Hi,
I have noticed that I am not able to get safe spots much further than say 0.6 au away from something (gate, moon, planet). Most of the time it seems to be 0.1 or under as in 85000 km from something for example. I am hitting the add bookmark in warp between A and B. I have tried doing it immediately, while warping and see that 'A' is 1+ AU au away, while watching the scanner and see the ship blip somewhere away from everything.
But whenever I go the safespot, the ship never shows up at the 'blip spot' in the middle of nowhere. So, uh, what am I missing here?
Regards,
Eudoxus

The bookmark isn't made at the point where you pressed the "Add Bookmark" button; rather, it is made when you press "Okay" on the screen that comes up following. -Wrayeth

theres now a delay when you press that button. It actually makes the spot a second or two later depending on lag.
So, press earlier. Using a slower wapring ship to make them helps too, or a pod. _______________________________________________

This is not true.
Note that when you hit the "Create Bookmark" button a set of coordinates shows up inside the window. That is where you hit the button, not when you hit OK. _________ roflfest 2006 - be there

So you believe what you see? Test it. Go to Gate A and hit warp. Then start a book mark right there... finish it when you get to Gate B by hitting ok. Then warp to the BM and see where you end up. I'll bet on you seeing something like "approach BM"

Wrayeth is indeed correct, it is when you press ok, not when you open the window

I can more than assure you that it's placed at the time you click "ok" and then add some random seconds of lag. This is SO ****ing off the last few days with the lag. I wanna cut a 60au distance in the middle (or at least shave off a few au) and I can't do **** because of the lag. The instance I hear the sonic boom (which usually gives you 2-3au distance) I hit "ok" and the bm ends up to be created .4 au away from the point where I come out of warp

Just drain your cap and make a BM while standing still in the middle of nowhere.

Well looks like I need to do some more trial and error but at least I am not the only one having some difficulty getting a good safe spot set. Thanks for the tips.

what I have done to get between jump points is drain the cap then jump. If timed right you will only warp half way to the destination. This makes for a great safe spot

Observator probes make pretty good safespots too. Fire one, scan for a friend. Book mark, repeat. Warp to each of your BMs, and note where on the system map you end up. They have such a large variance on location that it's quite possible (by doing it twice) to end up so far out of system that you don't show on any scans. -- We are recruiting

Dont know if this is true or not as i can not use scan probs, but one tecnic i have heard of is to use the scan prob with the biggest range.
Its around 15 au from what i have heard, and jsut use one, this will give you a random point in spavce 15au away that you can warp to, make ss there, and no one can find you. as there is no way to put 3 probs around you.
Providing the random point is out side the middle of the system.

This is the best way I think, I used to bust safespots long before probes & covert using a merlin setup that gave me a 1au jump very nice but I cant seem to do it so well now probes have made me lazy. _______________________________________

One would like to think in the age of warp drives, laser beams, faster than light travel that since one can use a scanner to see a simulated top down view of a system and a known distance to those points from the overview........
That we could click on a point in space and the computer to warp to it and hence let us put a book mark where ever we want on the plane of the system.
Now that indeed might give people geekgasms

Yeah, when I first got a Malediction (inteceptor) I thought it'd be great to make bookmarks with. So I hopped in, warped to a gate, hit MWD and clicked 'Create' right as I passed the sweet spot. Then I spent a few seconds thinking up a nice name for the bookmark, and typing it in all nice and pretty, finally clicked OK, and went on with my life.
When I got in my fully loaded Iteron III and went to use the bookmark, I warped... and landed 96km past the gate!!!! It's placed when you click OK. :) -- Lil Miner |

Things are not always as they appear, grasshopper. Wrayeth is right. Trust me, I've made a lot of midwarps.

The only way to make accurate gate instas is by sitting still at your sweet spot ; )
