i would first like to say yay wd to ccp and the gms to starting this post people in eve were becoming very dispondent about the isk sellers aka mm,s and farmers But i would also like to add that yes this is cheating and we all know it and we know they are trying fairly hard to get it stopped and we do realise that this is a very slow process and no offense to the other players in eve as criticism in any shape or form is always helpfull what we as eve players need to do is instead of complaining is to try and help ccp & gms in away to keep isk in the game so no outside selling is possible (i:e a bank in game that allows you to draw a loan out whether it is for a single char or a corp according to skills and time in game. and then you as a corp could pay it back like corp tax is payed through bountys etc) as i said just ideas. And yes i do no i have done my fair share of moaning complaining but it really hasnt gotten me anywhere except for a major headache and a numb feeling everytime i log on2 eve so i think at this point knowing this thread is now being watched by the gr8 gods of eve themselves helpfull ideas is the way to go even if the gms/ccp start up a corp that is hell bent on making life for these people hard untill there investigations are through im up for it hell it will make a change from being a miner i would like to be part of the belt police or wotever they wanna call it

Not really since all the money goes to the company.
Think of it this way, it is a way for a player to be able to play the game if they don't own a credit card, cannot afford to pay the fee, have an evil spouse who would kill them for wasting money ona game, etc.
e-baying money is different in that the money is going to other people/companies and is not supporting the playerbase in any way.

352 auctions under the search "eve online"
Yup, I'd say the "war on cheats" is going real well...
A lot of them use screenshot clips, why aren't eve's graphics copywrited so you could at the very least get those auctions pulled for copyright violations?
On a side note I saw this in the dev blog
"Where's the fun in obtaining your goals through normal gameplay, only to have them wiped out by someone who bought his advantage on Ebay?"
My comment is, Where's the fun in obtaining your goals through normal gameplay, only to have them wiped out by someone who lucked out in the T2 lottery?
Seems to me Ebay buying is nothing more then the great equalizer for the damage CCP's stupidly insane T2 lottery has already caused.

It struck me as odd how the blog talked about theunfair advantage buying isk gives peeople and yet ccp endorses time card selling.

I'm not seeing the difference.
The difference is - (1) ISK for money is transer of money between 2 "players" (yea, rite). (2)Trading GTC for ISK does not transfer any real money between players.

You can join the tech 2 lottery on the same terms as everyone else. The real-life lottery has already been decided, keep it out of the game.
Buying ISK on eBay for real money is the great equaliser?
This is equality in a game - people who play better are rewarded, no player may gain an advantage from their real-life financial resources, or employ others to play for them. Sounds equal to me.

Oh the difference is quite simple.
In one situation you're buying isk off other players.
In the other situation you're buying isk off CCP.
You see.. They both equally ruin the game, but that doesn't matter! The only thing that matters is that CCP makes more money and thanks to these rules, they can!
Hooray for CCP! \o/

good job ccp.
everytime I spot an MM op I let the powers that be know and every time they say thanks.
its nice to play a game where 1) you can kill the cheaters yourself 2) the devs actually take an active interest in the game (which to me means they are actually working for their money. Played DAOC for 3 years saw a GM once) 3) They let us know what they are doing with regular updates. ESPECIALLY with regard to illegal activity which just ruins the game for others
I have never seen such good customer service online as that which CCP povides for us.
@ All those people who appear to be unsatisfied still. Stopping trial accounts from using certain ship types with RMR means that eventually the MM's will have to setup proper accounts to continue their activities and that means they will be more easily traced. And that means that eventually this particular illegal activity will soon become a very minor problem. It is merely a matter of time.
At least CCP are keeping us updated. You can help them by reporting illegal activity whenever you encounter it. And in that way we can all throw out the ebil people together and then go mine veldspar, in a circle, holding hands singing 'We shall overcome'.
Could I have a T2 Ibis O'Doom BPO please?

Nice job!

Your entire blog is nonsense. Im orry arkanon, but seriously.."buying isk with real world dollars puts other players at a disadvantage", etc????
Hello game time cards. So youre really saying its ok for players to have an isk advantage over others, as long as they go through ccp to buy and sell isk.
Game time cards need to stop being sold for real money. I find this topic completly stupid and contradicting its self completly.

Also, If yall focused as much time as this wonderful post about known rules, you could of banned a few macro miners that are doing all this "omg oh so bad isk selling".
Or fixing the massive amount of lag that exists in 0.0 space whenever more then 15 ships encounter eachother.
Oh, how about reimbursing peoples ships and fittings that get lost to the massive amount of lag that doesnt exist.

There would be no isk sellers, farmers, macro miners if there were no isk buyers. Ban or discourage all buyers from cheating and macro suckers will go away. People who buy isk are the real problem.

