Well I had multiple characters in many of the RPGs I played. I never played these characters at the same time, but some of them existed within the same game setting as others so if I fancied a change of pace I could choose a different character for an adventure.
What I think you're suggesting is an individual who created multiple characters to then team up to defeat an adventure. Such a thing is possible, but it would then fall down to the GM to create an adventure that tasked all those characters. If, as a GM I wrote a character for just one character then thats how it would happen. If a player had wanted to run mutliple characters for a single character story, I'd have said no. My game, my rules.
This is CCPs game and its their rules. They permit players to have multiple accounts, so thats the way it is.
I have multiple accounts and characters. I only post here with my main, because I've nothing to hide and if someone wants to seek me out in game as a matter of retribution for something I said on the forums, so be it. 99% of the time, I'm online with my main.
My alts on my second account fulfil a variety of roles. Mining, trading and hauling. They are very one dimensional characters because they have very specific tasks. If I wanted to give a roleplaying justification for their existence, it could be said that they are my main's "supporting cast." In reality they are just a convenience, but they are convenience within the parameters of what CCP considers permissable. I have trained them all up to do their jobs. They are, in every sense, legitimate characters and I've still had to take the time to make them what they are.
Its a world of difference between someone choosing the convenience of buying a character and ISK off ebay. Now thats something thats damaging the game.

If alts are delt away with then so should multiple accounts. You can do more with an second and third account true. BUT where is the accountablilty? Who is to say that corp of 15 people is not one player?
I have one account and three characters, My main (this one) keeps getting off the chosen path, and sp is all over the place. But it is the one I play. The other two are low skilled characters that I will sooner or later play.
Free-form Professions, ensure no limetations on professions. Be a trader, fighter, industialist, researcher, hunter pirate or mixture of them all.

I like the idea of second accounts being cheaper than the primary. So how about:
1. Give people an option of creating new accounts and transferring their alts to them. The new accounts made via these transfers would have like three months free or something.
2. Coinciding with this, remove the ability to have multiple characters per account.
Thoughts?
Or if someone's already pitched this in the thread let me know. I'll be the first to admit I was too lazy to read a whole two pages worth of replies. :)

Okay I gotta know, what is the difference between Alts and Multiple accounts?
I do something, I log off my main and log onto my Alt BAD!!!!!! BUT if I do the same thing and log onto my other account thats fine. Thanks for clearing that up.

Opposite if you ask me. Except, of course, when you're only using the alt to scam or something. If you train skills on it and use it as a normal character, you're giving something up for your anonyminity - unified skillpoints.

Multiple accounts isn't a big problem. 2 accounts in mining is usually used for 1 miner, 1 hauler, but really if you mine with 1 account and set instas from the jet cans to your station then it won't take you much longer at the end to haul it all in. Yea, I guess it does make a difference if they have 8 accounts mining a belt in barges, but you are free to make as much ISK solo. For PVP you + 1 friend is > someone with 2 accounts. They aren't going to PVP very well trying to manage multiple clients.
As for T2 BPOs, I think the controlled number and lottery is a system that removes the aspect of a free market. Simply I think the system is dumb. If you get a good T2 BPO by random chance, you don't actually have to do anything in terms of play skill.. just joe shmoe walking along, a T2 BPO falls in his lap, and now he has the ability to print money. That is, Joe is now filthy rich in EVE for the rest of his playing time. Multiple accounts considerable raises their chance at being given these gifts from god. I hear of people with like 10 accounts just so they can research more and play t2 lottery.

I think most people can afford 15 extra euros a month. It's the fact that it's meta-gaming. You remove the consequences for your actions for a large part.
And that = teh suck.

I think alts need to be removed from forum postings. Or atleast the one that has recieved the last 24 hours of skill training should be the one that shows up on posts. Or better yet... an auto sig that says account alts.
/me will one day figure out who testy mctest is... tho I have my theories.

I wouldn't say multiple accounts are "the biggest flaw" of EVE, but I agree they're usually an annoyance for me - most of the time they are used like alts (not 'real' characters, 'tool-characters' for a main-character who then doesn't need to organize with other people, etc); they are then almost as annoying as regular alts; but they "can't" be criticized like alts can (eventually) be, since most people consider them perfectly legit because they are paid for.
which in itself shouldn't make any difference IMHO, but I've always been quite dense on this topic :s

Same reactions with instas, alts, e-bay... (no relations between topics ofc ^^ ) -> "you don't like it because you're jealous, shut up and do the same"... Man, it's not about feeling "abused" or whatever, just about considering it is bad for the game (metagaming, multiplayer, etc) - and I agree with that.
Now, most people don't, which is their right too...

Actually yes..I can multitask your inablity to do so is not our problem (and yes they had their own personlity ) and the other players in the group did so as well... Quote:

It's like saying pvp is the biggest problem - no it isn't, it's meant to be there.
Unless I'd misinterpreted it, some post by Oveur or other would have limited things to 1 character per account - if Oveur could have his wish to reverse the clock. I suppose that could mean they don't mind 1 person having more than 1 account, but either way, it's not the same as 'actively encouraging' multiple characters.
