Not funny. It's another case of ambiguity. I don't know what joke you're trying to imply here and as a result, I don't get it.
Take winterblink's advice and don't make too many too fast. Humour is not a mechanical process. Perhaps one out of every fifty ideas you have will be genuinely top grade funny stuff and those are what you want to make comics of. I'll take quality over quantity any day.
I find ambiguous humor the best. Because you actually have to use a bit of your imagination to get the joke. In simple humour where the joke is explicit, I normally don't laugh a lot because most of the explicit jokes are too simple and obnoxious.
Keep up the good work with the comic!

This is very true. I have an idea file a mile long, but I'm ridiculously picky over which ones I actually start to develop. Takes a lot of time for some to make it out the door.
Of course some days I'll just have too much coffee and spit out things like the Dippy Frig one. But overall, what you state is pretty accurate.
Or, you could go with the Charles Shultz model and release every idea no matter its merits. Plus, you've gotta hone your skills. Ever seen the early, early Far Sdie's or Garfield's? Many where really terrible. I think perseverance is the key. Also, I think people have to warm up to an authors humor styles. Not everyone can be Dane Cook.
And thanks for not using the Thorax on #3, that's been slightly played out.

OK. I do not recognise the bigger ship so I dont get the joke. What is it about?
Maybe, using a narator box to hint or introduce an idea might be good? ----------------

Jenny, quit acting naive. Hint: It's not about ship type, more along the lines of ship design.

Fine you want the short version? "I don't get it." But there's a good reason I don't get it and anything I can say to help eliminate that reason imnproves the range of people affected by the humour.
I don't mean to be nasty, I just think being more selective with jokes and thinking hard about how to put them and how other people will read them is invaluable.

Eating beans has never made me charred :p. Honestly, that's obscure. If you expect people to laugh at it, it needs to be universal.

Edited by: Saeris Tal''Urduar on 20/01/2006 23:08:35 Okay # 2 was really good. (got some chuckles out of me, enough so that some co-workers wandered over..they even enjoyed it being non-EVE players) #1 I liked redone. Almost as good as #2 #4 pretty egg. #3 was alright...more along the "rolling the eyes funny"
Edit: Oh and WB is right..dont do to many, they start to lose impact.

I would say that it highly depends on who you want laughing.
Plenty of tv and radio shows that me and my mates find hilarious, and that my parents or the average girl simply don't find funny. And this not to speak ill of girls and humour (or the lack there of ). But theres simply some things that speak to some groups and not others, due to culture, age and mutual references. The really funny stuff is the stuff thats not meant to transcend those groups. Because in 95% of the cases, seeking to make it more universal you also make it more common and flat. Edgy might not make you a millionaire, but it might just make you a winner.
And if one does not pick up on the innuendo in #2, one should perhaps not consider one self as a reasonable measuring stick when it comes to comics in this forum. In my mind it was way to obvious, to make the comic really funny.
But more comics = good. So keep it up.

Two and three made me laugh immediately. One I didn't really find funny, even after the re-write. Four got a slight chuckle at the pod but that was about it. Keep at em mate, practice makes perfect.

I think they are pretty good personally..
Imo you should perhaps put a stroke around the speech bubbles, but that's my personal preference to comic styles. Similarly I would put a stroke around the whole image, and add a drop shadow onto it, which requires the canvas to be slightly bigger than the image but done right it can look really good
For instance, I made this a little while back, not that funny really I admit, but still: Clicksy Here
Keep going with it though, looking like they have a lot of potential!
