Edited by: Dash Vey''Delan on 17/01/2006 03:34:17 Hi, I'm new to the game (Still on trial period) and I'm looking for any help I can get on a tackler set up for group PvP. Right now I'm flying a Tristan and a Rifter, and I've heard that Rifters can make great EW birds. However, I'm not sure how I should set it up for EW, can someone give me some advice?
Edit: Is there a search funciton on these boards?

Umm first of all. Get off the damn buddy account, Second if you are going to tackle use a t1 frig. Preferably something fast and 3 mid slots. That way it can afterburn to target use a 2str scramble and web all at the same time. And if you lose it, no biggie. "I don't like change, it's differnt and it's not the same." |

You can grab my setup from the post "The Merlin experiment...". It's a cheap, easy to fly tackler based on a t1 Frig. It's not 100% RTF yet, though. Still need to pop a web on it.

Wow, okay. I have no idea what you just said there. You have to remember I'm new. What's a T1 Frig? My Rifter has 3 Mid Slots, would that work?
For my mid slots I'm going to go for:
Warp Scrambler
Target Booster (I dunno someone in game said I needed this)
AB of some sort.
The thing is, I don't have room for shields, but I've seen other tacklers go with out shields too. Furthermore, why the hell do I need a Target booster? I just don't see that.
I'd much rather go for this in my Rifter:
3x Autocannons 1x NoS
1x Webber 1x Warp Scrambler 1x Micro Warp Drive (Not sure how feasible that is)
1x Armor Repair 1x Armor Plating 200m
I dunno though, I'm brand new to the game. What do you guys think of this?

You only need a sensor booster if your job are going to be catching shuttles and pods. Other than that you will do fine without it.
What I would do is ask you fleet/group commander what he needs. Sometimes he might want a very quick targeter to catch pods, other times a webber is more important.
I know how to setup all ships I fly for different purposes but before an op I always ask my group commander what he wants from my ship. A group works best if it's setup to work together.

Well for a noob you are catching on just fine. FYI a T1 ship is a Tech 1 ship. Your Rifter is a T1 frigate while a T2 (tech 2) Rifter would be a Wolf (assault frigate).
Your set up looks like it is on the right track there. I dont know anything about the Rifter as I dont fly slave ships (role playing). Your mids on a tackler are the most important thing and yours are correct. You could probably get away with an AB (afterburner) intead of the MWD (micro warp drive) if you have fitting problems. If your locking time is to slow and you find yourself missing a lot of ships then drop the web and use the sensor booster.

As the other guy said, for a new player you're catching on well.
That setup is pretty much a perfect 'standard' tackler setup (although you'll probably need to put a micro auxiliary power core in the last low slot). You might find that it's a little slow with the armour plate, and that you have cap problems when you run the MWD - fear not however, both problems will go away once you train up the cap skills (i forget the names, one gives you 5% more cap/level, the other 5% better recharge/level) and for speed you have a bunch of navigation skills to make faster and more agile.
If you're gonna jump right in as a tackler, then you probably want to train the related skills to lvl 3-4 asap so you can go have fun and get some practice in, then go train your learning skills if you plan to stick with the game for any length of time (better learning skills mean shorter training times in the future).
Good luck, and don't be too disappointed when you loose a ship or five
