Hey sorry if this question has been asked a million times before I'm new to this game. I'm a miner and I was wondering if using mining drones were worth using. Any comments or flaming are welcome. Thanks for helping a "noob" :)

They do add to the ore, but nowhere near the amount of ore added by new mining skills and upgrades. If you have defense, use them. ---- EVE-Central.com Coss-Region Market Browser | Obsidian Technologies, Part of the Obsidian Union Alliance

mining drons do work great depending on the kind, and skill level, totally useful imho. specially on a vexor :)
-I don't necessarily agree with everything I say.-

Edited by: Mudkest on 18/01/2006 01:45:43 270m3 for mining drone 2,s with drone interfacing4 and mining drones4, leaves you with 5 light drones for defence in a covetor(and you have drones5 allready at that point so might as well get the t2 light drones and some other drone skills at level 2-3 so theye shouldnt be that bad). 375M3 per min if you ahve drone interfacing5 and mining drones5 and use harvester mining drones, but leaves no dronespace in covetor for combat drones. roughly 20-30% increase in output for covetor, and output is a bit lower considering drones have to fly back and forth between ship and roid, so choose close asteroids for them to mine to increase output ;)
edit: and some ships add bonus to mining drone output, mostly(only?) galante ships I guess. but dont know how good those ships are at mining though -)

BlackDragon, ideally you'll want to train mining drone skill last among your mining skills. In terms of a return on investment, you don't get much in the way of added excavation capacity. I'd work toward getting strip miners and a barge before thinking about mining drones. With a medium barge or smaller, you won't have the capacity for both mining and protection drones.
Therefore, if you're going to be mining in lower-security space, I'd suggest training up combat drone skill before mining drone skills. Then, you'll be able to work on mining drone skill while you make the big jump from medium to large barge/exhumer.
Then again, if you're going to be sticking in higher-security space, it might be worthwhile to invest in mining drone skill training. It really depends on where you're going to be doing most of your mining. ----------------------------------------
