I shall defeat you with my shiney new sticks of Corsair 2gb RAM!
I wonder if it will run faster. Got a new GCard too (one of them ATI thingies...)
Item: Gecube ATI Radeon X1800XT 512mb DUAL DVI AVIVO PCI-E Qty: 1
Item: Samsung SM204T 20.1" TFT 16ms 700:1 (1600x1200) Monitor - Black (3 Year Warranty) Qty: 1
w00tage. Should now be able to run Eve as it was meant to. (got a crappy X300 at the moment, only 128mb).
Hope it works in my motherboard :D
to any techies here, i have a x300 16x pcie card so this 16x pcie should work ok, yes?

And a bit more expensive to boot ;)
Well response times... I dont really notice anything in them. I've got a 17 inch with a 3x ms response time and halflife 2 and CSS work fine. 25ms is good enough for me :) I got my tv connected up to the pc for dvds and even when watching them on screen, I dont really notice anything bad. I've never (AFAIK) experienced "ghosting". :)

The measurement of the response time is not standardized. It's just to fool stupid buyers, just as the big screaming "MHz" measurements. Quality is still quality and crap is crap and you can't see it from any number such as "response time".

The Human eye can't see anything happening faster than 30 Hz (33ms) whether the monitor is 16ms response time or 4ms makes no difference 'cause you'd have to be superhuman to notice ------------------------------------------- He's NOT the Jovian ambassador, He's a very Naughty boy! |

Uhm.
The eye cannot see is different from "the eye does not notice", since your eye is not synched with the monitor, and the eyes "refresh" works in a very different way from a monitors.
In practice, a rate of 85-100Hz for CRT's and 60Hz for LCD's eliminates any and all perceptable flicker.
Response times for changes can be percieved as low as 6-8ms. Remember that the figure quoted for a LCD response time is often HIGHLY misleading as to actual game performance. --------------------------------------------------------------- Warning: above post may contain traces of sarcasm.

Because I've never had a top of the range card before. This should last me a good couple of years and *still* be mid-range or so by then. I hope :D

Actually, the nerve stimulus stream from the eye to the brain is not synchronized at all, it's a stream that just goes on and on. That kind of changes things on how he perceive our surroundings...
At the same time at best the human eye/brain (under ideal circumstances, with the focus on the task) can even sense one single photon that hits the proper parts of the eye.. So talking about some magical "Hz" limit is just rubbish. (For instance US Airforce concluded that their simulators must get way past 250fps to start being at least close to "real" when stimulating the brain to interpret movement..)
But on what comes to the monitors, it's anyways more important to get rid of the misleading things such as smearing, ghosting, rainbow color effects etc. Most of the really important issues with the human eye/brain and the TFT panels aren't actually measured by any of the done "statistics" of the sold monitors at all.

Actually, past 100Hz on a monitor, you start seeing shifting "artifacts" (this is due to the brain's processing of the data, not the eye. 250Hz would be basically unwatchable. There are other ways to simulate streaming.
The 30Hz "limit" comes from the number of changes an individual nerve cell can make in a second.

DUDE RETURN THAT CARD ASAP... ATI just released the X1900.. well you can buy it already at some stores even though it hasnt officially launched yet. They tripled the pixel shaders from 12 in the X1800 to 48 in the X1900. If your playing newer games thats a HUGE difference.

Yeah, provided that over the next couple of years they don't invent a new way of doing things. Shader tech's relatively new, and the card I bought just a couple years ago doesn't do diddly with new games like HL2. Well, it runs it, but nowhere near as well as a highend card will.
Time for Blinky to upgrade, but I think I'll probably stick with a 128 or 256m card. :)

nah, by the time I do, a new card will be out with 56 or 64... you cant sit there waiting for the next big thing to come out because by the time it does, it's out of date :)

I Can't really notice ghosting on my 24" LCD(samsung 244T),which is rated at 6ms response time(gray to gray though)...Should be about 12~16 ms by ISO standards...
As far as video cards go,i'm currently running a dual 7800 GT SLI setup(EVE runs super smooth at 1920 x 1200 resolution with 4x anti- aliasing enbled),so i won't be needing new cards anytime soon, and a setup at least 2x faster won't be available soon either, especially for the price paid(325$ each card)...

Hey, a memory leak is a memory leak, no matter how much sand you put in the bag, its still gona run out. Had my client on 6hrs yesterday jumping from place to place on deliveries etc, maybe 70-100 jumps in all and my client went over 1GB memory usage.
/me hugs my 20" widescreen dell. It does me fine.

Doom 3, FEAR, and The new Far Cry expansion all use very high texture resolutions that need that much memory for max texture settings. Of course I'd just go with the lower texture settings and a cheaper card.

The Leadtek 6600 GT TDH is an exceptional card for the price (available in both PCI-Express and AGP). It also overclocks astonishingly well (15% puts it nearly on par with an average 6800 GT). If you want something better and have PCI-Express then the Leadtek 7800 GT TDH is the way to go. |

lol, nice catch with the 'tripled'
and the 30hz thing is bull****. You would struggle to find a gamer who can't tell the difference between 30 and 60fps.. err, unless they're people trying to justify having crappy PCs that can't get over 30fps in Eve Online? ________

Actually today I received an 'AG Neovo F417' 17" TFT, and I must say, it's a lot more spiffeh than my olf HP 15" TFT.
Also, my brother, completely unrelated, purchased the F419, and is happy a punch with it. So there goes, cheap TFT 4tw!

Can I point out it doesn't matter how much, how fast or how expensive the new RAM you just fitted was it will not fix a memory leak. And fiddling with your page file is just a complex way to waste your time (unless it's Windows leaking + not Eve).
A memory leak is a programming bug, you can't fix it without changing the code.
