This is the fit I'm using at the moment.
593HP/s tank, Gun 856 DPS, 995 w/ Hammerheads. 82.3%kin, 80.1% Exp resistances.
[Maelstrom, PLEX] Gyrostabilizer II Gyrostabilizer II Gyrostabilizer II Tracking Enhancer II Internal Force Field Array I (might change for TE II? <- this reduces to 525HP/s tank)
Prototype 100MN Microwarpdrive I Shield Boost Amplifier II Explosive Deflection Field II Kinetic Deflection Field II Dread Guristas X-Large Shield Booster Heavy Capacitor Booster II, Cap Booster 800
800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L 800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L 800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L 800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L 800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L 800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L 800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L 800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L
Large Core Defense Capacitor Safeguard I Large Core Defense Capacitor Safeguard I Large Anti-Kinetic Screen Reinforcer I
Hammerhead II x5 Hobgoblin II x10
My problem? - It does fairly well on close-range waves that stay close in, but when I get waves where the Battleships fly away from me I struggle to apply my DPS (have to switch to Barrage, less dps, more time loading) and find that I take too much damage and run out of cap booster 800's & sometimes have to warp out for more, this destroys my isk/hour efficiency and how quickly I run sites.
Are there any better fits for this?
I would use a Mach, but I am space-poor and need to grind with Maelstrom first. I try not to fly anything I can't afford to lose, and I couldn't afford to lose a Mach.
My method for doing Hubs: 1) Warp to 0m 2) Rats are 50km off, fly toward central structure with MWD on 3) Stay in the middle of all the rats, taking down Cruiser/BattleCruisers first, then BSes last 4) Anchor up static where the next wave will spawn so they are @ Optimal range when they spawn 5) If rats get <17km out I switch from Hail to Barrage

If you really want that MWD, this is what you should aim for.
[Maelstrom, PLEX]
Republic Fleet Gyrostabilizer Republic Fleet Gyrostabilizer Republic Fleet Gyrostabilizer Republic Fleet Gyrostabilizer Drone Damage Amplifier II
Heavy Capacitor Booster II, Cap Booster 800 Shield Boost Amplifier II Pith A-Type Explosive Deflection Field Pith C-Type Kinetic Deflection Field Pith C-Type X-Large Shield Booster Shadow Serpentis 100MN Microwarpdrive
800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L 800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L 800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L 800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L 800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L 800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L 800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L 800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L
Large Projectile Ambit Extension II Large Projectile Ambit Extension II Large Core Defense Capacitor Safeguard II
All modules are moderate in price (for example, that A-type explo field costs 27mil), apply bling according to your wallet stats. The above will give you an angel burst tank of 1070/1666 HP/s, 1105 DPS @3+25 with hail, a barrage range of 6+50 (789DPS), bonused drones and more cap to work with. Substitute the fourth gyro with a TE when applicable. |

I used to use Mael for Hubs......i normally got 13 mill ticks.
Here is what i can recommend, DONT use a maelstrom, as you said, the range and damage application on the 30km rats is rough.
Here is what I can recommend, Macharael(prices have droped 200mill in 1 month) or a TyphoonFleetIssue. Those are 2 Minmatar hulls that I find work easily and well.
The TFI is moderatly priced. (Smartbombs will help clear frigs in the TFI and you get a full set of bouncers you can drop once smartbombs are off) |

I would start by saving isk and using Fusion. I used nearly the exact same fit when I used to live in Angel Space, minus the mwd. The Mael is glacially slow even with a mwd, so I swapped it for a tracking computer w/ optimal range script. Slow boating to the spawn point didn't really detract from my damage application as much as I thought it would, due to the TC.
Getting rid of the DC and adding another TE will help as well. Your tank will hold up fine. Shooting the thermal damage dealing rats first will ensure that (Seraphim, Cherubim). They're the ones that kite @ 40km anyway, so blowing them up sooner is a good idea. |

I would go with the above post but Republic fleet fusion. When I saw the better DPS of the other ammo on paper it was nice, when I tried it it did not save me any time in practice. I never found it to be pricey because I have LP to burn, but you may find it pricey. Eve is Real |

Isthar sentry fit i find is also pretty good these days, with 2 drone range enhancers, and one fed Federation Navy omni, and 2 drone damage amps i can reach with bouncers over 120 km while doing reasonble dps and the ability to get out fast when trouble arrives. You can also swap to a close range shield fit with berserkers as heavy drones get nice speed bonus as well |

I got rid of the the DCU for a TE, and the MWD for a TC with Optimal range script.
My damage application is better, but I'm still killing stuff hella slow. Tried using Fusion but at <20km+ I find Barrage is better, >20km Hail is better, unless it's Cruisers which I can't track, in which case I will use Fusion.
So the biggest problems for me...
1) Not killing stuff quickly, I get 10mil a tick and Seraphim/Cherubim stays alive long enough to deal enough damage so I run out of Cap Booster 800's
2) The Seraphim/Cherubim shoot through the em/therm (0%, 20%) hole in my shields dealing a lot of damage. Kill them slowly, see #1

I'm considering buying a Plex, selling it, and buying a Mach :\
I'm just killing stuff too slowly, at this rate I'd be better off running TPPH walls with WarpToMeIncursion :P |

Try switching the kin hardener for an invul, you will habe an easier game with the tank. And switch to 1200s. My brother was flying this in forsaken hubs getting 15-20mil/tick |

I ended up just getting a Mach. Getting 15-20mil ticks depending on what waves I get. Waves with frigates (not destroyers) tend to be a pain, due to having to repeatedly pull in my Warrior II's, I might just switch to disposable Warrior I's. I can do Havens in this fit, there's a few times where I have to have the Cap booster & XLSB on perma-cycle, though.
