SO as a new player to eve and Faction warfare. ALL I see are pirate corps set up on gates to low sec coming from High sec and insta poping and poding newbies.
As in all games where the masses are allowed to play there will always be "greivers", but that leaves me to 1 question
Why would anyone play THIS game if they are blown up every time they decided to go and try to plex a system, when your only route is thru the one gate where 10 pirates are posted waiting for you.
Sure isk is easy to make, after you have established time in the game and have the resources to earn it Sure combat is easy, after you have established the time in the game to use the stuff that makes it easy.
I started with 5k isk and a ship that does lol 11 dps. so how am I to make isk in FW when I cant outrun, outgun or hold my ground from their assaults.

You have to solve problems in this game. It's hard. That's why most people like it. As for your 'problems', they are far from insurmountable. Because I'm a lovely guy (ask anyone), I'll lay it out for you.
1) Enter low sec in a pod (pirates can't catch you) 2) Go to friendly hub system 3) Buy frigate 4) Find quiet backwater 5) Open plex 6) Run if someone chases you 7) Cash in lp
You can easily make an excellent income doing this which will fund your development as a player and increase your understanding of game mechanics.
When I started playing this game I ratted in low sec to earn isk. It took me about a day's grind to afford a cruiser. You could manage the same in about 15 minutes. In summary: quit whining.

I highly highly suggest joining a noob-friendly corp. They'll help you move stuff into low-sec and from there you can start doing what you want.
As a new player to Eve, I suggest you hold off from FW for about a month until you get your very basic skills trained up. Then apply to a corp that helps to train new pilots. They'll usually help you get in ships, give you advice on flying, training skills, how to get past those gate camps, etc. There's so many things that a group of players can do in Eve that a single solo player cannot. And given that you're new... flying around solo will be incredibly painful. |

You're just not there yet. When you do get there, the PvP part is much more fun than the PvE part.

EVE has always many ways to do same thing.
It seems that you used most obvious way to do something and usually griefers, pirates, enemies etc exploit the most obvious ways, camping and killing newbies, lazy and careless players.
If you really want to try FW and you really are newcomer to eve, i recommend that you join some veteran militia corporation who helps out giving some advises and maybe even material support to get started. |

There are several ways to bypass gate camps.
First is to travel-fit your ship; warp core stabilizers, nanofibers to reduce align time, a microwarp drive to burn out or back to the gate, maybe a cloak. Not 100% guaranteed.
Second is to get a buddy to scout the other side of the gate for you; if you're in a corp operating in the war zones, generally there'll be at least one or two guys who can fly covert ops or force recon ships, who will be able to tell you if the gate's clear or not.
Third would be to try alternate routes, checking kill counts on the EVE in-game map or on the evemaps.dotlan.net maps. For entering Black Rise, for example, systems like Tama and Akidagi are often extremely active, but Ishomilken and Ikoskio are much quieter, and make decent alternate routes (at the expense of longer journeys once you're over the low-sec threshold). Friends who are familiar with the local astrography can be very helpful in this regard as well. wow, the universe of EvE is seemingly getting smaller and smaller. Apparently there is only one way to get somewhere (again).
Take some time to experiment with your eve map. It's amazing you can see ships in system in the last 30mins, how many ships have been destroyed and a whole bunch of other stuff.
and then you can plot a route to avoid those heavy traffic systems. . .
Also.. wormholes for the win, they can always spit you out anywhere. of course you then need to worry about a completely different type of camp.

Just don't go trough those gates. Fastest High Sec - Low Sec access points are often camped, but there's always a backdoor, longer but safer. But mostly: don't be a tourist, move and live in low sec, you will minimize the risk to travel trough that gates. FW is a low sec "profession".

To get pass a low-sec gate camp:
- install warp core stabilisers in your low slots (immune to warp scramble) - insteall low friction nozzles in your rig slots (to boost agility and reduce align times) - install small/medium shield modules in your mid slots (increase your survivability if you do get locked)
Put all the other modules you intend to use in your cargohold and dock at a station once you're pass the camp. Swap the modules & rigs there, and pat yourself on the back. :) |

Pirates at a gate aren't 'griefing' anymore than the enemy FW camping them, or plexes is. Denial of travel, resources, reinforcement, etc are among the most common tactics in any sort of warfare. This seems to come as a surprise to people when it really shouldn't.
Real militaries rarely operate lone warships during an open conflict (submarines being an exception), so flying solo into hostile space and being bushwhacked is a failing of tactics, not the game. Like the Achille Lauro incident- even the most powerful navy in the world can, and did, lose a multi-billion dollar military ship to hijackers when left unattended by escort. Essentially the US Navy's shiny T2 spy ship was ganked. TBH, it demonstrates how close Eve comes to 'being real' at times. Flying alone in hostile space is wholly unrealistic for any military, and the tactic works as well in Eve as it does in RL.
Around the fringes of any major conflict, say four empires fighting perpetual war, there are always looters, thieves, pirates, and murderers looking to exploit it. It could be said that care bears selling ships and ammo in FW markets are little more than gun-runners and war profiteers directly arming the pirates!
The term pirate is also somewhat misapplied. They could simply be that the people that live in those regions don't want ANY of the empires there. Consider Afghanistan as an RL model- the people that actually live there hated BOTH the US and the (former) USSR. The locals accepted the help of the US to defeat the USSR during the 80's, then immediately turned on the US when the Russians left- their ultimate goal to expel BOTH sides from their land. Base out of true stronghold systems then. If your faction cannot be trusted to hold on to any system then base out of systems that are outside of the warzone, but are still lowsec. |

