If you want to mine for your cash, instead of mining to build your ships, guess who buy your minerals?
The traders. Traders who set up massive trade orders from region to region. Traders who dictate and lower the prices. They go around in huge indies picking up mineral from station to station, then guess what they'll be using these for.
To build ships, modules and ammo.
They don't spend a lot of time mining. They let the noobs and the nonbuilders do it for them.
I also notice something about people who build things and sell them. They enjoy what they're doing. The achievement of a sale has its own innate reward. I notice these people---the builders---go around buying BPs and copies of BPs so they can build more things.
The real problem of EVE's dynamic economy is the lack of differentiation. In a real economy, we have brand and feature differentiation to separate one item from another. In EVE, in the market, everything is just plain generic, with the exception of pirate dropped items.
An XeCL mining laser is only incrementally better than a Mining Laser 1, but in the trade market, because of its rarity and differentiation, it could cost you a million or more.
In the pirate loot, we got brands. For example, we have Modal, Anode, Afocal and Modulated. We got Carbine, Gauss, and Scout.
That's what we need for ships too, to make one slightly better than another. Let's dream an example, let's say a Maller cruiser.
Brands like a Imperium, Praetorian, Sarum, or Khanid Maller. The attributes of each variation is different; one may have better cap recharge rate, another may even allow a missile slot, another gives you a lower CPU usage, and another a damage bonus.
To allow for variations, the game should allow the user to research the changes. Just as he could research teh bp to reduce mineral cost, he could research the bp to adjust attributes.
In a real economy we also have new models to continually stimulate the economy. I think every few months, CCP should continue to introduce new ships and modules to the game, as well as BPs and market listings.
