Hi there!
i only started playing a day ago so maybe i just missed something obvious, so don't be to harsh please :P I have a question about the first industry mission in EVE. The mission objective is to deliver 999 veldspar to the agent. I already saw at a guide that normal veldspar won't work, only the veldspar from a specific quest region. So i wen't out with my venture and got the veldspar. The cargo hold of the venture isn't big enough to carry ore, but the ore cargo hold is. However i could not complete the quest, because it said i didn't mine any ore yet. I then switched the ore to the ibis' cargo hold and then completed the quest.
So i was wondering, why does it work like that? why won't they just take stuff from my ore room? or is it some bug? anyways, the next mission asks me to get tritium, wonder if the same thing will happen.

Welcome to EVE.
It's not obvious, it is a good question.
The agents can't see into the ore hold as the ore hold was added far after the agents were programmed and they did not reprogram them when they added ore holds.
That's why when you moved it to you ibis the agent could see it, alternatively you can move it to your station inventory and they will also be able to see it there. |

That makes sense i guess, and thanks for the tip. This had me puzzled for a while, especially because of the different veldspar thingy. |

The tutorials leave something to be desired but are much better than they used to be. The game is constantly evolving and the tutorials and intertwined aspects of the game sometimes out date themselves.
You figured it out even though it is obviously illogical and frustrating. Nice job. |

Maybe change the subject to something like "Agent's can't see ore hold" in case others are sharing your frustration. |

BTW it's not "different Veldspar," it's actually just regular Veld. The thing is, to complete this mission you have to mine the particular asteroid in the mission pocket to trigger completion. |

This 100%.
You did an excellent job of figuring it out. You'll go far in this game with that kind of ingenuity.

Indeed, someone else could scan you down, and mine that roid, leaving you with nothing to harvest there. You could dock up, buy 999 veldspar from the market (or mine it from a belt), and complete the mission.
As long as that asteroid in the mission pocket gets mined out, and you have 999 veldspar in your cargohold or inventory.
Similar things occur if you use cargo containers - put something needed for mission completion in a cargo container, put the cargocontainer in your station inventory or ship cargo, and the agent won't "see" it for the purposes of mission completion (I think the cargohold of ships that aren't currently active in also work like this.
The veldspar in your cargo is totally "fungible" its identical to any other. What the mission checks is that the roid in that pocket was mined. |
