There's no reason that drones should be this dumb. Everything would be solved if they simply changed the target priority list so that it worked.
Top priority: whatever you're shooting at, closest to drones. Med Priority: Any hostile craft, closest to drones. Low Priority: Any hostiles that are far away from the drones. Lowest Priority: Crap that can't shoot back, particularly things like habs and colonies.

If CCP were to answer with my favorite three words, you'd probably still have a lot to say. These words, the words to close all discussion on matters are:
"Working as intended"
If they said that things work as they should work, would you still complain?

The only problem that I have had with drones is the Return to Bay function, and even that is solved by the previously mentioned tactics of making them Orbit before Docking...
Other then that I can say I have never really had much of a problem with drones, before or after patch.

No need to get personal, i asked a question in all fairness.
Put down the flame stick, wasn't saying "No don't fix the bugs!"

That's rediculous!
There are a number of bugs affecting drones right now and the senseless auto-targetting is a significant annoyance. Many people have spoken out against it. Even those that disagree admit they always manually choose the next target BECAUSE the auto-target logic doesn't work in any sensible manner. It would be better if the auto-targetting was simply switched off.
If the drone auto-targetting logic is 'working as intended' then it is a gross mis-feature!
Speaking as an experienced software developer having worked on 5 large commercial products, largest developing a new stock exchange no less, I wouldn't dream of smugly responding with 'working as intended' and then closing off all discussion. My company values its customers. You can learn a lot from people with many years of derivative trading.
I don't see why game developers should be any less professional. And yes I know you work in the game industry...

Should have put the "realisation" or "discussion" topic on another topic, and i do agree that the drones arn't "working as intended".
Just a hypothetical question.
Thanks for the smart reply though

Drones are, well, drones. If you do not tell them what to do, they will go off and do their own thing.
If it is too much of an issue using them, don't

First drone bug that NEEDS fixing: the docking issue. I've lost countless drones and once even a ship to this. its irritating, and there's almost no workaround except to take almost as long retrieving your drones as you're using them in a room that you cant tank forever. Second drone bug: the one that makes their speed so erratic. either always insanely fast, or slow as sh!t on a cold day, i dont care, i hate it being so unpredictable. Third, the targetting. There's a known workaround for it (gang) so it takes a backseat to the other two.
just my two isk

My pet drone hate:
Light drones which MWD around the first target at 4000m/s, shooting into space because they can't track the target.
Its just infuriating. Escpecially if that first target is an interceptor warp scrambling you, and you know the gank squad is en-route.

Originally by: Brutor Shaun I'm in the middle of a skirmish with about 25-30 targets around me, and all my drones go and attack a mining colony which, as part of my mission, I'm meant to leave alone in peace!!!
I finish the mission and leave 2 of them as I get bored waiting for them to come back!

It's like they'll automagically attack stuff you don't want them to, but 4 npc's can be pounding you and you need to explicitly tell the drones to attack your assailants. What the hey?
Drone AI is as bad as it ever was IMHO. Not only that, they don't always return to drone bay.
I feel your pain bro...

when drones were first in game they worked fine, they would only attack what was shooting you, they flew at speeds they had advertised in attributes.
now they are really bad, they will go for what they want, as long as it is not aggroed on you, then if you recall them they go slowly to the target or to the ship.
ccp talks of optimizations, but i havent seen any now for quite awhile.
fix the memory leak plz
