That's cool. Now if they can just do something about the fat guy in the cubicle next to me who belches for two hours after eating like 10 pork buns for lunch, I'd be a happy camper.

Nice. While I don't play WoW, that makes me happy that PCG is finally looking to become a responsible publication.
I wonder if they're still being bought off for their reviews. _________ roflfest 2006 - be there

With this one paragraph:
"For the record, PC GamerÆs official stance on these types of companies is that they are despicable: not only do they brazenly break many MMOsÆ End-User License Agreements, but they all-too-often ruin legitimate playersÆ fun."
PC Gamer has gained a new subscriber. I hope that players and, more importantly, MMO Developers stand up and take notice.

I wonder if this was some sort of moral epiphany for them, or if mmorpg companies threatened to remove their advertising. I'm betting it was money that talked, not their conscience.

Yeah, well, PC Gamer has a totally different perspective on the issue, and as such is accountable to a completely different audience than developers. They can say what they want about how a group of people breaks license agreements, when they themselves have never been in a position to have to enforce one.

I so like this part:
"After months of behind-the-scenes talks with our sales department, IÆm extremely proud to announce that starting with last monthÆs issue, PC Gamer will no longer accept ads or ad dollars from Gold Farmers. Screw them."

Same with "Juggs", but that still doesn't mean it's worth buying. :)

That's not what I meant, what I mean is that they can be bought to say certain things in their magazine.
For instance "WoW gets 100%!" if Blizzard pays them lots of money.
oh and PS: how can I get in touch with you out of game to see if I can write a comic for WDA? _________ roflfest 2006 - be there

Good. Now we need Google Ads to block them. I've written them about it, I think the game companies need to pursue the search engine ads.

By the tone of the author, I would say he was prodded by his conscience, as someone who actually enjoys his job.
As for the sales dept, I can only imagine why it took "months of behind-the-scenes talks".
In somewhat related news, there is an ad for the Video Game Awards - Hosted by Samual L. Jackson. Does anyone know if he finally came clean about his penchant for Eve?

I dont think PC gamer has ever been "bought" to say 100% ever.
all boils down to the opinion of the guy doing the review.
sides , now that the vede has taken control of the editor slot there, the mag is gonna have alot more cred imho.
-I don't necessarily agree with everything I say.-

No, not 100%. But it has been in the past for high, high ratings and CHOICE awards. I don't remember what games, just that it was about 3 or 4 years ago and I quit reading it. _________ roflfest 2006 - be there

as a BAFH (b-stard admin from uh..heck)
if I was the admin, and caught you with eve on the PC, you would be fired! (how a user could install it unless the admin was clueless is beyond me)
work PC is for work. (but if they allow you to play eve while working, thats up to the company and how much they like to waste their income vs production of the employees) Ooooops, had a nice siggy, but its 14k over the size limit....<sniff, tears>

something i've noticed is that a lot of admins are when it comes to simple network security - the complex stuff is usually pinned down OK, but simple things that can be dealt with by anyone at the terminal are usually vulnerabilities

and i think this is the right way of going about it. it needs to be stopped at the buyer end, not the end of the poor bastards making the ISK. my reasons for thinking this can be found here

reading this boards i have seen loads of players who are admins themselves, and thus immune to the policing a normal employee would have to endure
i've seen a lot of em admit that they either made sure they can browse the forums or even play eve on their own pc
being a developer in a small company (~10 ppl) i have admin rights or passwords of just about everything, so i technically could install eve and play, but i think that i'd be out of a job pretty fast, even though my boss is pretty cool :P nope better to just remotely connect to my home pc and login from there (just to set skills on my lunch break, honest )
oh and yeah, isk buyers are the lamest (is that a word?) of all... time for em to understand they are ruining the game --------------------------- My opinions are my own and not nessecarily those of my corp or alliance.

But if a game company takes the reviewer out to a slap-up lunch and a lap-dancing club, it's generally accepted that they'll get a good write-up.

Edited by: Admiral Pwnflakes on 18/01/2006 12:48:26 I stopped subscribing to PC mags years ago, soon after I realised this wonderous thing called the internet could provide me with everything I could possibly need to know (well nearly) for less money.
BTW Edge is nice, used to read my mates Edge mag quite alot.
