I would like to see implemented ship docking or linking. Here are the few ideas:
Direct access to cargo holds between ships, for mining, secure cargo swaps, and pirating.
Pirating add in some sort of hacker skill etc in order to gain one way access to the cargo hold. In order also to make this more viable there would need to be a reason to "board" a ship such as more of the cargo being either vulnerable to space or chances for various portions being destroyed depending on the amount and type of firepower being applied.
Shield extensions. Two ships linking their shields together into one unit with both contributing recharge rates, boosters, etc.
Speed boosting (towing) It would be nice to be able to link up with a barge or industrial and give it extra shield protection as well as a speed boost.
Manuevering boosting (tugging). Little ships be deployed as tugs to manuever bigger ships around.
Linking (speed boost). Two ships of like class/mass combinging their efforts for greater speeds.
Methods could be along these lines: Purely skill based Tractor beams required by one or both ships. By ship type. Little ships or slow ships can hauled by larger ships. Big ships can be tugged by little ships. Linking similar of similar class. Pirate methods, skill + equipment to steal the cargo. Control would need to fall to one or the other ship in the link. Range could be something under 500m.

neat idea....
one way for the piracy is to have a mid slot item that you load with action orders and this is your boarding party.
You load the bording party with cargo radiing you get a open cargo window and a 1 min timer.
Or you load it wit sabotage and it randomly disables a odule or modules on the target ship.

and you could have a midslot filled with marines (you know, the ones in the trade items) to defend the ship from boarding parties....or even put undergraduates (also from the trade items) into the midslot, who improve resistance to door unlocking.

I like that idea alot, marine boarding parties 4tw.
1k range definetley to make it a almost suicidal action :D

Edited by: Gommage Amandes on 26/01/2006 15:37:49 also implement a purchaseable module and skill range that allows the user to gain control (Hi-jack) another ships electronics and navigational modules.
This would be classed as an agressive manuever by concord and would be classed in the same way as if you fired on the other ship. I would limit it's use to around 1000m, and make the hacking process take between 15 - 30 secs, allowing the other ship the chance to get away if he is not warp jammed, etc.
This skill could be linked as an advanced form of the hacking skill. The higher you get the skill the longer and more modulesyou can control.
As a complete package with your ideas, this would be an awesome skill to have and would keep a lot more people on their toes in lower sec regions.

id say though add a high amount of risk for clamping onto a ship to steal cargo, say if the targeted ship goes into warp the if the attacker has completed the clamp on his ship is destroyed.
make a defense module that when activated has a chance to destroy all modules of the currently clamped on ship(call it a massive EMP from the outer hull). would make things fun for sure on both sides of the piracy.
but to make people even risk boarding you would need to add some incentive for boarding rather then just popping the hauler.

I like the first idea, but the other ones seem redundant or not worth the effort in light other other things EVE needs fiddling with.

The only reason people want this is to link an eight-mining-laser Apoc directly to a 25,000 m3 Iteron.
Strangely, that is also the reason why it will NEVER happen. --- Ha! Vote me for top forum ***** |
