I had only jumping problems that evening
battle was very smooth at the beginning with about 1 second module lag, second half I could lock but had big module lag.
Will check your video to see what was it like for you

OK checked it, seems to be going very well for you at the beginning, the moment you were jammed you already died pretty fast (much faster then on your video I think). After you died you were stuck in session change, which sucks, but I know that feeling from the times I used to play with modem and something big happened ^^.
Well, I guess you were lagged out to be about 10-15 seconds behind the real server time, and the moment you saw yourself getting shoot up you were already dead.
But interesting indeed, maybe we can play email Eve-fleet battles. The server just writes us an email when we get shoot and then we have 1 day to reply what to do. Would help with the lag .

That is all very nice, but I much rather see improvements.
Thing like this makes it impossible for us to use any kind of tactics against superior numbers.
And that part is what sucks the most. |

This looks VERY familiar.. :( "Our logs do not show anything abnormal with the loss, be it server lag or node load at that time.."
This new TQ cluster better be amazing, or they will lose a lot of long time players..

Welcome to the world of fleet battles kids. Doesnt it just want to make u learn to pvp !
I doubt the server upgrades will change much tbh. Everytime they say "omg leet new stuff will fix everything" it never does. BMs anyone ? never been worse Quite simply, too many ppl playing. This used ot be possible.

seems surprising that when i moan of lag - (see past post regarding the killing of our fleet INSIDE a pos shield) - u lot all lay into me.
it is a terrible shame that lag is literally killing off the ability to have a good fight. and for teh record its now SO bad that when we were moving a TWENTY man fleet the other day at each jump in we were losing 4 or 5 to ctd - and 6 or 7 to e warps thus leaving about 6 of us on the gate twiddling our thumbs waiting for our mates to come back!!!
i BEG u CCP to concentrate on LAG before introducing ANYTHING more to this game. I dont wish to start a differrent topic to much - but the one biggest thing taht could be done (imo) is to remove the need for instas. - no one who hunts (pvp) really hunts on the warp to gate - unlesss they use bubbles inwhcih case my sugggestion changes nothing. we nearly ALL hunt a the point of jump in. now consider that nearly everyone on 0.0 has bms - thats MILLIONS of bms. - remove the need for them - have a warp to gate at 0 km option - and release some cpu to help tackle the terrible lag problems
PLEASE

Exact same thing happened to me, but in a 20vs20 battle. Saw my shield starting to go down so thought, hey time to warp out, nothing happens, armor going down, still nothing, structure down to 5% and stays there for pretty much the rest of the fight untill i finaly se my pod warp out. Lag sucks

Im sorry to break it to you Gronsak, but youŠre so wrong. Its shouldnt matter if thereŠs 30 thousand players online, EVE should be as stable as it was pre-castor anyway.
The REAL problems is that CCP dragged their feet for way too long with the hardware update and now we (the players) are suffering for it.
If the supposed upgrade this february dont put the servers back where they were around castor when talking about stability, i belive weŠre gonna see alot of less happy people, included me. And if the stability goes back to normal, iŠll probably call in sick for a week .
Ohh.. and im not even gonna bother checking the movies. Been there done that, and got told there was no serverlagg .

Unfortunately, I don't think the big server upgrade is going to fix anything. I think the basic architecture of the single-shard world just isn't going to cut it anymore.
I have a bad feeling that things are going to get more drastic. :(

Edited by: vladdy2 on 24/01/2006 00:29:57 well... I thought of taking time off work to participate in this little "event" because it was another "supposed" opportunity to reach out and touch teh BoB.
it only took me about 2 minutes to think ahead and realize that there would be well over 150 toons in some system trying to touch each other.
I thought of teh Ebil Lag-Monster and decided this would be an "event" I will make the choice to miss.
From all accounts on TS and in our comms channels, after getting home, the trip down from our space and the "action" in YZ i just sat back and thought "yup you made the right decsion to stay away"
too bad about the Lag-monster and the fact its everywhere now, jumped into a system with 2 other toons last night and had to relog 3 times for it to clear up.
maybe one day in the not too distant future this crud/fudge/sludge Lag-monster will be slayed, cuz as it stands atm 3 peeps in a system = unplayable
that event should have/could have been alot of fun for those involved but it was not to be, and the bad part is more and more peeps will take my attitude "oh large fight lets spend 5 hours in stop motion animation" no thanks i'll not attend.
my 3 isk is spent

