Am I missing something? I've been playing EVE for a month and change, and I haven't run into an event yet. The closest I get is readng about 'em in the news the next day. I've been hanging around primarily in Minmatar space.
Is there any way to find out when events are going on? The in-game events channel is -always- dead...

It's an ongoing event right now started from Rens. It was escort mission, and too late to apply now as I tried and failed. They are here and there

Yeah what the others said. The only event I ever saw was in local chat so i'd definitely watch there. Many people don't watch local at all (since its usually random conversation there), so they miss stuff.

Edited by: Wyke Mossari on 08/02/2006 12:52:14 My experience of events is they are completly disorganised none-events. I responded to the virus escape after research accident by transporting medical supplies to Sharhelund expecting to find something in progress.
Spent about 4 hours monitoring the event channel, well over 2 hours waiting around in the system for something to happen.
I wasn't the only pilot there, there was a dozen or so other pilots who visited f Sharhelund III and nothing happened. Pilots where getting increasingly frustrated and out of character. In the end most gave up and went on their way including me. This is not the first none-event I've tried to partake in but it will probably be the last.

The News item you linked to is used to kickstart a series of events. Unlike news that covers an event, this starts an arc.
If you read it more closely you will see that there has also been no request for antibiotics, only for help in the investigation of the crash. And that will be an event.

Edited by: Ixion on 10/02/2006 20:18:56 Yeah, I spent over 2 hours waiting around for "something" to happen in Sharhelund last night, and another 2 the night before. A rare happening, a news item actually alluded to an event. I dragged myself up there looking for a way to become involved, but it seems to be "hurry up and wait". What event-specific channel are you talking about? I know there is an "event" chan, is there supposed to be one for each event?
A call for help was put out, many responded, then we were summarily ignored. Is this what I made a 40-jump round trip for? How come nobody knows what is going on? Do I have to spend days and days doing nothing but waiting just to miss the event window when I finally fall asleep? Is this the best ISD can come up with?
How about an ISD member in the system giving hints, or a temporary COSMOS-like agent dispensing missions for the story arc? A suspicious ship in the area we need to track down? A shipment of medical supplies we need to deliver? Anything?

Really, that's my problem with the whole thing. There're news announcements -- but god knows if responding or investigating them is ever worth it. In-game, there's never any real sign that an event's going on, unless you happen to see something in purple or blue in local. The events channel is perpetually dead. The only events I really ever hear of are major ones in 0.0 and such that small players can't even think of participating in.

We need more arcs started ...
Jove rogue general with fleet hiding a whole fleet, including a titan. Jove ambassador - Why did the teleport chamber blow up? Amarr Emperor murdered and now -after 100+ years of being hunted down- the Tetrimon cult suddenly is legal again and has thousands or even millions of followers in the open and legal again? Gallente elections. Who needs a political leader anyway. Minmatar-Thukker-Angel standing change royal screwup story. Fly missions for Thukkers and reach kos status in regions where Thukkers have most stations and angents? Cure for Vitoc. Minmatar main arc is totally missing. ... And many more have been started and the events never have been continued past the starter or were abandoned half way through.
Oh, and the promised faction adjustment for partaking in a mini or bigger event never happened and pilots often had to fight for their rewards after an event was finished. --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. Edited by: Delagris on 14/02/2006 08:37:37 Hmmm i was involved in an event 2 days ago in pator .A gm was asking for an escort to bek and would give 1.5 million to anyone who helped her so 6-7 of us in local ganged with her and she told us that she was being threatened by some guys in bek and that they were going to blow her up.We asked her what she was hauling and she said reports so we said we would help her .We sent scouts ahead and heard that 4-5 guys were camping the bek gate now we presumed these were either more gm's roleplaing or npc rats .We jumped in, about 7 of us and straight away they attacked the gm that ganged us, we asked her could we attack them because we had then realised that the were real players To cut a long story short i was locked by 3 guys a zealot, typhoon and something else i think. The gm warped away to a station as did some others i got scrambled and called for assistance in gang chat they came but were not allowed to help me needless to say i got wtfbbqpwned and the guy in the typhoon got concorded i think .i lost a tempest , 6 x 1400 scouts and full t2 gear in an event that must have been organised by Walt Disney or sumthing cos it sucked-big time. we convoed the guys who killed me after and they were as confused as us .They thought we were gms. they had been ganged by another gm saying that a drug courier and her gang(US!!!) were coming thru and that they were to destroy them ffs she was carrying drugs the funker. LOL events my fuking ass!! /me is well ****ed

EVENT's are always at the participants risk and obey the standard games rules, only fly what you can afford to loose in any situation. The ONLY people who operate outside normal strictures are EVENT actors who often (though not always) can be shot by all players even in high sec with no CONCORD intervention. Generally all the EVENT actors will be in the same corp(s), and speak in teal coloured text making identification easy.
Also, remember . . . EVENT characters . . . can LIE!
What better way to get a drugs shipment through than to con some nieve pod pilots to protect her with some sob story about moving reports. Did you think to scan the ship to make sure they were on the up and up? And what better way to deal with a drug runner than law enforcement hiring pod pilots to help out.
Storys have a general thread, but its the players who decide what is going to happen. A simple alternative was that you could have scanned the ship to check if there was indeed reports on board, seen it was drugs and blown up the drug runner as a nasty person and the EVENT took a whole different scope.

I've seen several of them start in the Empire Channel. If you hang out there, there is good chance you'll see event.

To match your example with an answer....
That sort of event can and will happen at any time, the event actors (who are player volunteers btw) will spring these things on the unsuspecting public so its very much a case of being in the right place at the right time.
Another way that events can start is when the event teams pitch an event at a target group, for example the Blood Raider attack on Mabnen as part of the vitoc cure storyline used players from the Blood Inquisition (roleplayers who play the part of blood raider loyalists) to move shipments of the weaponised Insorum aerosol into position for the attack.
I've actually been convo'ed by an actor who was playing the role of a Thukker Tribe trader about something, unfortunately I was afk at the time so never did find out what it was about. :/
If you're interested in the story side of EVE then the best thing you can do is join up with or even start a roleplay themed corp/alliance and persue your interests. Lets say you're interested in the Amarr, there's quite a few groups taking different slants on Empire roles:
Defending the Amarr religion - PIE (corp - Amarr only) Amarr Navy freelancer? - 1PG (corp - Amarr only) Expand the empire - CVA (alliance - all races) Ammatar (thats a minmatar born in the empire to the Ammatar tribe)- Ok I forget the name but I've seen a new corp doing this lately and you get the idea!
That's four options there for a single race. Being in a group like these can really up your chances of seeing something a bit different as like i said sometimes rp groups are approached with events suited (hopefully) to their RP angle. Not to mention the fact that they run their own
