Hey everyone! The EVE Community Team is launching a new initiative designed to help new players get into EVE and learn how the world works faster and more efficiently. We're calling this initiative the Avengers Initiative. Wait, no. I mean it's the New Player Training Sessions!
Read all about it in this dev blog. EVE Online/DUST 514 Community Representative GÇ+ EVE Illuminati GÇ+ Fiction Adept

Expanding this to include player instructors is something we're looking to do eventually. EVE Online/DUST 514 Community Representative GÇ+ EVE Illuminati GÇ+ Fiction Adept

We will be doing this by advertising them in-game via rookie corporations and the Rookie Help Chat. EVE Online/DUST 514 Community Representative GÇ+ EVE Illuminati GÇ+ Fiction Adept

Zloco Crendraven wrote:My firs few days in EVE a joined such a session of an Alliance named Rookie Empire. It was hell of a blast, learned lot of things. Being 3 days old i ventured with them into 0.0. The thrill i had, omg was fantastic. I succeeded to get back n highsec by myself without dieing, following some basic tips they gave me about warping to planets near gates first, scanning etc. Was so proud of myself. It was the longest hour of my life and the longest 20 jumps ever :DDD
That sort of experience is exactly the type we are aiming for with these sessions, particularly the organized fleets! EVE Online/DUST 514 Community Representative GÇ+ EVE Illuminati GÇ+ Fiction Adept

Probably depends on if you're just cracking jokes or trying to ruin the event :). And a bunch of other factors. CCP Guard | EVE Community Developer |-á@ccp_guard |

If people are being disruptive in the chat channels, we will kick them from the channel. Other disruptive behavior will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis and it's really hard to give a blanket response that will cover all possibilities. In almost all cases we will warn players in-game that they are being disruptive and give them a chance to stop before we move on to having the GMs get involved. A good US TZ Session would be great. Could someone set something like this up too? (Also, is there a way to search for corps with Timezones that fit Eastern US... I have to search twice: once only till 8pm my time and second 00:00 -> till I fall asleep time) While I am an "Experienced" (as in I've been blown up more times than I care to recall) tackler. There's still things that I learn every day, especially after returning from a break.
We definitely want to do this. Right now we don't have the resources to do so, but if they prove to be popular we'll find a way to do things at a time that's better for our very large US following. This is part of the reason we are recording all the sessions and will be holding all our organized activities on weekends. Katrina Oniseki wrote:Sounds good to me! Will these events eventually graduate into real lowsec roams or life fire exercises?
May I suggest the use of spawning rookie-pirate NPCs as demonstration targets for new players to test their mettle?
CCP and GMs have a lot more power to manipulate the game world to demonstrate various aspects and situations than player instructors do. :)
Certainly! Our PVP Fleet on the 16th will be a live fire exercise with roaming. Can't reveal where we're going, but traveling into low sec or 0.0 is certainly a possibility.
And yes, part of the reason we're running these is because our devhax mean we can do things like spawn NPCs when needed. EVE Online/DUST 514 Community Representative GÇ+ EVE Illuminati GÇ+ Fiction Adept

Part of what we are looking to do is to invite guests from the likes of EVE Uni, Agony, RvB and others to come along and be guest lecturers and instructors. Down the line we would like to see this seminar program incorporated into a completely player driven venture. That is the ideal goal.

Directing players toward EVE Uni, Agony Empire, Brave Newbies, RvB and other corporations is what will be covered in our "Progression" sessions at the end of each track. We are going to go with very very basic instruction, stuff that I believe would be considered entry level even for people like EVE Uni. Additionally, we want players to get exposed to social activity when many of them would not be without this initiative. We love the rookie-friendly organizations and we certainly will be supporting them with this and other things in the future.
As for the PvE vs PvP, we will be covering PvE-related activities in more depth with future tracks. I believe our next one will likely cover Exploration and how to do it. We also have plans to cover topics such as Resource Gathering, Manufacturing, and Trading. We know a lot of people don't want to PvP, never will PvP, and nothing we do will get them to willingly PvP. But they might be drawn into the idea of building their own manufacturing empire, so we want to encourage and teach that as well.
As for training rookies being a full time job, well. Yes. I am an employee of CCP and this will be pretty much a full time job for myself and the others involved in the initiative. EVE Online/DUST 514 Community Representative GÇ+ EVE Illuminati GÇ+ Fiction Adept
