i have already seen that, but i was figuring there would be a main set of ships that would be good for diff setups or playstyles

It would be very helpful if you posted what ship types you'd like the fly, even big small or medium would help tremendously. What role do you seek to fill?

I'd like to ask. What's the cheapest way for a corporation to counter a battleship?

Edited by: Cynet K405 on 25/01/2006 18:35:31 Can you please just take a look at the sticky Ship Setups? .. oh well i'll link you http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=138274
You will get a rough idea what each ship with their weapons type and the roles they play, if you really put an effort to read.

see that is just the thing, i am lost, i dont know what roles there are to fill... I mean i would like to be viable in all roles eventually when it comes to pvp, but the information on PvP roles / ships is slim

I am a newbie too myself, most of the PvP related info i found out are from the reading the threads on Ship Setups, there's are bound to be arguments / debates in each thread :D there's where i got the understanding of "its" role the ship plays.
It's just too much information for anyone here to answer what you are asking. Perhap you should take a look at this thread for Basic Races/Weapons http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=99571 and this file for a General Guide to PvP by attezzohttp://attrezzo.ownmail.net/eve-PvP_1.0.rtf
Cheers :D

I believe what the op fails to understand is there are no real roles (or better said class' like in other MMOGs), sure you can fit a scorp for jamming only, but u can as well fit a heavy shield tank and play it as bait.
When it comes to PvP the only limitation is your imagination.

Edited by: DunNa on 25/01/2006 19:29:35 In pvp you basicly have 3 types of ship setups (this is narrowing it down)...
First you have your Damage dealers (think like a mage from a normal MMO), they fly around and make things go boom.
Then you have your support ships, normally this will be jamming and such since "healer" type ships just really arn't that viable for pvp atm.
Then you have tacklers, these are the guys that make sure people don't run off or get to carried away. They hold ship down so the Damage guys can blow them up.
Then to throw a wrench all in this idea you also have to consider what kind of pvp your wanting to know about... Camping, Fleet, Gank, Belt Piracy, some othere niche of pvp. Which each has abit different idea of what those roles should fill and what they should target first and so on.
Those are your main roles for pvp in EVE right now. Some ships are rather limited in they can fill (like an interceptor is basicly just a tackler), while other ships can have some options or even go for a hybrid of sorts being somewhere between tackle and support.

Thanks this is the type of answer I was looking for partly, but you are in the right direction. I guess I will have to figure out what setups are good for what "class types" I see myself probably trying to fill all roles in time, depending on the situation , but probably trying to find a defensive hybrid or something.

Edited by: Germain on 26/01/2006 16:11:59 personnaly i think the best PvP setup atm would be. one person flying the raven and one flying the scorp and another flying a covert ops to scout gates ect.
now for the differant races
caldari. raven good dmg and good mission runner scorp ok dmg and very good EW covert ops good for what i have said
gal.
mega - range dmg dealer (name of drone Bship here) - good for tackling with drones and killing pll a gal covert ops
min. tempest - long range close range killer phoon - could be good at stopping pll from runing but not used one vigal - covert ops
personnaly if you want cheap fun and PvP then kestrals and rifters seem to be the way forward.
but if you are that noob then you realy really need to get a good corp to help you out. this way you will be able to do missions till your skill build and then be able to run a specialist role for you corp in PvP battles. ask me in game for help as well i can try. NESW is my corp convo me in game tonight.