Edited by: Vargrh on 28/01/2006 16:41:55 OK isk sales aside, I can see a reason to stop macro's etc...
Why does CCP object to a person selling their account per se. I mean if a player with 2 years of in game time sells his account to a friend for the same cost as 24 months x subscription per month = he gets his money back hes invested when its time to move on, hes recruited another player to eve and CCP start to get the sub from the person buying the account. No one looses.
I cant see how that undermines the game universe in any way shape or form.
CCP should get on the ball and offer a mechanism for selling a character/account so its logged as going over to a new player in real life, where they might charge a small admin fee as per character transfer for isk, and where they can set the price as month in game/skills point averages per month x montly sub.

The problem you are looking at there is the fact that you have people that work etc so dont have time for mining to make isks yet want to be able to afford battleships for pvp.... so they buy some isk and see it as paying another player for the time taken to generate it....
Perhaps one way around this could be for CCP to offer isk sales via the eve-online web site. Why doesnt CCP sell isk for say $100 per billion, undercutting the ebay auctions and then donate the money to charity it makes from this? Perhaps offering it to aid charities in the countries where scum companies are paying farmers $1 an hour and making $9 for themselves etc from the efforts of the mineral farmers labour.

IGE and other major seller's MO is to get major corps/alliances to raid the piggy bank.
And Vargrh, CCP selling ISK is inflationary. Character -> Character ISK transfers are not.

any correlation between the volume of their sale vs amount of farmers banned...?

CCP directly selling isk would be very detrimental to EVE. It would cause severe inflation. However, online auction houses that sell player earned ISK is not nearly so harmful. Since the player has to actually make the isk to sell, there is still x amount of work being put into making y amount of isk. All that happens is the isk changes owners.

Most has already been said. But I have a question about the way CCP is attacking eBaying ingame items. I'm wondering what is wrong with this:
- CCP going on eBay, buying small lots from succesful sellers like herbmummy. - The alt for CCP logging in, making the isk transfer ingame - Some GM/sysadmin/whatever for CCP checking the IP and login for the character that made the transfer, live. - CCP checking this against logs of IPs/logins to find if there's more accounts associated with this person.
Unless the eBayer is payed with gametime cards and is connecting through a proxy, this information alone should be enough to find the perp. If this person is covering his tracks even better, it's clear that his intent is not innocent at all. He can't claim "he didn't know it was illegal".
And I say illegal, since this person is effectively stealing from CCP. The EULA clearly states that everything in the game, even the time you invest in it, is owned by CCP. You have no rights to it and selling it to a third party constitutes theft or at the very least fraud. (Anybody want to buy my neighbour's Ferrari on eBay?)
I realize that going after eBayers like this is very time-consuming and possibly expensive (lawyers and all). But by making a few examples an publicly defaming them, CCP might well scare off a large part of the kids that think they can get away with cheating and stealing. All that will be left is people that seriously abuse the game for theft from players and CCP alike. Hunting them down will be more worthwhile, if you don't have to waste your time on smalltime crooks.
Just one more thing: The only thing really protecting people selling ingame items for real money is gametime cards. It's these that allow a person to be perfectly anonymous in the game. Once linked to a credit card, bank account or similar method of payment, it should be a lot easier to track down cheaters and abusers. Wouldn't EVE be better off if it disallowed gametime cards or if it made gametime cards traceable to their owners? If the EULA would extend to such gametime cards, people would be discouraged to sell them, since they might end up in the hands of the people we're after here.
Greetings, Grismar.

On the other hand, having the GMs take an official, public stance will completely take the air out of the arguments from posters who say that "players should be allowed to play the game the way they want to, since it doesn't hurt anybody".

Grismar, this has been explained about 6 times allready, but: Ebay do NOT tolerate that. Transactions MUST be in good faith, and they WILL sue. If you want auctions removed, then you must us the IP Verified Rights program. Period.
And it would likely also start a lawsuit over the value of your time in Eve, which is FAR from a certain victory for CCP. And CCP do *not* want to lose that law suit and set that precident. Better to leave it fuzzy.

I've petitionned 2 accounts that were sold on ebay with 7 billions isk on them. Answer from ccp was "errr sry but we can't do anything about that !" It would have been easy to proove that they were sold on ebay. I mean, I can still proove it at ease. But no, nothing from ccp.
So those accounts with characters Opticon and Melian are still happily playing around (I think one of the character got sold for isk on sell forums) and ccp still hasn't done anything against that and won't anyway.
Which brings me to my point: ccp does nothing agaisnt people buying accounts and ingame currency on ebay. and this whatever this dev blog may say.

What would happen if they banned accounts being sold on ebay like you're suggesting? Ebayers would get banned, right? Ok, what happens if I sign up a new ebay account and sell my character "Elenia Kheynes"? YOU would be banned. It's easier if you get a screenshot of skills and stuff from a sale on the sell board. That's why they investigate this stuff before taking action. Better that a few careful guilty people slip through the net than innocent people be banned.
