Has anyone actually managed to ransom a ship off of someone?
Say... "eject. or I will destroy your ship and pod" Taking their ship instead of ransom money?
Just thinking that a well structured bubble camp could actually collect quite a few ships this way, and fitted up too :) lovely tech 2 gear and so on. No risk of cargo being destroyed.
I can just imagine 5 or 6 ejected ships littered around a gate due to successful ransoms. :) When the camp is over, just fly back to station, and back in a pod/shuttle. Grab ship and fly home :) Lovely ship which is cheaper to repair and use as opposed to buying new (even selling on), and a full setup of modules and the cargo.
Any thoughts on this form of piracy? ----- Memorable Quotes <Jarltan Dimtras> OH MY GOD MY GF IS A DUDE |

This only work very, very rarely. The problem with this, is that the pilot loses any chance of insurance if he leaves the ship.
It seldom happens that a pilot eject by himself though. I presume that this is to save his implants, though since it's not that hard to get your pod away after the ship is destroyed, most people just take their chances.

Edited by: M3ta7h3ad on 22/01/2006 16:25:06 hmm true, its why I mentioned a bubble camp. Travelling out of a bubble at pod speeds whilst under the threat of fire is something I wouldnt enjoy.
I've often carried a shuttle or two in an industrial along with my cargo, only used it at war though, jettisoned the shuttle boarded and flew at 600m/s at the gate. They could take my cargo couldnt care. Also carrying BPC's + mins = I could jettison the bpc's jettison the shuttle, board, grab bpc's and leg it :D leave them shooting the empty badger :)
Was just curious :) ----- Memorable Quotes <Jarltan Dimtras> OH MY GOD MY GF IS A DUDE |

While in SNIGG myself and Griffinator thought this up as a potential plan, so I went out and tried it in my Zealot.
The first day, I took a Moa from a pilot, the second I cought the same pilot, in the same belt in a Scorpion, and took that from him.
A few days later, I also salvaged a megathron, from a different pilot several jumps away.
All ships were stripped and sold at market value
All three times I attempted to ransom the ship, and the pilots told me they didn't have enough isk.
So I offered to spare their lives for the aquisition of their ship.
Basically, I asked them to eject and leave the system, waited for them to do so, then parked my zealot in a safespot and came back in the egg for the captured ship.
I then took that to the safespot and waited out my flagging, before taking the captured ship to the station, and returning for my Zealot.
Works wonders if you can persuade people to eject. Both pilots lived to tell the tale.

You can't AFAIK, you need to board another ship, I.E. a shuttle.

If you activate the docking sequence, then start to eject, it'll prompt. If you click 'yes' when you get 'docking request accepted' you'll be in a pod, your ship will be in a station. -- We are recruiting
