Originally by: keepiru Heh. Ive had this too at one time or another... maybe youre not cleaning your pc of the old drivers before installing the new ones?
Install DriverCleaner. Follow the instructions to cleaning your video and soundcard drivers.
In fact, do it for all the drivers: uninstall them all, rebot into safe mode, run driver cleaner on all the drivers it knows about youve ever had installed, reboot into windows and install the latest drivers.
Its a bother, but uninstalling the old drivers and cleaning with drivercleaner every time i update video/sound drivers has saved me a lot of hassle further on. The majority of the problems ppl have with drivers today come from having multiple versions of the drivers stored in the systems .cab files.
You might also wanna consider getting a new videocard... an fx5200 is 25ú and a 6200 is 35ú @ OcUK

25 quid is too much?

That doesent mean that never uninstalling the old drivers wont leave with conflicts. See above.

Go the site of your motherboard, and search for the product page for your motherboard. It should have a voice called "BIOS Updates", or it will be under the downloads for your motherboard. Youll probably need a blank floppy disk, as many older motherboards cant flash the BIOS from windows. ------------- Please fix the EW stacking bug, it's a disgrace!

It varies by manufacturer, you need the exact model of your motherboard, then look it up on the manufacturer's website and see if there are updates. If there are, there will be instructions on how to do the update, follow the instructions to the letter.
Often it involves making a disk and booting to it, some have a windows based configuration manager, I strongly prefer diskette based solutions for this.
Video cards have firmware as well BTW and some problems can be solved that way, very similar process.

Well in that case the first troubleshooting step you should carry out is what we like to call percussive mainiance...
first step get a large hammer... Second step beat the computer into submission...

Ok this is ****ing me off...
I solved the BSOD problem by replacing the the Face.stuff thing, now a new problem has emerged.
It Randomly restarts my PC every 5-10mins. No errors, no causes, just restarts it as if I had pressed the Off switch.
Any ideas? ---------------------------------

And take a look at your fans & heatsinks, see if theyre clogged with dust, could be the cpu is reaching critical temps and resetting the syetem - there arent many games as cpu-intensive as eve. ------------- Please fix the EW stacking bug, it's a disgrace!

Not really but I would have expected a hardware fault issue causeing that to did the restarts anyhow not the BSODs...and make sure you turn off be fore disablebing the CPUs heatsink fan ========= "I am not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why can`t we just take the safety labels off everything and let the problem fix its self |

I recently got my machine to start running Eve properly again, after having somewhat similar symptoms.
My problems:
Heat Exchange <- Super dirty fans. I have a CoolerMaster "squirrel" blower on my CPU, the fins where totally engulfed in dust. The fan on my graphics card had a screen over it, also completely packed with dust. It took 3 cans of spray air, and much scrapping and brushing before I was satisfied with the cleaning. I saved as much of the dust as I could and when finished came out to about 3 grams of dust. That's alot.
Graphics Drivers <- I've always been told to use the most up-to-date drivers from my manufacturer, not Nvidias drivers. Well, my manufacturuer might make a decent card, but their drivers are god awful. I went and got the newest Nvidia ForceWare drivers, installed them, problem's gone.
Hope this helps.
