Hi there,
I would like to point out that Shadow Serpentis loot is not good enough for what it's supposed to be (rare faction loot). Almost all items are similar to t2 versions with slightly lowered fitting requirements. It's quite frustrating to finally get that SS spawn, then it finally dropping what you'd think would be good upgrades for your ships only to find out they're nothing better than the T2 fit you have because you have a bit of spare pg/cpu anyway.
Items in question : SS large armor repairer SS active armor hardeners SS tracking computer
Please make sure that all faction loot is better than all T2 versions of the item (in the case of weapons make sure they're affected by spec skills too, in this case, t2 weapons are almost always better than faction versions).
My $0.02

Exactly the same for me, it's really frustrating. Domination loot is a bit manky too. But True Sansha, Dread Gurista and Dark Blood are all considerably better quality.

Hmm, the hardeners are the same, and each pirate race has the same issue. Some mods of theirs are better then tech2, some are about same, some worse. Each race has different mods that are better/same/worse.
For example, if you are looking for armor tanking equipemtn you are better off looking for bloodraides and sasnha's then serpentis. If you want tracking computers or sensor booster that are better then tech2, you are at the right spot however if you are hunting serpentis.
And every pirate npc faction has its specialisms. You just chose the wrong faction for the gear you wanted.

What Rod says is true, however, what is also true is that the mods he lists are extremely rare to see. When you kill a shadow serp commander you're nearly guaranteed (if you even get a shadow serp mod) to walk off with an armor hardener or something similar, not a sensor booster or a shadow serp mag stab. Matter of fact I've never seen a shadow serp MFS in about a year and a half, and the only sensor boosters I have seen dropped from officers. Perhaps the topic should be called "Why are faction loot tables so fouled up" since I'm pretty sure this isn't unique to serpentis.

Nah that's simply not true, even serp tracking stuff is crap, every looked at the stats of them? they're exactly t2 stats or +0.05% better. Equality is making sure the loot is of similar quality, not saying all factions should drop all mods, but the mods they do drop should be an improvement as big as other mods from other factions. For example, the SS large armor repairer is the worst faction repairer in the game, and other mods are the same. Simple truth is that if you'd be hunting for the ISK, SS is the worst choice. And that's a bit frustrating

That's pretty much my point. I have dozens of passive armor stuff from SS...and it's worth nothing at all. SS just drops too much stuff i dont even pick up anymore.

I agree that the armor stuff SS drop is inferior.
But for example the sensor boosters (ive gotten about 5 or so of them without going to great lengths btw), are markedly better then tech2, as are the tracking computers.
5% improvement is alot you know, people train up month long skills for that.
However, other then that their loot does seem soemwaht below the mark in all honesty. But the same goes for bloods once you no longer need the repairer and hardeners. There's not much they drop regularly that is worth it either.
Also, no npc facton is as easy to kill as serpentis. I mean, they are most certainly the laughing stock of the NPC community. I cant even remember the last time I took any actual armor damage when hunting them in my mega or deimos.

They're still not worth that much though.

I can only agree, but that shouldnt be the reason for crap loot. If they're too easy to kill make em harder to kill, not nerf the loot.

I'm a noob, so most of the higher end mods aren't in my ability to use yet in most cases - but I can't agree that everything the SS drop is worthless. I've hit a few of those 50-80k SS spawns lately and pulled named Tracking Disruptors as well as a Snake Alpha - but I do get tired of Shield boosters and small armor plates.

Yeah tell me about it, I kill the top dog of the serpentis TWICE in a weeks time and I get one 37% passive hardening plating (ok, thats not entirely crap since it takes no cpu or grid, but not exactly great either), and I get one whole SS tracking comp (which, for the information of our dear poster earlier on, sells for 50+ million isk).
All in all, pretty crappy for killing the main honcho twice huh ?
It's all part of the game. Things can go both ways. First officer I killed ever (way back during the GNW), dropped me 3 modified and 5 "dread gurista" modules in one go, it was the crappiest gurista officer at that.
That's randomness for you.
But anyway, I like faction loot being somewhat better at some thing, but not amrkedly better at everything. Officer loot however should always be better then tech2.

Indeed, one on escrow for 35m atm...although that seems a bargain even to me

SS blasters < t2, dread launchers > t2 and better fitting. Same goes for tanking modules, hardeners are actually same quality, but dread invulnerability >>t2, while ss platings & membranes are just a low skill substitute for t2. Ok maybe 5cpu less on membranes.
On the other hand, SS and DG needs better webs & scrams, as they are considerably suckiner than domination, TS, DB. Maybe boost them to DB lvl and leave domination stuff a bit better, as those rats are supposed to be nasty and loot should reflect it.
I use no guns... i smack to death. |

It's a bit telling the most expensive bit of SS loot on escrow is 34m atm..
