According to there percentage marks:

How can they describe Eve as a "Very ordinary games"
Discraceful... Now, how long do I have to wait! - "We have big plans. Secret plans, but BIG!"

Thats your copyright law. Ok... Just for those who do not know. So, any single user can post 25% of any material. There.
In all likelyhood meaning 25% of said artikel, not 25% of the magazine. As a publisher/editor I'd be pretty 'angry' if 25% of my magazine was put online under pretence of it being right to do so due to it only being 25% of said magazine.
Copying for personal use is allowed, not to copy and distribute (which putting it online is). _

Edited by: Nuala Reece on 26/01/2006 13:54:39 I thought it was 10%, but maybe I 'm wrong. Either way the law allows for a percentage of the whole body of work or one article, whichever is the least. It's not restricted to copying for personal use but for 'fair use' as has been said. The purpose of allowing copying for 'fair use' is to allow for the free flow of information, which is precisely about sharing articles with other people by copying and distribution (otherwise every school, college and university in the country would be in big trouble over copyright infringement).
Technically this does seem to be intended for academic free flow of information, but I'm not aware of the law having been updated yet to account for the influence of the internet.
Incidentally - if it's such an issue for these boards, has anyone considered emailing PC Gamer, and asking if it's okay to post one link to scans of that article, in accordance with the law? They might say no, but they might also consider it free advertising.

Ah, forget what I just said - just done a bit of research to find out what the law actually says :)
It's 5% or one article, under the principle of 'fair dealing'. This term isn't clearly defined in the law but does relate to a single copy. It's considered that distribution doesn't fall under 'fair dealing' if it's reasonable to assume that this would lead to the creation of multiple copies. You need to have a special copyright licence to make multiple copies.
Also, this only relates to photocopying. Electronic copying is not considered to be the same and so it is "not legal to scan text or images from a paper original into a computer ... without the express permission of the copyright holder". UK Copyright
So, yeah, basically - Bah! Humbug! But someone could still ask for permission from PC Gamer. If you don't ask you don't get.

Well one of their journalists - JIM ROSSIGNOL - is apparently a complete EVE ***** (no offence Jim if ur reading this)
Anyway maybe Jim could scan the pages in for us and then we could find out what his EVE character is called so we can all donate him ISK for promoting the game so much - or pod him because he is an ebil journalist

Strangely, despite the fact that the article describes lag so bad it crashed the servers, it was this article that brought me to EVE!

If you look at this article carefully you may notice the following headline...
"Red Moon at Night, ISK Farmers Delight"
Now, god forbid we go thru this scenario again but its quite funny that this headline appears, a great rating of 88% is achieved and not a single mention of what the headline actually means...
This is not a flame, a rant , a rave a whatever...merely an OBSERVATION...
It would be interesting to find out why the author of the article actually used this headline yet chose not to explain its meaning...
Perhaps a CCP intervention???

Actually, I noticed that as well. Given that the reviewer defintiely plays the game and almost CERTAINLY reads this forum, WTF are you going on about, matey?

Can someone who has got it draw a picture of the article in coloured pencil, including all the letters, then take a photo of it and post that? Surely that would get round the copyright thingymajig?

There is an old English saying
'Red sky at night - farmers delight'
I assume that the headline was a play on that...