Fixing the lag...A review by Mind Dragon
BACKGROUND I reviewed the video file and I've been examining the "lag" problem on my own for quite some time. The lag problem that exists here is the same lag problem that happens on almost any other MMPOG or even MPG system, such as Quake or Battlefield 2.
Modern-day bandwidth just isn't sufficient for all connected players to be notified of all other players positions and actions at the same time. Now, the way many games have approached the problem was to cut anything over X -- for example, no more than 16 or 32 players visible in the same visible space (say 1,000 meters or something). Ironically, this is why you can see ghosting in games like Planetside (64 to 128 visible player limit) or even WW 2 Online (32 to 64 visible player limit). Which is great for when 500 players all try to rush the same location at the same time. WW 2 Online when Allied or Axis had only one or two spawns left, it was insane. You walk two feet in any direction and there's just blobs of players all around you. Forget flying over the area (I took some video a long time ago of a thousand ghosts every second, hilarious). It boils down to very simple Comp. Sci. engineering:
ASSUMPTION OF FACTORS INVOLVED Number of Players Available bandwidth for each player (assume megabit download best case, 33.6kbps worse case) Latency between all player locations
In general, these days, the computer isn't the limiting factor. A Pentium III 1.xx gigahertz processor can push a full 10 gigabit per second; that's ~1.25 gigabytes per second. They were used to test network switches in 2000, so the processor it self can push some serious bandwidth. It ain't the computer folks.
Let's break down what we see on the screen by doing some basic math here: Number of players: 68 G/IRON players (best guess), 35 BoB players (again, best guess).
Soooo...103 players in the same space. Since this is a real time MMPOG, you can assume that each client session is going to need between 64k and 128k of bandwidth to transmit position, player action, text messaging and other software messaging requirements (damage ack, keep alives and more). Remember, this is per player to be shared by all players in order to update the display.
BANDWIDTH FACTOR: 103 * 64 = 6.5 megabits. 103 * 128 = 13.184 megabits.
COMPARISION TO DOCUMENTED INCIDENT Now, the way most games handle it is just go as far as they can with the data that is still being received and hope that "network congestion" improves over time. So what data that it is able to process, it updates on the screen. That's why in the video you can see a few ships moving and a whole lot of stationary stuff. If you were able to see the other 103 screens, you would probably see varying levels of that.
THE SOLUTION So, for your next engagement, try to plan on how much bandwidth is required in order to have an optimal experience. Based on the general rule of thumb of 1 megabit per player, I would say that no more than 15 people fighting in the same space at the same time to be safe and this generally holds true for what can be seen in Eve today.
The bottom line is, if you want this game to improve, complain to the overbearing (and archaic, dinosauric and, in general stupid) telco monopolies, lobbies and the governments that supports them. Don't blame the innocent CCP game makers that have done everything possible to make a great game that we see today.

I dont see a prop here. This is not bad lag. this is accepteble.. There was about 5secs delay but atleats you saw hostiles in you owerwiev you mods also responded..You even jammed one. normal lag.. You should try to have lag where you dont even got the hostile loaded thats lag..
So why coulnt you warp when you took fire. prop becuase of the 5 sec delay.. You got instat poped and before you saw it you were alrdy dead..
Try to see Farscape hw movie then you can talk about lag.
Acutally i feel cheated that you guys could do fleet battles that big and only wiht that amount oflag..
when the 20-20 battles we had last week with BOS totally lagged peeps out. Coulnt even load hostiles on overwiev.
