I am sure this question must have been asked many times before on this forum but my searches have proved unsuccessful so I will ask here.
I have just purchased a ship that is one jump away from me, how do I go about picking it up? I could use one of my ships but then that would have to be left behind as I can only fly one ship at once. I know that the new ship can be re-packaged to make it smaller (it's a Retriever btw) , but would it fit in my Vexor?
Another option I thought of is to pod my way there, but, of course, there are safety considerations to take into account.
What do other people do on these occasions? |

Undock in your pod, make the one system jump, fetch ship Or Undock in your pod, dock at another station in system to get a free rookie ship, fly that to the location the new ship is at and then destroy the rookie ship once you're there.
A packaged retriever is 3750m3. A vexor's (base) cargo hold is 480m3 |

Fly a rookie ship or shuttle and sell it when you get to your new ship. Podding over there is *ok*, but any ship is better.

I hear about people who spend hours making sure all assets are positioned in exactly the right place, but I think theyre in the minority. Just get used to having assets all over the galaxy.
This has it's plus points too, often I'll get blown up, or urgently need a hauler, and there's one a jump or two away that I dumped two years ago. |

Shuttle. Or pod, but shuttles are faster, and are much safer to fly on AFK autopilot. But if its just one jump, then it's not ardorous to manually fly to the station in the pod, enter the ship, and fly back on autopilot. |

It bothers me to have a cluttered Assets window. Not a lot. I some times go years between cleanups, but it does feel good to consolidate all my crap in no more than 6-8 stations, or at the most 10. Mind you, a lot of that is AFK flying, and it does help to have a Freighter. |

I normally just use courier contracts to move everything so it's not too cluttered, it's cheap and effortless. |

If I logged in and saw less than, say thirty stations? in my Assets list I would be panicing... The patch which changed the slider to be proportional to the ratio of visible to invisible window contents made things rather tricky as it's quite difficult to get the mouse on in some of mine. Then again I do move around the cluster quite a bit so I have "bases" all over the place for different purposes. |

Shuttles, sold (probably at a loss) where the new ship is. Those can be quite cheap, 20K to 50K depending on the region.
Or an Industrial ship, most of the "general hauling" ones have more than enough cargo space to fit a repackaged barge.
If you're a miner, you really should look into industrial ships, those need "Racial" Frigate to 3 and "Racial" Industrial to 1 at the minimum to be flown, and they offer huge benefits to a mining character. My skills : Kery Nysell, Jestra Nysell, Kotoko Nysell, Kotone Nysell |

Yeah I use it 95%+ of the time.
Sucks when I need to go somewhere I don't have any assets - forces me to type and stuff. If you want to get your soul to heaven, trust in me. Now don't judge or question. You are broken now, but faith can heal you. Just do everything I tell you to do. (Opiate - Tool) |

And I thought I was the only person who did that. (Well that and asking for links in chat)
Its one the reason that I try and keep the number to stations to a minimum (failing pretty hard) as scrolling through a very long list is a pain.

auto-linking is super fast... type first 3 characters of system/item etc, r-click... |

If only they taught you this stuff in the Noob missions (maybe they are now) , I went for like 2 years before someone told me about that way of doing things and I am sort of in a habit now.

The problem with this is sometimes when you're trying to think of something from memory that you don't often recall, you either can't recall the name, or you spell it wrong cause you've remembered it differently (happens to me alot with weird system names ) |

Mocking is not so much of my thing but...
Hopefully the ship is located in a station with clone facilities. Grind up your standings high enough, train Infomorph Psychology. Install a jump clone at the station your ship is located. Fly back to your home station and jump clone, pick up your ship...
But seriously just flying around in a pod especially in high sec is not a problem at all. Even in the unlikely event of being podded, as long as your clone matches your skill points...so what.
