Neculai Patroclus wrote:I have recently got bck into Eve after only playing for a month or so. Before that I could not decide on what to do but now have looked into it a bit more and have decided to go with mining. I don't get to play as much as I would like so I'd rather become a solo miner for this reason. I only have the one account for now and was wondering if anyone had some tips for me. Currently I'm training for a retriever but after that I do not know what to do. Should I train skills to improve mining yield? Should I train in refining in order to refine my ores better?
Also I am a bit confused about how I should sell my ores, I have heared people say I should sell them to buy orders where others have told me to sell them on the market. Should I sell the ore themselves or refine them? Which ores will provide more profits?
Sorry if this post isn't as detailed as it could be, I'm in a bit of a rush and wanted to get this post up before I go out
Thank you & happy flying
One account solo mining is not very profitable. It never has been and never will be. That said, I will try to answer your questions. If you are bound and determined to mine, I recommend joining a corp that mines regularly, and that has an orca and a booster. Having someone hauling for you increases the efficiency of mining by a great deal. This also can eliminate the refining problem.
Mining and fitting skills will improve your yield. Without someone hauling for you, the improvements from this are lowered drastically.
Refining skills are another animal. If you are refining yourself the single greatest thing you can do for yourself is to increase your standings with the station you refine at. This lowers/removes the tax taken out on your refined materials, which I believe is three times larger than the waste caused by low/no refining skills. Training refining skills yourself is worthwhile, not only because of the refnining skill, but also because it allows you to use mining crystals with tech 2 strip miners (but that is later in your eve life). IN the beginning it is probably best to join a corp, as they will have people with good standing and good skills to reprocess for you (for example, this character is a perfect refiner for 50% stations, and has low/no taxes at many caldari corps). |
