going, you just have to accept that. Saying they need to fix it in the next 20 minutes shows you have no grasp at all on the problem or what its going to take to fix it. You act as if they can just walk over to the server and push the "stop lagging" button and fix everything.

I don't know or claim to know why some people do not seem to be affected by the lag issues, but please do believe me when I say that it really is an issue. EVE isn't the first MMO for me and I'm used to some degree of lag at peak hours, but in this case, I am _literally_ waiting minutes just to log into my char at Renyn. It's not an exaggeration. If you hit the Login button and run a stopwatch it _will LITERALLY display MINUTES_, which makes the game literally unplayable.
Ofcourse CCP is a company and companies generally like happy customers. Happy customers = more profit, so I believe they are doing everything they can to solve it. That being said, I really do hope it will be solved soon because, as I said, when it literally takes minutes to execute a certain command, it really does render the game unplayable.
Sincerely,
your still-trying-to-log-into-Renyn-Cyrian :(

To who ever was above me. That timing should only happen once after every downtime where they've applyed a hotfix. After that it takes about 1-2 minutes to log in then the game runs smoothly. Sure its a small bump but really a game this good i can wait that extra few minutes to log on. If you give a man a fire he will be warm for a night, Set a man on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life. |

I don't have problems logging in - I do have to wait maybe a second before my pages like market and stuff load, is that the lag you are talking about? Yesterday I had to be in ourselaert and cistuvaert both known to be crowded but I didn't realy have any problems.
Sometimes my 'assets' didn't update very fast after I bought something but that's normal it says it's possibly 5mins delayed in the menu.

Edited by: Banyan Cross on 18/01/2006 11:15:08 Edited by: Banyan Cross on 18/01/2006 11:14:15 Nope the lag was v bad last night between 21:00 and 22:00. I have introduced a friend to the game and I think he wont play it again as the majority of the lag was in and around the Renyn system (the start up system). I got bakc on with my main after 22:30, it was all good again then.
I got hit by it too, my ship stopped and the system would not accept any commands so I logged out, re-booted and tried to log back in, it got stuck at the entering world prompt. So I logged on with my Alt in another star system and hey presto! I was in with no lag at all. Got bakc to use my main after 22:30, it was all good then.
Some one said, don't go to newbie systems, but if you are a newbie you have no choice. I am still on my 30 day free trail, and from what I have seen the game is awesome, BUT with the lag as it was last night, if it keeps up I don't think I will be paying for the service...
Shame as I really like the look of it. I guess I will have to go back to WOW and suffer there technical issues.
I will probably see if the new hardware sorts the problem out, I hope it does. Great game CCP, just the servers are creaking....
Thats my 2 penneth.

With all due respect :) Just because you apparantly do not experience the problems (and God am I jealous of that), does not neccisarily mean that the problems are non-existent. This loginserver-flooding-lag you speak of is only natural and if it were merely this I would never have complained. However, I had already logged in and picked my character. It hung on me when I was entering the game, which implies lag at the 'mapserver', not at the login server.

Heh, minutes? MINUTES? You're whining about MINUTES? Since the beginning of this month, in World of Warcraft, i've gotten an average of 1+ hours to log into Kil'Jaden. THAT game is unplayable. (And why i'm back over in Eve-Online)
Couple minutes, a refreshing improvement for me, though I can understand if you're not used to it, it'll bother you guys.
Actually, it takes me less than 1 minute to log into two accounts simultaneously in Eve, with average hardware, a single cable network connection, and i'm hanging around near Agil/Period Basis region.
Anyone want to verify if it's system population causing it, send a character out to Agil. See if it still happens.

It's definitely local traffic, it has nothing to do with the client. It must have something to do with the load balancing on the server cluster, hope the new cluster sorts it out.
I play WOW too, if it takes that long to log in you need to move to another realm dude...

Quick query, out of all those here posted, how many of you have lag causing bookmarks out the "ú%$^% (ie more than say 20-30 or so)?
Maybe making folders for all those BM's so your not trying to load ALL of them together, you might find that the only thing that's making you lag is the gazillion BM's that you are trying to load up.

Thanks. I have like 5 bookmarks or so only. Staying the heck away from Oursulaert/Renyn nowadays.
Also people, if you do not experience the lag or somehow do not mind it, can you please refrain from posting it. The problem is very much real. We're all very happy for you that you dont have it, but frankly I for one am getting very tired of the 'lol ther is no lag u noob lol'-attitude of some people here.
JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM, DOES NOT MEAN THAT IT DOES NOT EXIST.
Thank you.

if you really want to solve the lag problem you need to get the pople that spend there entire life in rens/jita type systems.
Its the systems with the 200+ people in them that cause the lag. Those systems are on nodes with other systems, thats why you'll find a system with 1 or 2 people in it that has insane amounts of lag.
This post does not relfect the opinions of the Ushra'Khan or any of its members.

You know what dude, I mentioned I am not having lag, to put a suggestion for a test that you could use to possibly determine why you are seeing lag in context.
Try flying out to Agil. That system is stable for me, and everyone I see in local. If you go there and it's still laggy, then it's your machine, or something between you and the server. If it's not laggy, the node you are on is overpopulated.
Go yell at someone else. I'm actually trying to help you.