Dotlan Maps is your friend. As is getting to know the settings for the in-game map.
There is some good advice in this thread:
1. Join an established FW corp to teach you the ropes. 2. Join a training corp. There are a few corporations, schools, that help new players survive pvp. This will expand your survival to null sec where some mechanics are ... more aggressive. Then do FW.
Corps to talk to? This one, I will let you research. You should not need more than a 3-8 weeks to get through their programs.
Good luck and have fun. |

Denial of travel, resources, reinforcement, etc are among the most common tactics in any sort of warfare. Nowhere does it say FW is strictly a two sided affair. That is an artificial and flatly incorrect interpretation of FW in the first place. What you want is R-v-B if you want clearly defined 'sides', designated combat areas, and artificial limitations on how wars are fought. FW is an organic war, taking place in space populated by civilians, including care bears, explorers AND pirates. They all are part of FW, whether they are in a milita or not. Real militaries rarely operate lone warships during an open conflict (submarines being an exception), so flying solo into hostile space and being bushwhacked is a failing of tactics, not the game. Much like the incident with the USS Pueblo in 1968. Essentially the US Navy had a multi-billion dollar T2 spy ship ganked. Lost to what amounted to pirates (for all intents and purposes- compared to the navy they stole the ship from, it's a fair assessment) because it was without escort in hostile waters. TBH, it demonstrates how close Eve comes to 'being real' at times. Flying alone in hostile space is wholly unrealistic for any military, and the tactic works as well in Eve as it does in RL. Just like in RL, most of the military fighting in contested regions don't actually live there- they come from Empire space. They arrive in death machines to blow things up, kill anyone not 'blue' to them, then leave and go home to the safety of high sec. Leaving the people native to the contested space living in a state of constant fear and deprivation, just wanting to farm their PI while seeing both sides of the ongoing war as 'the bad guy'. --Once again, that assessment is borne from logical fallacy. Assigning for other people their motivations and intentions, is a recipe for failure.
It's not any more valid than waving a hand over high sec and declaring them all cowards for not engaging in PvP. Such broad generalizations, coupled with the arrogance of defining for other people their own actions and motivations, is a method of stoking one's wounded ego by dehumanizing the supposed enemy. They didn't dec you because it's valid economic warfare to deny others resources or to take resources someone labored to retrieve.....nope, it's just because they're bad people (tm) and like to grief.... The latter seems a better salve for a victim's ego, but the only one they are convincing is themselves.
People throw around terms like sociopath because it's great hyperbole. How much more epic was a loss when it came at the hands of a mentally deranged person, rather than just another gamer nerd actually playing a game wholly within it's established rules? All chess players must be virtual Hannibal Lecters in that case. .since the only goal in chess is the total destruction of the other side- often 'killing' a dozen enemy soldiers (and even clergy) on the path to beheading an enemy monarchy. Bad analogy sweetheart. Chess (or any other sorts of boardgames) start of equal and symmetric footing. The pieces are provided for you without any effort or time investment on your part and always replaceable for next round at zero effort/time as well. The objective of Chess is only the domination of your single opponent with absolutely no other tasks or options to engage in at any time. Also, Chess is entirely voluntary as it is exceedingly difficult to force Chess on someone without questionable or outright illegal methods (unlawful imprisonment, blackmail, kidnapping, etc)

I also first ratted in low sec to grind out my first cruiser (maller).... Then I got caught by somebody without realizing how damn exposed I was doing that.
FW LP = easymode.
Warp core stabs / Nanos on a frigate will get you through 99.9% of gate camps. If you get caught by an instalocking gang with that setup, then you'll have to find a route around that gate, which there almost always is.
Besides, your plexing frigs should cost you less than a mil. |

I work offshore for 2 weeks of every month and currently have ships stuck in Sahtogas after we lost it whenever it was while I was at work. I tried searching for a neutral station but apparently they kick you out too when your faction loses the system. I now use an alt in a throw away frigate to recon my intended route from high sec before undocking something more expensive. Kind of a PITA but it works. Still looking for a better solution in the meantime.
why not just live in a neutral low-sec system? Those aren't that hard to find.

What I tend to do with my FW alts is to move them into quiet systems inside or close to the warzone (in low sec), and then just JC out to high when I have other stuff to do. When I'm ready for more FW goodness I jump back into the warzone, bypassing troublesome gates. :) A Crane alt brings in good or hulls when I need them, so I never really have to worry about gate camps.

Not really seeing the fun in that.
It's like this.... 1) when you're a child, you want to grow up. 2) when you're an adult, you want to be a child.
The SP system is paced so that players don't get bored too quickly. If you could compete with a 10 man camp with your rookie ship, then you would lose interest in the game, as would the campers.
I don't like gate camps, as they don't seem very sporting, but I'm glad they exist as it creates an interesting challenge to my game. I may complain, but that's part of the trials of EVE.
Play this game a different way, until you can play the gate camper game.... if you stay with it, you will learn.....and may someday be a camper. |

Shouldn't have much trouble if in a frig. I've gone through the heavy traffic fw areas in a griffin & algos with no worries.
Did have someone in fleet try to take a plated exequor through OMS... didn't work out for him.
Just don't be dumb. Excuse me, but what the f*ck are you desu? |
