I guess it could be argued that the recon ship is not a covert ops ship. The covert ops ship gets the bonus fron the skill. The recon ship is a cruiser that can USE a covert ops cloak so the bonus would come from the ship.
And if Wierda wants to be the 3rd person with me and someone else thats fine.

As someone who has covert ops level 5, I have to agree with this thread.
Also, the HAC/assault frig skill argument doesn't hold. Hacs and assault frigs don't use the same modules.

weirda don't have problem following the logic of doing things the way that they are... but when you train covops to 5 to have 0 tf usage (for you covops ship), and then you go to jump into something larger (force recon) - it just seem like a kick in the pants and a cheap shot to say 'no - you now have to train this other skill to 5 to use the same module that you mastered already on a different ship'.
it is a skill time sink - and that is why weirda is complaining.
it would seem that there are more then enough of those... __ Weirda Assault Ship need 4th Bonus and More!

Seems like a fair idea.

Agree, Imhotep does. Note, oddly it will be the first 2nd ship bonus set. As it is, the other ship bonus sets are always based on some skill that must be to L5 before you can even fly the ship. And thus they get pre-baked in often.
As it stands it feels like a poor attempt to add more value to Recon skill. And overall it feels odd and I feel cheated to be training a different skill for the exact same benefit!? ____ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |

SO WE TAlK ABOUT BONUSES !

(please dont mind my dev-attention-catcher(TM) in BIG letters )
Tuxford and any other helios pilots whats ur opinion on the 10% drone dmg bonus on the helios ? i think giving a 10% dmg bonus to a ship with only 5m¦ drone bay is a kinda waste. any suggestions on that matter ? (>>another 5m¦ would be great, another gunslot also!!!)
i know its not directly related to the topic but i tried to discuss this in gamedevelopment and ships&mods forums with no real dev attention so plz be nice and post rescoucefull stuff.

Originally by: Tuxford Well it kind of doesn't make sense when you consider other ships bonuses, but I do admit that it kind of makes sense that the covert ops skill gives bonuses to covert ops cloaking device
We'll give this a thought but tbh I don't think it will be changed, except we might change the bonus and give it to a new "recon ships cloaking device ii" (yes I know creative and evil and a joke btw just to be clear)
I would prefer to simply see an overview/revamp of cloaking bonuses/gear in general in the game. In addition to the oddity with this skill, the "cloaking" skill bonus itself is almost completely irrelevant at this point. (never made sense to me why you would have a nerf to lock time and then another lock time nerf on top of it employing a different system) It's been plainly demonstrated what can or cannot be done with cloaking as it stands, and most of the random ship bonuses which have been tossed out into the game reflect it.

The problem is that there needs to be some kind of ship bonus in order to prevent CovOps cloaks being fitted on every ship under the sun. CCP's made a point of not "hardwiring" modules to any one ship but rather giving restricted modules high fitting reqs and the intended ships bonuses to those fittings. Thus any "CPU reduction" bonus must be at least partially located on the ship itself.
I've suggested one way in which Covops cloak CPU reduction could be governed by a single skill on all applicable ships; the better from-scratch solution would be to make the skill-based reduction dependent on a seperate "covops cloaking" skill, but that again just screws over everyone who's trained CovOps to level 5 as they'd have to bring another skill up to 5 to get their bonus back, giving no real net gain over just training up Recon 5 too.

Edited by: Harlequinn on 19/01/2006 19:50:32 Edited by: Harlequinn on 19/01/2006 19:49:52 I dont'know.
On one hand, Harlequinn thinks it's a bit like caldari battleship skill affecting the cruise missiles, on say the stealth bomber.
On the other hand, Harlequinn thinks it very odd that a ship that uses a covert ops cloak gets absolutley no bonuses from the covert ops skill. Especially since he has taken the time to train covert ops 5.
It would make more sense to Harlequinn if the covert ops skill affected the covert ops cloak fittings, and the recon ships skill affected another aspect of the recon ships.
Another silly solution would be to rename the covert ops skill to covert ops frigate skill.
Maybe the third person can do this.
